Whats going on here?
Went here to play with 3 friends. Spent the week talking up the place, but it had been a year or two since I had been there... The course was not up to the level that I had expected...
Awful pace of play - poor conditions
Worst pace of play I've ever experience in golf. When we reached the 2nd tee, there were three groups on the tee (including us), a group in the fairway and a group on the green. We learned from another group that they had double-booked a tee-time due to an online error. It took us 1.5 hours to play three holes...it was trending towards a 9-hour round. We decided to leave and were refunded our money.
I have played Cumberland 10+ times and it was in the worst shape I've ever seen it. Tee boxes were spotty and had weeds. All of the grass was extremely dry. The greens were thicker and not as fast as they usually are (usually they're some of the best greens in the area).
We ended up playing at Turnberry - which I used to consider a notch down from Cumberland. By contrast, Turnberry was lush and green - immaculate. I'll go to Turnberry next time.
We are trully sorry for the pace of play and conditions you experienced during your round with us. Please email me directly so we can have you come back and give our course another chance at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
Recommended!
I have played here about 10 times this year. My wife and I booked a 9:45AM tee time on Sunday for a pair. I had a few friends that wanted to join up with us, so I called the course to ask if they could join our tee time at 9:45AM. The staff was very accommodating. They even gave the two that joined late the golf now rate, which they didnt have to do. We played 18 and didn't have to wait on a single hole. The greens were immaculate, especially with the hot weather we have had lately. The cart girl came by at least every 4-5 holes. It was probably the most enjoyable round I played all year. My wife and I are considering a membership next year. Highly recommended.
Cumberland Trail is so happy to hear that we were able to accommodate your friends to play with you and your wife. It is even better to hear that it is the best round you have played all year that you are thinking of becoming a member!
nice course
excellent course in excellent condition. fairways are pretty wide but lined with lots of trees so its easy to stay safe but if you miss it really hurts you.
Really nice course
Enjoyed the course very much. the holes are well laid out with a couple of decision points to consider on shot placement and club selection. Sometimes less is more.
Fairways were very firm.. The tight bent grass allowed the ball to run a long way!
Several greens are well protected and require a solid approach shot. Plenty of water and bunkers to keep you honest.
Very fair course.. Won't overly penalize you.
Will play again!
Great points on the course and glad that you feel it is a fair course to play. We would love to have you back as well!
Great place for a challenge and fun Course
Take a drive and play and fun place to play course
Cumberland Trail wants to thank you for the great review and are happy to hear you enjoy the challenge and have fun at our course!
Great location to work on our game
We are relatively new/beginning golfers, and enjoyed this course a lot. Not so challenging that you feel defeated, but still provided plenty of "did you SEE that shot?" moments.
Wish we lived closer, we'd probably play this more often.
We played the front nine only, so we'll be back for the back track next time!
We appreciate you making the drive to try our course out and would love to have you back for a full 18 holes!
Love this course!
Love this course! It's a little bit of a drive for me but I play several times a season because it's always well maintained and has a friendly staff!
Cumberland Trail thanks you for making the drive multiple times during the season!
best dry course around
always like this course. always good condition , rain or shine.
We are thrilled to hear you always enjoy your time when you play at Cumberland Trail!
Good Condition........SLOW play
4hours 45 min round on an Wednesday morning. Ranger said it's a bit backed up but did nothing to help. At one time had 5 groups on a par 4. Greens in perfect shape, rough long but playable.
Glad to hear your spoke with the ranger but our apologies for the pace of play. Please email me directly to find out more about how we can improve at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
Very nice course except for one thing...
Overall, the course was in very good condition. The only complaint I have would be that the bunkers were average at best. Several of them could hardly be considered sand traps, but more like mud or dirt traps. Only a few actually seemed to have real sand in it. Otherwise, everything else was in great shape.
