Black Bear Golf Club
About
Black Bear Golf Club is part of the Crystal Springs Resort, which offers six other courses, though, it's hard to remember they're connected since they each offer a distinct character and look. Unlike Ballyowen and Crystal springs, two of the resort's most well known courses, Black Bear has more of a parkland layout. The course tumbles across rolling hills covered with trees, which come into play along the undulating fairways and greens. Water only comes into play on three holes but there are a whopping 65 bunkers coming into play. It's challenging but not frustrating. Both low and high handicappers will enjoy not only the golf course but also the beautiful scenery. Black Bear is one of the best values in the area and has garnered a strong local following.

Very nice course
Black Bear is about a 75% challenging golf course. It requires very good concentration to play. Despite that I like the course very much. The staff is terrific.
Awesome course, large price tag
Black Bear is a really fun, unique, challenging yet enjoyable course. The only issue I have is the pricing. I've been coming here for years and years, and I am getting priced out. At this point a typical weekend round is now $130-$150. Pure insanity. I love coming here when I can find a weekday hot deal, but you won't see me paying $140 ever.
carts/sand bunkers/range balls
course was good condition except for a number of sand bunkers that were filled with dirt and stones. some sand bunkers, however, were filled with new sand. carts were slow and in terrible condition. range balls were tired and bruised. for a "resort" course, more capital investment is needed to live up to its reputation.
Nice course
Hilly in spots so definitely recommend a golf cart!
Early Season golf
I’ve allows enjoyed BB. First started playing there 12 yrs ago. Like the course challenges & layout. This offered a few more. The greens were very rough having been aerated recently. To be expected at this time of the year. The sand traps are very rough & not playable. Hopefully they will get the attention needed to bring this course to the next level of quality golf for the money & enjoyment.
All said, it’s allow pleasant going back to where I started to map out my improvement.
Global warming ROCKS
All I can say is in years past we could never play an amazing course like Black Bear 🐻. Now December in NJ can be in the 50s. Seriously one of the best courses you will ever play, classy all the way..
Black Bear is a very nice course
The course is friendly and challenging for a good blend
The staff is friendly and accommodating.
awesome course
great course w good maintenance... but the sand traps are not good.. other than that excellent
Awesome day at Black Bear
Great course... great layout.. manicured fairways and greens... sand traps are like concrete, so avoid the sand... pace of play was great in our three some playing a 2pm start... finished 18 in 4 hrs exactly...got on a hot deal so price was under $50 w cart...
Course needs work
The course has not taken care of the bunkers in years, the golf carts have to be 10 years old and barely work, and I don’t believe they have Rangers to keep the slow golfers moving along
