Pace of Play
This is the second time I played at this course and the pace of play both times was extremely slow. The first time was on a Friday and this time it was on a Wednesday. It just took too long to finish.
Insanity
So I don't get into this often, but I just got assessed a charge for missing a tee time. I played Rancocas on Friday, May 25th. I had booked for 4, one of our foursome didn't show, and I explained that to the staff in the Pro Shop. They said it was fine, we could go out with 3, as there wasn't that many groups out that morning. Not only are they recouping the fees, but they said I didn't show. I did. I played the course, with the 5 inch high rough, where we lost balls that trickled off the fairway. It would be a different story had they told me at the course, but waiting 5 days and then assessing a fee after they said it wasn't a problem, is not a good business practice.
I will never, ever be back.
better condition than last year
looks like the course in heading in the direction
nice to see that they are putting improvements in
Nice hidden treasure in South Jersey
I was drawn to Rancocas because the Native Indian influence in the area (Lenape Indians) and the course designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. I can see how they both had an influence on the course design because it flow with the natural surroundings and is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon playing golf. A very enjoyable experience and challenging too. I would go back in an instant and play it again. Go a see what I mean.
Always a Challenge
Have played Rancocas a number of times. It's a challenge with a lot of bunkers, many of which are very compacted making a typical bunker shot difficult, and quite a few dogleg holes. add tree lined fairways on the back nine and you have a chance to sing the double bogey blues Even though its a bit tougher these days, being in my mid 60's now, it's still a nice place to play.
First time out
Was my first time playing this course. The day was a busy day and I was a single. i ended up being paired with 3 other individuals another single and a double. In lucked out that they were all pretty chill and fairly newcomers to the sport. So that made the fact that we only got 9 holes in better than expected. If I was able to go by myself it obviously would have been a netter day but it was good for my first time out this year and for the first time playing the course. Only issue i had with the course were its greens. Were a little sloppy and bumpy. All other aspects of the course were great. I hope I get to play all 18 next time.
Another American Golf Disaster
Used to be a great track but the conditioning and maintenance has gone to crap. Anywhere off of the fairway is an absolute disaster, spotty rough, bare patches, clover, etc. Very poor care of the course for the last several years is showing. Used to be one of the better courses at this price point in the area. Now, I won't be back unless the ownership changes hands. It's in that kind of shape. Not to mention there wasnt a beverage cart or ranger to be seen on the first warm Saturday of the spring. Nightmare.
Great late February golf
Perfect 62 degree, sunny day. Course was very playable. Not wet. Greens actually faster than expected. Rancocas is always in pretty good shape and is very reasonably priced. Especially with a Golfnow hot deal.
Fun
Had a great time (the weather in Feb in NJ really helped, was 75 degrees). Interesting, challenging & fun.
Great for the money
The course was in nice shape inspire of the tremendous amount of rain an snow we have had. Nice layout , challenging but not to hard.
Rough
If you don't get in the fairway and end up in the rough you might not find it. Rough is tall and thick
Some greens in back nine were aerated and were not told about it. Still would come back.
slow pace of play
course fairway and greens are not trimmed very well. rough is very rough extremely tall grass
OK
The pace was brutal, not sure why they let people walk when it is the same price as using a cart. Course was good, biggest complaint would have to be uneven tee boxes. Greens were nice but there is some crab grass growing in them. The bunkers are in challenging spots but the sand is super hard and has rocks in it. This course could be super nice if it was maintained better. If they didn't charge $31 a round not as many hacks would play there and they wouldn't have to maintain it as much. Still decent and I would play again.
Better Value as course maintenance seems to ve improving
Have played here about 10 times in the past 2 years and the course has not been in as a good a shape as it was today. Aside from 2-3 lumpy tee boxes they were in great shape and maintained. The greens were in great shape except for 2, one which was under construction and 10 that was practically covered in divit markings. The fairways were nice and short throughout and the rough was not as long and lumpy as it has been in the past. Took notice on the back 9 that they had removed lots of dieing trees, in the future making it a little easier for those who don't hit the fairway able to recover a little more! Overall, always happy with the value when I leave, but noticed a large improvement.
Course is in pretty good shape
Greens were in pretty good shape, fairways a little beat up, but OK. Overall it was worth the cost.
Nice layout
Course has allot of maintenance being conducted. The buckers has mud and a large number of green are under construction around them. The tee boxes has a large hill in middle which requires you to tee ball on side close to teebox markers..
