Manakiki Golf Course
About
Named after a native American word for maple forest, Manakiki Golf Course's defining feature is the abundance of maple trees that line the winding fairways. The course is a classic Donald Ross design. He incorporated a variety of challenges including tricky doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down holes, and two canyon holes. The holes themselves also cover a range from short to long and tight to open. Golfers should prepare themselves for a bevy of uneven lies, but the dramatic elevation changes also guarantee some scenic views throughout the golf course. There are also sand traps but their placement and number were thoughtfully considered to make Manakiki G.C. challenging but still playable. It is popular for this reason but also because it is one of the best rounds in northeast Ohio you can find for under $50.

Memorable Layout
Manakiki is scenic and challenging with lots of hills and sloped fairways. The greens and bunkers were in excellent condition. The course has several holes that I will daydream about long after the golf season ends.
Bad Pace of Play / Pairing
Typical golfnow tactic by starter to pair a single with someone or 203 some. Don't like to let people go off the back 9. Pace was slow. Seems like back 9 was over booked, ran into absolute wait on foursome playing slow, not letting a single play through. Too bad because I like this course. Can't seem to find courses in Cle that are managing pace of play properly!
Recommendation
First time I've played this course. Great course and the pace was very good for the best day in Cleveland this summer. The greens were firm but could stop a ball with some spin. Loved the course.
Bang for the buck
Manakiki is one of the nicest public courses in Ohio. For what you pay it's an absolute bargain. The staff is very friendly. You won't find a prettier back nine anywhere.
Great course - placement is key
This course has about 5 different levels of cut on it. The rough will punish you. Tee shots stress ball placement. You can't just grip it and rip it, you will pay dearly. The greens are some of the best I've seen in the area.
Not what she used to be..
Many years ago Manakiki was one of the premier course’s in the Cleveland area. That is not the case anymore, pace of play is snail like the rough is, well rough. The course is poorly groomed.. I will not play there again.
Fantastic course
The course was more than we expected. We had a great experience. Not knowing the area, I am glad we selected Manakiki golf course. I highly recommend This course to anyone!
Greens
If your greens are going to have as much sand as a beach, at least have a disclaimer when I’m booking the tee time. Would have played elsewhere if I would have known.
Used to be better
Wasn't real happy with the course. It has a nice layout but conditions were very soggy. Cart path only again. The greens were aerated and full of sand. No aeration alert was given. On the driving range you have to go pick up your own balls. Overall just not a good experience.
Best Course in the Area!
The course was in great shape and the pace of play was quick. When I played the greens were very challenging but in perfect condition and the fairway was lush. The clubhouse is beautiful and historic and the experience of playing a Donald Ross course is something you cannot replicate. Overall the course was in great condition however it will challenge even the most seasoned golfer.
What's not to love about Manakiki
The sweeping elevation changes on this former country club course are a challenge for my game but I'd absolutely play it again. It's beautifully maintained by the Cleveland Metroparks system.
Beautiful course
Got lucky to beat the rain. Lady working the clubhouse was very friendly. Being the time of year and the forecast for rain, she let me start my round an hour early. One of the prettiest courses I have played. Playing in the fall with all the leaves is usually horrible but the greens keeping staff was awesome. He was pretty much a hole ahead of me blowing the leaves. Can't wait to play this course in the spring.
