Rancocas golf course
It's winter condition so you cannot expect too much but you can never find a flat spot on the tee boxes. Sand bunkers are terrible
Nice Layout but in need of a rest
I have played this course twice now; 1 summer, 1 fall. I like the layout and the range/practice facilities are good overall. I'm sure this place gets pressured given the location, reasonable rates and layout. That said, this weekends round we found the tees and fairways were ok, however the greens were in rough shape (Wait?! construction cones on the front of one green with a front pin location?!) likely from heavy use, drought conditions and reduced post-season maintenance. Even if the weather holds a bit more this fall-winter, it's time to give this one a rest.
Really bad
Hadn't been to this course in 15 years. It wasn't good 15 years ago and, unfortunately, it's gone further downhill. We chose this because it was close to the office and the tee time fit with our schedule. Beyond that, it was a big mistake. We left after 14 holes.
The pace of play is the worst I've ever experienced. A minimum of three groups on every hole. It was worse on the back 9. The tipping point was our last hole - four groups on the hole, while the ranger sat next to the tee box and didn't move an inch.
It was dry and sunny on the day we played, as well as the day prior. However, the fairways were as thick as rough and the tee boxes were uneven and mostly dirt. How could the course allow these conditions?
Something tells me it doesn't matter how poor the reviews are for this course. It won't change for the better. So, do yourself a favor and don't play here.
Great layout
Great layout. Used almost every club in my bag.
Staff is exceptional, and the course was fun.
Rancocas course
This is a tree lined old classic course with lots of character and challenge. From the middle tees you can use a 3 wood off the tee on many holes and be a full club away from the stick. You don't need a driver on every tee. The greens are in very good condition for late August so they must take the time to keep them watered. I am a low single digit hcp. and love to play this old course. Although it's tree lined, the fairways are plenty big enough to hit and being in the rough isn't a par breaker. Over all it's well worth the money. The only bad thing is some of the local players are as dumb as a cinder block. They will back the course up 20 minutes takin their good old time moving along to the first tee. My home course would make you wait for the next open spot if you can't make the assigned tee time. But all in all , I will be back again, I love this place for the money. Dave in Bensalem, Pa.
don't waste your time
GolfNow do not mention the greens were aerated tee boxes were just dirt the greens crew were rude the course is just horrible
Aeration Not Mentioned
Booked time on-line at great rate but current aeration was not mentioned. With fairways burned out well-watered greens could have made the round somewhat enjoyable but aeration prevented than. Very disappointing on-line reservation.
Rancocas does it again with overbooking tee times!
Booked a Friday 7:08 am 18 hole with cart tee time via GolfNow for $25. This seemed very suspicious because normal early morning tee times are $56+.
At hole 1, we learned from the starter that an outing was scheduled for mid- morning. HUH? How could that be if we were starting at 7:08 am? Was the outing a small one that was going to shotgun on the back-nine to start? Starter couldn't answer our questions.
No one was on the entire course except one threesome ahead of us…….until the 5th hole. All of a sudden golf carts filled up all of the holes in front and back of us due to the outing. In fact, many of the holes were double filled with players; two foursomes instead of one foursome! Needless to say, our pace of play instantly went to turtle speed.
The threesome ahead of us called up to the ProShop to complain. A ranger showed up to offer the threesome and our twosome a complimentary round of golf if we wanted to leave. However, when asked if the comp round was for any weekday INCLUDING a cart like it should, the ranger stated "nope---not at all". We told the ranger the comp offer was unacceptable and further commented the Rancocas ProShop should be ashamed of themselves for scheduling an outing and scheduling normal play at the same time in order to maximize tee time sales! We told the ranger we would play on and would NOT HURRY our play or take the shoddy comp golf offer for the benefit of the outing players in front or behind us.
Rancocas Golf course has a BAD reputation for scheduling too many players on a course at any given time; particularly on the weekends. A typical round of golf at Rancocas will take at least 5 hours; possibly more; to complete because of the many players and these players playing very slowly. What can a ranger do if the ProShop has schedule too many people out on the course? Very little!
Be very wary about playing Rancocas if golf round completion time is important to you. If you do decide to book a tee time, be sure to bring a pack of cards so you can play cards while waiting to tee off at every hole.
Great value
Always enjoy playing here. Good conditions along with roaming wildlife.
Golf Time
All is good! Play every Wednesday due to the reasonable price to pay and course is in great shape!!!
Getting better every time I play it
I have played this course about 5 times and played it twice in the past two weeks. The first couple times I played were two years ago and the course was not in great shape - dried out fairways and unkept tee boxes. Hey have definitely done a great job with maintaining it lately. In the heat of 90 degree weather the greens were immaculate and fairways pretty good and not dried out. The course layout has some odd holes where they dogleg severely and you end up going into the next fairway. Also some tight holes where you have to dodge other players mishit balls. It is a dry course so they don't sell alcohol but readily encourage BYOB with coolers on each cart and a bucket of ice next to the carts to fill up before teeing off. Overall nice experience and definitely my course of choice to get out early and get in a 3 hour round with tee times starring as early as 5:30.
A very Long Round
I have played at Rancocas golf club many times over the years, but the pace of play is over 5 hour. Unfortunately this is not the first time it has happened. I enjoy the course but not the over booking?
Not Bad
I found the course in good condition. The greens were on slow side. Several of the tee boxes were crowned, but playable.
Only played the front nine. Couldn't beat price. Front nine plays pretty straight forward, Would play again interested on how back nine stacks up.
Good Time
Some tee boxes and parts of fairway could use work. Greens in good shape. Guys and i enjoyed the round even in the heat (6:40). Pace was excellent. Course worth $$ with GolfNow deal.
Decent for the money
Course layout gives you two very distinct 9's. Challenging but will not overly difficult. Played from tips at 6,600 yards. Fairways were in good shape. The greens were not mowed so were very slow. Bunkers not raked. Not a lot of sand in them either. My main issues was pace of play. We went out as a 2some. Cruised through the first 4 holes no problem. Ran into a 4some and hit the breaks. There were 3 full holes open in front of them. At no point did they use common sense and allow us to play through. Matter of fact they seemed to slow down as if they were playing on the PGA Tour. What's worse - not a single ranger the entire round. Their pace of play was unacceptable.
Last time we play there
Have played at Rancocas over 25 times in he last 3 years as it has early morning times (5:00 or so). Although the course gets better every year - (the greens are in fantastic shape), the rudeness of the staff has never improved. Nasty comments, bad attitudes and LATE opening times are just a few of the things that they need to improve 100%. I am not the only golfer with issues, EVERYONE I talk to early in the morning has the same problems. We are gone... Me, my 3 friends and the other 12 guys that play there regularly. Plenty of other golf courses around... Goodbye
Course in great shape
Played here about a year ago and was very disappointed in the overall condition of the course. Gave it another try and found it to be in excellent condition. Fairways well maintained, greens slow but true and the only drawback was the bunkers - hard sand. Course was crowded but pace of play was very good - got through the course in about 4 hours. Look forward to playing again.
