Casperkill Golf Club
About
Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie is situated in the heart of the Hudson River Highlands, surrounded by acres of lush, rolling countryside. The course wanders through stands of towering oak trees and circles a few tranquil ponds before moving along the banks of its namesake creek. The gently rolling hills provide the course with elevated tees and terraced greens. Robert Trent Jones designed the golf course in 1944. He created a traditional layout that fully utilizes all of the features of the scenic terrain. The course finishes with a player-friendly hole that offers a great opportunity for a birdie. There is a bunker in front of the green but if played smartly as a three-shot hole, golfers will be generously rewarded. In addition to the golf course, Casperkill also offers a driving range with multiple target greens and a large practice putting green with a chipping and bunker area.

Beautiful
This is a very well maintained course. The pace of play was great. Practice facility driving range sand trap and pitching area is terrific. I really enjoy playing here even though my trip is about an hour and a half to get there. I will definitely be back.
A hidden gem in the Hudson Valley
RTJ senior design, rolling hills and a creek that comes into play on 8 holes make this a great challenge. I didn't hit the same shot twice all day.
Very enjoyable RTJ layout
I was in the area for a wedding and took the morning to check out this great public facility. The course is notable for challenging par threes (including two at 200+ with water to navigate) and interesting use of the topography. Many of the par 4s were great examples of RTJ's "hard par, easy bogey" design philosophy--difficult to get the ball to a good position from a bad tee shot, but you can usually find it and get back into play.
The stretch from 2-4 is typical of the routing. The 2nd is a long uphill par 4 with an undulating green. The 3rd a long par 3 over water (and playing into the wind on this day). Finally players get a break with the drive and pitch 4th hole, but the green is severe and a front hole location was not easy to navigate.
Local knowledge will help on a few holes like the par 4 9th, a right-angle dogleg left with a severely uphill second shot, and on 13, another dogleg left where a longer player can take on the bunker on the inside of the dogleg for a good birdie look.
If I lived closer, I could play this course regularly and would be quite happy.
Beautiful course
Beautiful scenery with rolling hills. Fairways still very wet after days of rain however fairways were groomed well. When it’s a cart path only day , be prepared to walk up some steep hillside Only complaint is there are no bathrooms throughout course. Would recommend
Nice course!
This course is well-maintained and very picturesque lots of beautiful birds and landscaping. My only small and very small complaint is there are no bathrooms throughout the course. Yes it wraps around to where you can go back to the clubhouse but only on the ninth or the 16th hole otherwise I highly recommend this course. A little challenging, but well worth the value. Would recommend to friends and visitors as well.
Legit Golf Course
Every time I play this course I am reminded of how challenging it is. One becomes complacent in this area navigating courses that offer amateur-friendly wide open fairways with ample room to score par after a misguided drive. Hard to do that here. There are no two holes alike at Casperkill. No two greens alike. No two rounds alike. It plays long. It plays to sloped fairways. Sloped greens. There are creeks and moguls. Ponds and traps. And the tallest, widest trees you'll find anywhere. I find that if you wish to get better at shot making, shot shaping and scoring, this is the local course you need to play. I'm 70 years old and still learning this complicated game. And I know if I can score at Casperkill I can score anywhere. Take the challenge. It's worth it.
