Black Bear Golf Club
About
Black Bear Golf Club is part of the Crystal Springs Resort, which offers six other courses, though, it's hard to remember they're connected since they each offer a distinct character and look. Unlike Ballyowen and Crystal springs, two of the resort's most well known courses, Black Bear has more of a parkland layout. The course tumbles across rolling hills covered with trees, which come into play along the undulating fairways and greens. Water only comes into play on three holes but there are a whopping 65 bunkers coming into play. It's challenging but not frustrating. Both low and high handicappers will enjoy not only the golf course but also the beautiful scenery. Black Bear is one of the best values in the area and has garnered a strong local following.

Great course…….
…… but recent irrigation on the greens made every putt a complete adventure. Every putt including short ones all were very bumpy. Nice course and challenging.
Way too expensive
I really do love this course, in the past I have complained about the bunkers being rocks and dirt, they’ve gotten better but they still need work. Greens are really nice and the tee boxes are in good shape for the most part. However, it’s not worth the $120 to play there. Especially when you can play Great Gorge for about $75-80. Again I really like this course and all the Crystal Springs courses but $120-140 seems steep for this place
Extremely slow pace of play
The pace of play ruined the round, unfortunately. What was even more discouraging was the fact the rangers did not know how to improve the pace of play, even after speaking with us twice (as if we were the problem waiting on every tee box). It is very simple. You give one warning to the group(s) holding up play. If they don't improve after 2 holes you make them skip a hole (or 2). When playing premium prices, at a premium golf resort, you expect decent pace of play, or at the very least, for it to improve once the rangers recognize the issue. Very disappointing.
On top of that, there was no food available at the turn (10:30/11am). Pretty disappointing, again.
Carts seemed slow
Golf carts seemed slow and struggled to get around the course especially when a hill was involved which happens quite often.
Absurd price hike
Used to love coming up here to play several times a year. For whatever reason other than sheer greed, they went from $80-90 to $127. Absolutely disgusting. Its not a special course at all. Stop price gauging.
Black Bear
Challenging course.
*Carts are tired and slow. You would expect EV with GPS. Replacements needed.
*Many bunkers needed new sand. Too many stones mixed in with dirt and sand.
Blackbear at Crystal Springs
Very nice course, very nice atmosphere. Not over challenging. One issue was the greens. But the greens were extremely slow..
Nice course and staff
Played Black Bear this past week after the rain. Course remains in great shape as per usual. Greens are the best of any course around. Some newly renovated bunkers really stand out. Staff was very friendly and accommodating of my late group due to traffic. Starter gave a good rundown of the course prior to going out.
Worst staff ever
The type off staff they have working there should never be in a customer service position. No help at all
