Manakiki Golf Course
About
Named after a native American word for maple forest, Manakiki Golf Course's defining feature is the abundance of maple trees that line the winding fairways. The course is a classic Donald Ross design. He incorporated a variety of challenges including tricky doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down holes, and two canyon holes. The holes themselves also cover a range from short to long and tight to open. Golfers should prepare themselves for a bevy of uneven lies, but the dramatic elevation changes also guarantee some scenic views throughout the golf course. There are also sand traps but their placement and number were thoughtfully considered to make Manakiki G.C. challenging but still playable. It is popular for this reason but also because it is one of the best rounds in northeast Ohio you can find for under $50.

Not what she used to be..
Many years ago Manakiki was one of the premier course’s in the Cleveland area. That is not the case anymore, pace of play is snail like the rough is, well rough. The course is poorly groomed.. I will not play there again.
Fantastic course
The course was more than we expected. We had a great experience. Not knowing the area, I am glad we selected Manakiki golf course. I highly recommend This course to anyone!
Greens
If your greens are going to have as much sand as a beach, at least have a disclaimer when I’m booking the tee time. Would have played elsewhere if I would have known.
Used to be better
Wasn't real happy with the course. It has a nice layout but conditions were very soggy. Cart path only again. The greens were aerated and full of sand. No aeration alert was given. On the driving range you have to go pick up your own balls. Overall just not a good experience.
Best Course in the Area!
The course was in great shape and the pace of play was quick. When I played the greens were very challenging but in perfect condition and the fairway was lush. The clubhouse is beautiful and historic and the experience of playing a Donald Ross course is something you cannot replicate. Overall the course was in great condition however it will challenge even the most seasoned golfer.
What's not to love about Manakiki
The sweeping elevation changes on this former country club course are a challenge for my game but I'd absolutely play it again. It's beautifully maintained by the Cleveland Metroparks system.
Beautiful course
Got lucky to beat the rain. Lady working the clubhouse was very friendly. Being the time of year and the forecast for rain, she let me start my round an hour early. One of the prettiest courses I have played. Playing in the fall with all the leaves is usually horrible but the greens keeping staff was awesome. He was pretty much a hole ahead of me blowing the leaves. Can't wait to play this course in the spring.
Gorgeous Course
Playing this course in the Fall is spectacular. This is a beautiful slice of land in Northeast Ohio . The former estate of Hanna family- now owned by the Cleveland Metroparks system. Challenging the greens were in great condition even though they had recently been punched and sanded few weeks ago.The fairways are in great condition The key boxes have shown their wear of the season- Only thing I noticed was nobody rakes the bunkers which is rude-And the carts should have some sand and seed so you can fix your divots. Nice staff. I’m not into hanging out drinking and eating so don’t care about that much. Love it.
Can't say enough about this course
I wish it were closer to Akron especially given traffic on hgwy 8/271 after work, because I'd play it all the time. Very well maintained tee boxes, fairways and greens. Great course layout, elevation change, nice approach shots over ravines/valleys, and such. Some tough holes on the back nine. Fast and true rolling greens, so stay below the hole to score well. Driver actually gets a decent workout on this course, compared to a lot of 4 and 5 irons on other area courses with only an occasional driver. Definitely in my top 5 public courses within a 60 mile radius of Akron. Clubhouse is large and has nice historic architecture.
total package
greens are in the top 5 on the east side public course list. awesome views from he tee box, and once in a while you should turn around and look back from the greens, equally beautiful view. course is a little slow to drain so playing during rainy periods can affect your experience. i agree with the comments about the invisible ranger situation, and during certain times it can be a real death march. trap maintenance could be stepped up a notch, but if your looking to play a public course on the east side, i would make this one me a must. easy access, wonderful views, challenging layout, great greens.
Course conditions
Greens were very nice and quick.
Course is in good shape. My only negative comment is the amount of sand in the bunkers is way too much. As soon as you step in you sink in 3-4 inches. That is way too much sand and it’s like trying to walk on the beach.
For an “upscale” course, I’m surprised no one on the staff monitors this.
Hottest day of the year!
I've been playing here for 27 years and I've never seen the course in better shape! Played 18 in just over 3 hours - just the way it should be.
Cleveland Metroparks does a very good job
Everything was very good. My only negative comment was I only saw the ranger once. The play could have have been better but that is public golf.