Glad you enjoyed your round! We are aware of the bunker conditions and have a plan in place to update. Thank you
Lost a loyal customer
My fiance and I discovered Cumberland late last season and really enjoyed the course. We have played the course 10-12 times this year. We decided to take a couple of friends of ours that are new golfers because we have always enjoyed the course. Earlier in the year we were paying $30 per round. They have now jacked rates up to $49 per round if you book at the course, or $40 if you use Golf Now. We played the first nine holes in 2:15, which is average pace of play. It is especially good considering we had two new golfers with us. As we made the turn, we were badgered by the starter to pick up our pace. We apologized and told him we would let the foursome behind us play through, even though we were playing at an acceptable pace. We waited for them to tee off on hole 10, and then once they reached the green, we teed off. Before we could even reach the 10th fairway, another marshall was out there telling us to pick up the pace. We weren't holding anyone up on the tee blocks, and we had already let someone play through. (We played the back 9 in two hours). These interactions made the round completely unenjoyable. I really enjoyed this course earlier this year for $30 a round, but it is in no way a $49 per round course. There are too many that blow it out of the water that are priced far more reasonably. We have made the decision not to play here any longer, and it is really regretable considering we were really starting to call this our "home" course and we had already played it 10-12 times this year.
We apologize for the experience you had during this round. If you book online, you can find daily tee time deals. Please email me directly to find out more about your round at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
Decent course
The food was better than average, except the hotdogs. Avoid the hotdogs. Play was pretty slow following foursomes. The starter and food staff were very friendly. It seems a bit pricey compared to the other central Ohio courses. The layout is average, not very exciting. They don't seem to get many female golfers as the ladies room needed some repairs.
We are glad to hear you had great customer service from the staff but apologize for the foursomes you played behind. Please email me directly at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
Good day for golf
It was a good day for golf. Sunny and over 60. We had a Golf Now special, so it saved a couple of dollars. The course was in good shape with dryer fairways. We were behind a pair of golfers that wouldn't tee off until the group in front of them left the green for that hole, so play was very slow. It was just myself and my son we had an 11:15 tee time. Since the pair in front of us was slow, we paired up on the first tee to make us a foursome. We spilt after nine and started as a pair. The back nine was much faster than the front. Although It still took us 5 hrs to play 18 holes.
Glad you had a great golf day with your son even with the group you played behind.
Fast Greens
I have played here several times. This course always has some of the fastest greens of any public course I have played. They are also on of the best values for the money. A well kept course that typically has a decent pace of play.
Thanks for being such a loyal golfer to Cumberland Trail!
Nice place to play
Nice course to play that is fun for all golfers. Doesn't punish you if you miss a fairway but plenty of challenges.
Nice to hear you enjoyed your round. Hopefully there will be many more for you to enjoy throughout the season with us!
Cumberland Review
Great course and a great value. Fairways are wide but the bunkers needed a little work still.
Thank you for the great review. We are aware of the bunkers and are working on them!
Need to teach ready golf !
One of my favorite courses in Cbus. Too bad no rangers to teach ready golf. Had to follow a group that all rode to one ball, played, move to next !!!!! Errrrrr it was a gorgeous day too .
Our apologies for the group you played behind. Please email me directly to discuss further at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
Cumberland Golf in the spring
The course was in good condition for the first week of April. Fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were about a 7 or 8 on the stimp scale, which is appropriate for the time of year and weather conditions. They have new golf carts, and they have bag covers in case of rain (and, they are a nice dark green color - incontrast to the usual white). Most of the sand traps have good sand, and it appears that management is deleting unnecessary fairway traps that only catch duffer's mishits. Overall, an excellent first round for the season, a great value for the money.
Thanks for playing your first round of the season with us and we hope there are many more!
Nice layout! Good Greens and A lot of Bunkers
Once season comes in they have some of the best greens in the area. Fast normally and roll true. The course can be as tough or as easy as you want. White tees comfortable easy round, but from the tips and add a little of the Licking County wind and you better have your "A" game!
Glad you enjoy the layout and challenge of the course. Thanks for the great pointers!
Cumberland Trail would love to hear more in detail about your experience. Please email me directly at cinditeetimes@gmail.com
