Course needs some love
It's not a terrible place to play if you can get out and have a decent pace of play. The greens are well-maintained (and difficult). But the teeboxes are embarrassingly bad--mounded and super patchy, and the fairways have grass but it's cut kind of long and uneven. The cart paths are bad. It's just a course that needs some love. In terms of layout, it is interesting. I enjoy the front more, it's a little longer and more open while the back is more about hitting your targets and you can hit some good drives and really be in a bad spot.
Played a nice round, but found out a week later that I was charged for a buddy that didn’t show at the last minute. This is a bulls$$t move. Sorry you lost 4 golfers. Thanks
Need more time ?
With all the down time you would've thought that more improvements be made to the course. For example cleaning up all the leaves , rolling the greens , putting in fill, adding sand to the traps.
Good value with Golf now deal
The course was in ok condition but for all the rain and difficult weather this year the course held up well. Tough to judge this time of year. I will play it again.
Problems
Unless you are hitting every fairway and green you are going to have issues. The rough is hardly maintained. It was 4-5 inches around the green and 3-4 everywhere else. Greens were fast. My biggest issue is that all the tee boxes are crowned. It is really hard to find a flat spot to hit a tee shot. Therefore, I would not recommend this course. It is extremely frustrating to not have a flag spot to hit a good tee shot from. Lost a few balls in the rough that I should have easily found but did not want to look for. Teed off at noon and flew through the front 9 in a little over an hour with a partner. Back 9 got two singles added to our group and took 2.5 hours. No ranger to speed pace of play.
CANNOT RECOMMEND
I am only sharing this experience because it was so bad that I would hate for anyone to elect to pay for a round at Roncocas without reading this first.
To keep it short:
- Majority of tee boxes were significantly crowned. Ball above or below your feet - you pick.
- Carelessly long, straggling rough everywhere except fairways. Miss the fairway by 1 yard anywhere, including around the greens, and you have a 50/50 chance of finding your ball. 1 yard - really. This isn't thick, manicured, cared-for rough. Rather, just a lack of course maintenance & mowing. Rainy weather aside, the rough has been neglected all season.
- Greens never swept of morning dew. I completed my round at 11am on a sunny day. No greens maintenance. Every green was essentially an automated 2 putt. Like playing temp greens. A shame.
I cancelled my afternoon round booked with a Hot Deal for under $30 because the condition of the course doesn't justify any dollar amount or time. There are plenty of quality, affordable courses in the area. Rancocas currently isn't one of them.
Fair value
Layout is fair and challenging. Greens are just ok. Bunkers are in very poor shape. Rough is very penal, long and tough. Staff helpful and friendly. Fair value for the money.
Rough conditions
I've played Rancocas a bunch of times through the years. Weekend rates are high but the weekday isn't too bad.
When I played, on a Sunday, the rough was far too long. Teeboxes were uneven and messy. Fairways and greens weren't too bad. Overall the conditions weren't very good unfortunately.
With that said I've become a bit loyal to Rancocas, despite the course being hit or miss. I'd recommend the course but only for the right price.
Great value
Great calue for the money. Didn’t see a ranger till the 12th hole to tell us cart oath only, but was no where to be seen prior to speed up play! Typical.
Would not recommend for anything over $15-$20
First time playing here in a long time and it was in rough shape. My first review of a course (because I am not picky) but this one was not worth it for us even with a cheap deal. Some holes were fine fairways/greens, but most were very choppy with bad conditions. Hopefully it gets better though of course.
Where is the sand for the traps?
Overall the course is great. The only drawback is there is no sand in the traps. So, we had to drop outside the trap to hit,
Fantastic pricing
Always a great time when playing this course. Challenging. Got to have some shots in your back. Excellent play for the price.
No first cut
Enjoyed lay out. Greens rolled great. Good fairways but frustrating round related to the extreme height of rough. Lost balls that should of easily been found and had to quit looking so as not to hold up following group. Hate to sound like a whiner but got tired of gouging balls from rough. Guess I need to hit more fairways.
