B at Seneca Golf Course

I have absolutely refused to play here for many years, because of deplorable conditions, but couldn't resist $10 HotDeal this morning. The revamped Front A nine is on its way to being awesome, still very high rough and waste areas away from fairways, but that's what you get for straying tee shots off line. Greens are VERY firm, but they were rolling beautifully. You must adjust to firmness on short game shots. Lots of work going on so if that bothers you stay away, but all evidence is that the Metroparks are dedicated to restoring this once nice track back to glory. Front side of A course is worth the time/effort to check out. We played it twice so I'm assuming the other open holes that have not been restored/updated are not in the same class as Front A.

Course needs lots of work. Hope the progress continues

Every hole, at least one player in our league will be searching for a ball in the waist high jungle grass.

Tiny greens, many with waist high grass surrounding 5-10 yards off the green. A shot that might leave a long putt on most courses often leads to wasted time hunting for a ball, and too often a lost ball penalty, even when everyone saw where it went over.

Really no need for this, it just sucks the fun out of playing here, and slows pace of play to a grinding halt. 2 hours and 50 minutes to 3 hours to play 9 holes, 3 weeks in a row.

Management expresses interest in addressing the concerns-

So far, it's mid July and I see no inkling that will happen.

Should I see major changes for the positive, I will repost. Don't hold your breath.

Think the Metroparks seem to be doing a good job in bringing Seneca back up to respectability.

However, I totally disagree with having U.S. Open type rough on this golf course...the vast majority of people who play here (including myself) are either hacks or duffers. Why spoil the beautiful scenery with 3 to 4 foot high grass/weeds that forces us to 1) look for our golf ball and 2) potentially slow down other players in doing so??? Keep it short sweet and simple...it is challenging enough as it is.

Also did not care for the changing of the nines on this course. The old frontside (which is now the backside) is a nice warmup for the more severe challenges of the backside (which is now the frontside).

Fairways and tees have been improved but still require a good deal of work.

Practice fairway needs much better definition and an adequate amount of space...hopefully, this is already in your plans.

I have played all 4 nines at this course over the last 25+ years. The city of Cleveland used to own this former PGA Tour quality track, but the city let it become a ratty, horrific mess. However, it was purchased by our MetroParks system about 5-6 years ago and they have been working very hard every year to return this once proud course to it's original glory! Arnold Palmer, Charlie Sifford and many of the older golfers used to play this course and I'm happy to see the MetroParks providing and improving a great venue. They have kids programs, many sets of tees and will be building a beautiful practice area in the next several years. They have their blueprints for the entire renovation in the clubhouse. Good course now, but will be a great course shortly! P.S. Although my username is "Manikiki" (another beautiful MetroParks owned course, where I posted my best score ever), I am not and have never been employed or a paid spokesman for the MetroParks. LOL :-)

First bummer, on-line rate was $10. As soon as I tried to book the rate jumped to $14. ONLY REASON I played here was to hang out with a friend that doesn't have confidence in his game and knows he struggles. The course was sold from city to metro-parks and has been undergoing rehab for at least 3 years. Ground is rock hard and rutty. Greens are small but the only thing decent at this course. I would never pay full price here.

The course has gotten progressively nicer and more challenging since the Metroparks have taken over. The long grass similar to a Links style has made it so that the course has to be respected. Players can no longer wail away and have a shot from out of bounds. Sand traps still a bit hard, but much better. The greens are better and faster now than they've ever been in memory.(going back 25 years for me) It is finally a "real" course. Cudos to the Metroparks

The golf course is very rough (and thats the fairways). Potholes in the fairway, rough was very high, greens slow and the high grass, which if you miss the rough you are in, is impossible to get out of.

Not as much of a cow pasture as it used to be but there many better courses for the same price.

We played the newly reopened, ( and lengthened) A course...The grass they planted for roughs is questionable, Very tall. The yardages were unsuitable for women....The white tees might be OK for a senior , but they are on the same box as the gold, which I played... Black are too deep for most amateurs...ok so white 5500 , too deep for women . Gold 6200? , Which was ok , and black 6800... Rough on the back side has definitely needed cutting more regularly ..... Clumps everywhere, 4 inches deep average? Absurd! Not to .mention the deep 1 foot tall grasses they let grow in a few years ago. All in all toughest course I ever play....

The 'B' course is best suited for a nature walk.

I haven't played this course for 18 years I would guess. Only played it that one time. So it was like new to me. Nice layout. Condition was a little sticky. When it dries out, I think it will be a bit more playable. Looking forward to trying it again as well as the new 9 they are finishing this month.

This course being a one of metro parks own has the typical features of metro park courses; the only problem was rough ride on the fair ways. The whole course looks it's under construction.

Took my son out here. Loved the junior tees on the B course. The A course looks like they've put some work into it. I'll come back to play again.

Not crowded at all, fairways in rough (damaged) conditions but playable. Greens were slick & in great shape, but fair & played well.

Maybe the worst course in Cleveland right now..there is not one single good thing I can say about this course.

If you don't hit every single fairway your ball will be gone. It is ridiculous. I will never ever play here again. Lost a ball on almost every hole and I am a 14 handicap.

I haven't played Seneca in 3 years. I was expecting a little more change since the metro parks took over but it looks like the process is taking longer then I thought.
The condition of the greens is about the only notable difference. Metro parks keeps raising the price but the conditions are getting worse.

The course is under renovation, the fairways are hard but it hasn't rained in 2 weeks. tee boxes were hard to put tees in and greens are watered only.
We did see a beverage cart on the course but only twice and it was near the 9th and 18th holes so we didn't get anything.
I have great expectations now metro parks purchased the course but give them a few years.

course has four mines but they have a great deal under repair. Greens are very small and slow. The course team did not do a good job of managing the pace of play even when called out.

Great layout but the greens are slow. This makes for a very long round and constant frustration. We found the course on golf now and they're making headway to be better. The staff was great, food at the turn good, but the greens were a big let down.
