Ok experience for the value
Must have been a real jewel in its heyday. Course is a bit run down now. Fair layout and challenging but not a ball stealer. Parkland style with minimal rough and medium bunkering that has sand in need of a fill up. (Crusty dirt instead of sand in some cases). Staff was friendly. Course does not offer a 9 hole rate but golf now had $32 rate with a cart that was cheaper than the courses senior rate (I took my parents out and they are only up for 9 holes now at 75yrs young). Enjoyed the day and the layout..would have liked to see the condition a little better but hard to argue with the price. If you are looking for a 19th hole you need to bring it with you as the course is dry. Staff said BYOB is allowed and the carts all have coolers. Overall I would go back.
Long round
This was by far the longest round I have played all year.. I book early tee times to get done early and it was at least a 5 hour round. There were two holes in front of the slowest players I've ever seen in front of us.. And the Rangers to be fair try to hurry them up but were unable to make them speed up.. They should have held them up and let groups play through . It was not and ideal Sunday morning round and nobody can play a round of golf with any consistency under those circumstances
Ehh
This course isn't terrible so don't let the low start rating effect your decision on playing. It has a lot of doglegs but the course is not very long. We played in late September and it was pretty beat up. A lot of people who didn't fix divots, extremely slow rate of play (took just over 5 hours to finish), and very tight course so people are all over the place. Would not recommend playing again unless it was on sale for $25 or less.
Greens need major attention
We were sent off the back to start, only problem was we were waiting for the grounds crew on almost every hole, between the mowers, sprinklers, staff raking the bunkers and changing the hole location in the middle of our approach shots to the green it became very annoying. When we asked an employee on a mower why they let us on the back nine, he stated "this isn't trump national, this is a public course". Greens were almost laughable. Although we got a great Hot Deal is was not worth it. Won't be back
The Greens
I realize aeration is an integral part of course maintenance. I'm just hoping that the recent aeration of the greens at Rancocas hasn't done more harm than good to many of the greens that were scarred and had dead spots.
Everything was fine until the greens
The greens were in really bad shape, as they were being aerated. There was no heads up from anyone about this going on, which is a shame, because the course was in decent shape, otherwise. It was like trying to putt through mini-bunkers on the green, and in some cases, it was comical.
Course in good shape
Course in good shape. Recently aerated the greens so putting was a little adventurous. Tee box condition was the best I've seen in a long time. Fairways were in good shape also. Would definitely recommend the course right now - maybe give it another two weeks until the greens are back
long hot day in NJ
Greens were horrible. they just air rated the front 9 so we played the back twice. Tees boxes were not good too. I hope its just because it has been so dry.
reduced rate was because of limited play due to aeration of greens.
If I knew I was only going to be able to play the back 9, I wouldn't have booked a tee time. Special notes or codes should be listed with reduced rates as apply.
Not Good
It took us 5 hours to play only 12 holes before I could not take it any more and had to leave. The first hole tee off was like a circus with masses of people crowded waiting; we could not find the starter for 10 minutes in the jumbled mass. It took 45 minutes to tee off! Why have a tee time if this is the case? None of the "ambassadors" did anything to keep the pace of play up. And when I complained to the management the looked at me like I was from the moon. They never apologized or offered a partial credit, did not even ask me what happened or what was wrong. I am so mad I am spending more of my time reviewing this course on every place on the web I can fine, I am that mad.
condition of greens
The greens were in terrible condition. Some were diseased, loaded with ball marks.
Needs help!
The fairways were in fairly good shape. The tee boxes were horrible and not level. It was tough to find a decent spot. The greens were also in very bad shape. The greens needed ball mark repairs, the ball would roll and often had a bumpy roll.
A little strange layout. A par five with a short sharp dogleg so it is hard to reach the green in two shots.
Fair Play
Fair value! Greens were good. Tee boxes were below average.
Need on-course services
Played in 90 degree weather, and there was no water on the course. When calling pro shop to report, was told that they were short on staff. On a weather day like that, more attention should have been paid to keeping people hydrated.
Always liked the layout
If your good enough to hit the green with an approach shot. You should also have the ability to repair your ball mark. Unfortunately it's not just this course, it's most of south Jersey's public courses. Not much the course can do to help it. That falls on the golfers responsibility. Pace was unusually slow this day, but the course was in average shape. The price from Golf Now is what made it worth the trip.
Overrated
Greens rolled okay but many were beginning to be infiltrated by crabgrass and there was significant ball mark and spike mark damage in places. Dead spot the size of a basketball on the first green.
Fairways and collars were inconsistent because they had two very different strains of grass which varied from one area to the next. One type was wide bladed and very spongy and the ball sat up like it was on the tee, the other being more tight and firm.
Bunkers have good quality sand but they are full of small rocks and pebbles that wind up all over the greens.
Nice layout though the greens were a bit small and most of the pins were placed too close to the edges of the greens which slowed the pace of play.
Played on a saturday at 2pm. Pace of play was 4:45. Waited on every tee and there were often two groups waiting on the tee, ranger doesn't have the stones to keep on top of these issues.
Not sure how this course is rated as high as it is. Nothing stood out to me as being above average.
Almost
The good layout and greens or held back by the small Tee's and poor bunker conditions.
well worth it
Great design. Good condition. Challenging but playable by the average golfer. Pace was good, managed by the ambassador in a courteous manner. Well worth the price.
New favorite course.
Rancocas has become my new favorite course. It is challenging, in nice shape and has a little of everything. Water hazards, doglegs, lots of trees and heavy rough. Sand traps could be better as some were pretty hard and compact. Wish there was more drinking water on the course. No refreshment carts on the course.
Will definitely go back.
