Manakiki Golf Course
About
Named after a native American word for maple forest, Manakiki Golf Course's defining feature is the abundance of maple trees that line the winding fairways. The course is a classic Donald Ross design. He incorporated a variety of challenges including tricky doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down holes, and two canyon holes. The holes themselves also cover a range from short to long and tight to open. Golfers should prepare themselves for a bevy of uneven lies, but the dramatic elevation changes also guarantee some scenic views throughout the golf course. There are also sand traps but their placement and number were thoughtfully considered to make Manakiki G.C. challenging but still playable. It is popular for this reason but also because it is one of the best rounds in northeast Ohio you can find for under $50.

Target Golf
Playing this course for the first time was very challenging! I should have left my driver in the trunk. Not many grip and rip holes. I can assure you that if you shoot below 90, you played your irons and putter really well! I will play again!!!
Very enjoyable
Very nice course. Definitely challenging, but fun to play. 90 degree cart rule was in effect.
Beautiful July day
Course normally gets a little dry this time of year but the rough wasn’t burnt out at all and was fairly thick. Fast greens and shot placement is the name of the course and it certainly lived up to expectations
Love Manakiki --a real Gem for MetroParks
I wished I lived closer to Manakiki to enjoy on a more regular basis, but is certainly worth the drive from western suburbs --Elyria. The course is awesome, starter was accommodating for getting my 2some out ahead of schedule. We got paired up w/2 young guys, not all that experienced, as they sprayed the ball all over the park. I birdied #1, which is usually a bad omen, so of course a 3putt DbleBogie #4 put me back on the Bogie Train. Manakiki is just so much fun to play, but you have to appreciate the rolling layout, bunkering, the table-top Donald Ross greens and great golf for a reasonable rate.
Bonus Golf
In town for MLB All-Star Game and wanted to squeeze in a round. Could not have been more pleased! Course conditions were good and customer service was excellent, thanks Dave!
Great facility
Course in great condition. Greens rolled well for lots of recent rain
Great Round
Greens are great. Nice Donald Ross layout. Pace of play was great. 3 hours 40 minutes on a Sunday morning. I have seen a lot of reviews complaining about the pace of play. Maybe we got lucky. $60.00 is a little steep for this area but can’t say it was wasn’t worth it. I would pay it and play it again. Didn’t check out anything in pro shop or snack shop so I can’t comment on those.
Manakiki
Course was fantastic. Love old style layouts. Staff was great, got me out early, and were very friendly. Maintenance staff keeps the place in excellent shape. Not from the area, but when I’m back, this is a must play.
Poor Course Management
Took 6 hours and 10 mins to play 18 holes. Course had an outing that they should have posted online. My tee time was 12:30 on a Golfnow deal and didn't tee off until 1pm (30 mins behind). It was cart path only which is fine, but why offer a Golfnow tee time right behind a outing? The course should of made the outing do a shotgun start instead of having everyone play behind them, especially since it was cart path only (which already adds time). After a 3 1/2 hour front 9, I asked for a rain check, but was denied because I booked with Golfnow. This course always has pace of play issues and that's why I only play it once a year. Sleepy Hollow's course management it a lot better, and the best Metro Park Course by far.
Do not play when wet
I usually like this course but I forgot how bad it gets when wet. It has very poor drainage so I recommend you wait for dryer weather.
Hardly Any Water!
We played after a rain storm, so the course was wet and we walked a lot because of cart path only restrictions. Quite a bit of mud. Once you got on the greens it was aerated, so there were holes and sand on the green. Course had hills, elevated greens, some water, dogleg, bunkers in play, etc. I will go back and play when it is dry. I liked the course .it was 62 degrees. Here is a pic of 18th hole.
Beautiful course on a Nice Fall Day!!
Staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. Course itself is a beautiful setting easy to access off the highway. I really enjoyed my round and look forward to playing again.
WET WET WET
It rained at 4am and they should have closed the course. They didnt tell you that until you pay. It poured the day before but plenty of time to drain but not 4am. I paid 36.00 for the course and should have been charged half of that for those conditions
Accessible classic course
If you are looking to play a classic designed Donald Ross course, this is one of the best in the area. It is owned by the Metroparks, and they do the best they can to maintain it on a budget. You will still see a lot of the old architecture and greens. The trees, fairways, and bunker have all crept in over time. A good masterplan would be good for the long term, but you still can see the great bones of the place. Enjoy playing it and have a fun time on a fun course.
Love Manakiki --once-a-year
First, I love Manakiki, had an ACE #5 a few years ago, but now lucky to have GiR. The greens & some fairways had just been aerated/punched, and most greens were heavily sanded. We putted, but didn't care because it was such a beautiful afternoon on this Donald Ross gem. We got a great price of GN Hot Deals, so no complaints about the sanded greens; it just means they will awesome in another couple of weeks & again next year. Very pleasant staff, and pace-of-play was no more than 3hrs (hardly anyone on back9). I try to play Manakiki once a year, so I will be back next year.
overprice outing
Had 44 golfers for a late Sat. morning outing. Staff charged us full weekend price. We have been here in previous years and got a small group discount- nothing this time! It's not like we were taking away premium tee times; nobody teed off within a half hour before. At $56 per golfer plus what we spend on food and beer the management wasn't very cooperative. Will be looking to spend our $2200 somewhere else next year!
A Donald Ross gem............
This is a really fun and enjoyable course to play. We come to Cleveland a couple of times per year to play golf and we always play Manakiki. Greens were in excellent condition and the course was in good shape. Challenging layout but what else would you expect from a Ross course? Another real positive is they have hardly changed a thing since Ross's original design. Tough but fair and always enjoyable to play!!
