Pickaway Country Club

About
Pickaway Country Club is known for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Jack Kidwell, a local architect who designed this course and many others in Central Ohio, utilized his familiarity with the terrain but still kept each golf course distinct. Pickaway has an interesting layout that will test your shot-making abilities and strategy with narrow fairways lined with trees and small, fast greens that are difficult to read. Water hazards come into play on five holes and there are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout. There is one particularly difficult par-5 hole that requires a 250-yard drive over a meandering creek. Although the golf course offers a fair amount of challenges, they are balanced by a number of wide-open fairways that have ample space.

I highly recommend playing this course
I originally called and asked about the all-you-can-golf special for Fridays. Based on the response over the phone I felt that the person taking the call was not a fan of that special. So, I proceeded to book an 18-hole tee time on GolfNow instead. Got a hot deal (and rounded up to the nearest dollar for the donation) and it was $24.
The golf course was very well-maintained. Some bigger greens- and all in great shape. The bunkers were nice and soft…I had just golfed at a course a few days prior and their bunkers were hard (due to the lack of work put into them).
The course was packed. My beer was put into a plastic bag with ice. With it being hot outside, it had completely melted by the end of the first 9 holes (so I went in at the turn and they gave me another bag of ice). I assume they were just out of coolers because of how busy they were. When that happens, wish that they (this includes all golf courses) would allow your own empty cooler and they fill it inside.
The bartenders/workers were very calm and friendly. I wasn’t held up too much while golfing with a couple of strangers- they didn’t play slow themselves. It definitely made sense for the course to send you out with others without a foursome because I would have just been waiting anyhow. It would have been very difficult to play through everybody. If the course is busy like that the entire day, you’d probably only get in 54 holes (63-72 holes if you are lucky). Allot at least 4 hours to play 18 holes. My round took just slightly more than 4 hours (which wasn’t bad at all though for the course being packed).
I highly recommend playing this course. I will definitely be back.
I only golfed three times last year (in scrambles). Monday and then Friday were my first two times golfing this year. I have worked at golf courses (not with maintenance on the course) in the past and use to golf at least once a week. Better than a bogey golfer. Shot an 88 here (16 over) playing the back tees. If I play it a few more times, would probably shoot closer to 80-82. If you can’t hit your tee shot fairly straight, I recommend you play the white tees. A few holes from the blue tees requires a drive to start off very straight, or you will hit the tree branches. A slight fade or draw is fine.
Excellent Pace of Plan on a Holiday
This was the second round of the day around 12:36. Pace of play on the 4th of July was roughly 4:15 which is honestly great. The only negative thing I have to say is the greens were very slow compared to other courses I have played over the last two years.
Great golf for the price!
Course was in great shape. Greens all ran well. Rough was actually penalizing in most places. Sand traps didn’t look great but I didn’t hit in any. Used a hot deal and got a great price.
Pickaway Country Club
Kind of sprinkled on & off for the first 4 holes. It was really crowded so the pace of play was a bit slow. I decided to get a rain check after the front nine. Good course though. Looking forward to getting back.
Pickaway county club
The course conditions were good, but the layout of the course was a mess. Also the greens were in good condition.
Way overbooked
12:30 tee time. The 11:45 group was still waiting to tee off. Not a single golf cart left to use. We were told to wait until someone gets off of the 18th hole to return their cart. This was the third time I’ve been here and I’ve yet to play the whole course due to either overbooking or ridiculously slow pace of play
Enjoyable round,
We enjoyed the play at Pickaway CC….The course is making many improvements. The pace of play was alittle slow but everyone was good with it. The staff is super. We had chicken salad sandwiches and they. We’re great. I would recommend spending a day on this course.
Ok course
Was an ok course.. nothing to write home about..for 30$ it was worth it.. but I have played better in that area...
Golfer 2.0
Golfer 2.0Rough was very high hard to find balls even when they’re just off the fairway.
Great shape
It’s hard to really enjoy this one due to the stacking of players but there is a fine line because operating revenue has to be generated. It would make more sense to have starters getting off first tee and not starting players until they reach first green and a ranger on the course monitoring. This is such a great course that needs more course monitoring, one of the best conditioned courses for sure.
Possibly underrated
First time playing the course, and I came away very impressed. Some of the reviews on golf now were not favorable, and as a result my friend and I were both skeptical. I thought the course was in very good condition. It is not long but is well protected by lush rough. If you keep it in the fairway, you will have a nice round. The greens were in very good condition, although at least in my opinion, they were slow. I would definitely play it again, and would recommend it.
Love the layout.
Already talking about going back. Hopefully next time it won’t be raining.
