About
Ballyowen Golf Club is an homage to the great Scottish links courses, the place where golf originated. The course sprawls across 250 acres of rolling farmland that overlooks the Walkill River. The layout tumbles through valleys and hills, staying as true as possible to the natural contours of the land. Much like a traditional links golf course, the virtually treeless landscape is accented with craggy knolls. The challenging layout features lush green fairways that contrast beautifully with the pristine white sand bunkers and golden patches of rough that border the greensides. There are also water hazards that come into play on five holes. Ballyowen has earned the title of New Jersey's top public course and Golfweek has even ranked it as one of the top 50 courses in the country.

Right balance of challenging and playable.
Great layout, no tricked up holes, let’s you hit driver on pretty much all par 4s and 5s. Fast, true and manicured greens.
I enjoy playing this course.
A little pricey especially given the remote location. Hot deals make it a steal.
Phenomenal Track
This place is awesome. It was in great shape and layout is superb. A MUST PLAY!!!!!
Bad experience
What should have been a good round was turned sour due to pace of play. Took 3 hrs to play 11 holes and were 30 behind place after the 3rd hole even though we followed group in front of us closely. No rangers on this day to enforce pace of play. Some holes only had one group so not sure why pace was such an issue. Quit after 13 holes and were sitting at a total of 3hrs and 40 minutes. For the amount the round cost I was very disappointed that this was the case and created a bad experience that makes me never want to come back.
Rocky bunkers
Caution if you end up in a sand bunker. Most of the bunkers are rocky.
This is great course overall.
It was first time I played. Hard course but I would love to come back again.

One of the best courses I’ve played on! Beautiful views and course was in perfect condition.
Cool layout-but bunkers hard packed and full of rocks on more than one hole.
The course was scenic and had some great sight lines. We had a fun round and the fescue was a challenge but the bunkers were awful on some of the holes. Full of stones and hard packed. Should not be for the $$. Put some of the greens fees back into the course. More of the same on Wild Turkey.

Breath taking views and absolutely solid golf. Stay away from the fescue

The course aired the greens to early and they aren’t ready. A few more weeks of growth is needed so the price is high for bumpy greens.!

Even on its worst day it’ll defeat 99% of public courses. Awesome place to play and unwind. Steer clear of the fescue
Sand Traps
Horrible Sand traps - no sand in some of the traps , just gravel.
Way overpriced .
Great day despite slow 3 ball in front of us
Overall still best public in NJ. Feels expensive at $170 in November! Course in great condition though greens covered in pitch mark scars as players do not repair. Carts needed soil to repair divots. Greens ran true. Rangers very friendly and proactively tried to push along groups in front despite being swore at by one group!!!!! Range adequate though free balls covered in mud! Club house bar closed for wedding when we finished which was disappointing!
