Perfect Day!
Clouds evaporated just at start of play and weather couldn't have been better! This course is beautiful with panoramic vistas...one of the best golf experiences I've ever had.
Conditions
Course has a good reputation in the area but when I played its conditions were poor. Fairways and rough were very spotty with very wet areas. Greens were in decent shape. For the price I expected a lot more.
Great round as always at the Reserve
Played the south course. For a holiday weekend, pace of play was decent, although did have to wait on 13 out of 18 holes. About a 5+ hour round, but expected a long day going in. Greens were excellent. Marshall was visible throughout the round which is appreciated.
One of the best
The South Course at the Reserve is one of the best in Oregon. Course was in amazing shape, greens were a bit slower than normal, but still rolled perfectly. It is a great golf experience that I would recommend to anyone. It can be shortened up playing the whites and for the big hitters the black tees stretch the course out making a tough test.
Nice
Pro shop was more interested in answering the phones than helping customers at counter
Beautiful Course!
Absolutely beautiful golf course (South Course) with a terrific layout. Greens were in excellent condition. The only downside was that the fairways were extremely patchy. Hard to understand a course this beautiful would allow this to happen unless it is experiencing financial difficulty.
Slow, but great greens.
The greens were as good as I've ever seen The Reserve. The pace of play was annoying - there were ZERO marshalls ever spotted on the course. Finally we had to call the clubhouse to let them know the two threesomes in front of us had formed a "6-some" and were incredibly slow. While the greens were in terrific shape there were dozens upon dozens of bare spots in the fairways. Hitting a drive in the fairway only to be on bare ground made it difficult to play "Summer rules".
Without a $35 deal on golfnow this would NOT have been worth it. I'm almost amazed that The Reserve gets $55 up to $90 for a round here - WAY overpriced at that amount.
The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club - South Course
Beautiful day at The Reserve. The south course challenges you to place your shots carefully - lots of sand (believe we were told 110 sand traps).
Fun and challenging
An enjoyable round with a variety of challenges. Due to my poor shots, the only way I could have seen more sand is if I had gone to the beach. I'll be back again!
Sand Castles
Seemed like there was more sand than grass at times, especially with how dry the conditions were. A few burned out sections on greens and fairways. I still enjoyed my first time play. Not a course for short hitters they tend to find the sand a lot.
Well maintained greens, beautiful & scenic layout
Visiting from Palm Springs, CA - this course was a great change compared to my usual course layout. The first impression of the entrance, clubhouse facilities, and friendliness of staff was superb. The overcast day made the afternoon enjoyable. Rental clubs were Nike, great condition.
The south course contained it's fair share of fairway bunkers and greens surrounded by hazards. Pin placement was key in a few holes. Wasn't too crowded in the afternoon so pace of play was roughly 3.5 hours for two people, which is always a plus! Nothing worse than constantly waiting on groups in front of you. Streams running through some holes made it a challenge, especially when estimating the yardage. I played from the blue/white combos which play roughly at 6400 yards. The par 5's are easily reachable in two and the par 3's were excellent too.
Some of the fairways had rough spots but other than that, the course was well maintained. The cart girl, Sarah, was very nice and made sure to come by three times - we started the day pretty late so it was great that she stayed so late for a Tuesday afternoon.
Prices on shirts, memorabilia, and drinks were all very reasonable. I will be coming back to Portland area several times and will always make sure to check this course on the list!
Reserve South
The green fees did not match the course conditions.
Very nice course; pace of play needs help and the staff
We played on a Sunday, so we knew it might be a bit crowded...but that was an understatement. The marshalls were all nice (as opposed to the ProShop staff...NOT friendly at all), but they just kept driving around saying it was backed up..sometimes 2-3 groups on a hole. They even stacked us up at Hole 1, saying there were already 2 groups on 2, etc...so we didn't take off until about 15 minutes after our tee time. But the course is pretty, challenging and has alot of bunkers. Hopefully you knew that. I didn't want to jinx it because I was in no bunkers on the front 9, but then I said something (my bad), and basically played out of bunkers on the back! oh well. We actually didn't eat at the restaurant, and I wanted to, but the Pro Shop was off putting (maybe because we had a deal?), and then at the end, there are cart/bag folks there, but no one volunteered to take our bags up, or even came to our cart to help offload, AND they wouldn't let us drive up the hill to put the bags in the cart...pretty bad service. So we opted to leave. I came in thinking it would be more of a "Club" atmosphere, but I didn't feel that way when I left. We did get paired up with a couple nice guys, one was a member there, and he was helpful to have on the holes for tips to play!
Hot Golf!
We played this course on a 101 degree day (which is really high for us Pacific Northwesterners) and the staff made every effort to keep us cool, hydrated and safe in the blazing heat. Ice water jugs every couple holes were always full and cold. Frequent visits from staff on the course making sure we had cold water and a wet towel. Very courteous, friendly and efficient. Beautiful, well maintained and tough course, but worth every dime.
Disappointed
I play The Reserve once a week and usually think highly of the course however the course is really beat up right now. 40$ is an appropriate price for a round right now, nothing higher!
Super solid
Very solid golf course with good pace of play. Great condition with greens rolling fast and true.
Do you like sand?
Sand bunkers are cool and all but it's out of control on the south course. Greens are great and challenging
Good course, but expensive
This was my first time playing the south course. It's got 105 sand traps with huge lips. It's quite a challenging course with some great risk reward holes. The greens were rolling well and we're pretty quick. Fairways were mowed fairly short and had some dead patches but that's to be expected after a 2 week heatwave.
Over all it's a great course. Well worth the $30 I spent to play it on golf now, but I wouldn't play it for $65-75 that they usually ask. For that sort of money id play ghost creek.
Best Golf Experience in Portland Area
As always, The Reserve is perfectly manicured and a joy to play. I can't decide whether I like the North or the South course better. Each one offers 5-star golf. Great clubhouse, food, and staff.
