Black Bear Golf Club

Played with a buddy who wasn't great but the other pair in our 4some and staff were helpful and engaging, a pair of bears ran across the 9th fairway which was a once in a lifetime experience I hope.

Decided to play mid morning after the forecast of rain was incorrect. Booked my tee time and playing within 1 hour. Upon my arrival my golf cart was waiting in front! The staff member said I was the last reservation for the day so he had it waiting. I was very impressed by this. The course from the white tees is friendly. Expect a few blind tee and second shots. Greens were firm and true. 3 greens are still recovering from aeration however not that bad. There seemed to be issues with the traps however due to a hard compact sand/small stone base. Not sure if this is intentional or a seasonal issue. Otherwise take advantage of this nice course and enjoy the day.

the course layout was dumb to much time in cart going to the next hole the greens were recently aerated and did not recover it rained which contributed to an overall bad experience will try again in the spring for a fresh outlook

Good course except that the greens had been recently aerated and the greens had been allowed to grow so most of the greens were very slow. Guess I should expect that this time of year.

Figured id give it another shot. And i was not disappointed. The greens made a great recovery, i'll be back this year. Overall great experience!!!

First I am not sure what all the complaining is about from recent reviews. I played on 10/17/13 and all but one of the greens was in great shape. The one slight problem one the green still was more than puttable. It did have some less than perfect spots NO. 14 for the record. With all that being said the course is in great shape. I was a single that Sunday and tee'd off 7:45 and played thru two groups and was done by 11:00.

Hadn't played course for a couple of months due to issues with the greens, but they were in excellent shape. Whatever problems there were have definitely been solved. Also it appeared like there was fresh sand in the traps. Make sure you try to play this course before the cold weather sets in.

The layout is great, good pricing through Golfnow, but the greens have significant issues....many burnt out, fungus or some kind of problem. If the greens were anything like the other great courses in Mountain Creek (Crystal Springs, Wild Turkey, Cascades, Great Gorge...)...it would be a very good course to play. We had the same issue last year with the greens and were hoping it was fixed this year, but it wasn't.

This course was plaqued this year with diseased greens, but Played last week and it was in the best condition. Teed off at 8:30 AM and was finished at 12:30. Greens were excellent. Staff is super and professional. You use all clubs in your bag at this course.

Great price for a weekend morning round. Pace of play was okay, 5 hour round.

Greens got disease and in bad shape. They used to have great greens but not this year. They should give advance notice to golfers so they know before they come and meet extremely bad greens.

Sent out twosomes instead of foursomes. Sending out foursomes would increase pace of play. Love the track!

Nice layout. Looks like 9+ greens have had major work or full replacements. Pace of play 5 hrs on the button due to outing before us. Will play again in off season. Too many other options for courses in the area to sit for hrs. Rangers were present just to say hello not to control pace of play.

The course layout was very nice, however, the conditions were horrendous. The greens were spotty at best. They were unputtable as they perhaps had a disease. They basically needed to be torn up and redone.
The fairways were spotty as well and needed to be fertilized. Several bare areas and inconsistent cutting heights.
This course has potential, but it needs some serious maintenance.

the pace of play was extremely slow, it took five hours to play 18 holes. The greens were in very bad condition. I assume they had aerated them recently but did a very poor job and the ball didn't role true.

First time playing course, Thought it was Awsome. Great Value, Great views and scenery and wild life. Even saw a bear. I'll be back soon

I have been playing this course for many years now and it is one of my favorite. This July is one of the worst conditions i have ever seen the greens and i thought without a doubt there will be no recovery untill next year. Everyone must have thought the same thing considering the course was empty and i played under 4 hours on greens that have made a marvelous recovery. two thumbs up to the greens keeper, management, and employees. Black bear looks tarrific

GolfNow had the greens fee at $ 45 but when we got to the course they had a Monday special greens fee $ 32--bargain! That unfortunetely was the best part of the course. This course is the poor sister to the rest of the Christal Springs courses. No sand in the bunkers, the greens are difficult to describe. It appeared they had been areated not too long ago but the holes combined with the many bare spots and the tuffs of slightly longer grass made the putts bounce from the bare spots off the tuffs of grass like a pinball. You could watch your ball zigzag as it tried to make its way to the hole. The layout is average and there are some scenic vistas.
