Nice course
Good course and condition was great. Grees fees a bit high though IMO.
Excellent course in Portland Area
I have played at the The Reserve before and prefer the South Course to the North one. That said, the fact there are many sand traps (often deep ones), and many of them in spots to affect club selection is what makes this course difficult. Several of the par 4s are fairly short, however those that are require placing your ball in a good spot for an approach and being able to stop you approach shots into the green.
While the layout generally does not appear intimidating, the course sort of sneaks up on you at times, especially with the undulations in the greens where you are left scratching your head as the ball did not move the way you think it would.
Still trying to figure out how the 11th hole is the 18 handicap hole (longer par 3 with a large bunker guarding the approach to the green).
Problems:
The weekend pricing is ridiculous. If you guys lowered the prices more people would play. I teed off at 2pm and there were maybe three groups on the entire course when I arrived. Public players do not pay those prices. When we do come there and pay the "big bucks" we expect to be treated properly by everyone. To top it off the cart return boys come out and ask if you need your clubs taken upstairs or stored, but since I am in my twenties I was skipped and not asked only because he thought he wouldn't get tipped. The whole course is run by pretentious jerks. Enjoy!
Beautiful Course!
I really enjoyed The Reserve South! The par 3s and 5s had plenty of length to balance with the par 4s to make the course a nice challenge. The staff was super friendly, and overall I thought the facilities were tops! I was in the Portland area from Texas and had heard great things about The Reserve. It's definitely on my list of "play it again" courses. Greens were fast, but not impossible.
Excellent Condition
Played on July 4 weekend. Perfect weather, no wind. Gorgeous layout with beautiful backdrops to most of the holes. Conditions were superb, fast and firm fairways, moderately fast greens, receptive and rolling true. Bunkers well maintained with fluffy sand. Rough in very good condition, cut short so not too penal and no lost balls. Tee times well spaced for smooth play. My group was a little slow due to spending lots of time raking sand, but weren't pressed from behind.
Lots of sand here but mostly generous landing areas from the tees. Pick the right set of tees and you can score well here if you are hitting good shots. Very enjoyable, fairly priced, highly recommended.
Value Personified!
A great experience including perfect weather, the course was well manicured, there was no one in front or behind us. We played in 3 1/2 hours. Staff was professional and friendly. The maintenance crew would stop their engines when golfers were present etc. A first class experience! Norm King
Challenging Course
The pace of play was a bit slow, but then again it was a Saturday. The course was challenging because of all the bunkers so I had to hit accurate shots off the tee. I think this the course had 160 some bunkers and I found myself in only 7. The course was in excellent condition. The greens were perfect and fast. I would recommend people play this course at least once to experience a challenging course at a reasonable price.
Interesting course with plenty of teeth.
We had a memorable 2 rounds, the course has interesting holes which stand out and will not be forgotten. Like # 10, a great start to the back-9 - an in-your-face long par 4 with water down the left side. # 17 is a similar deal. The par-5s are all decent length and well bunkered. The layout is quite fair with plenty of room to drive the ball. Greens are well guarded by deep bunkers and water in places. Prior reviews regarding furry soft greens are not quite still accurate with a recent run of very warm weather. The greens were firm enough but did roll out to about 9 stimp I would guess so yes they could be mowed down a little. It was not busy on a Monday morning so we zoomed around twice in less than 7 hours ! We inquired about possibly playing the Member's North side, but that was not encouraged which is fair, I'm sure the members appreciate that. The replay rate on the South was a wonderful $25 ! There is some bunker and green maintenance in progress, but that did not detract at all from the experience and it's good to see they care for the place. The clubhouse is beautiful but we did not have time to enjoy lunch on the deck. I would have given an overall 5-star rating if the greens were pristine, which they could be with just a pass or 2 with a lower mower setting. We will gladly return to this nice course when back in PDX. Thanks !
place is slipping
I have seen this course decline over the years. They overwater the course, there is very little sand in the bunkers and the bunkers are wet after 10 days straight without rain. The greens were very "furry" for a course of this expense and very soft (again, the overwatering) for a mid afternoon in the sun. I am also curious why they don't have a snack bar open. Go to Quail Valley or Forest Hills for much less and a better experience.
The Reserve - South
The weather was as good as it gets: full sun, mid 80s, slight breeze. The course conditions were very good but greens were still healing up from recent aeration. Putts were still pretty true to line reads.
This course throws a lot of visual attacks at you. distances between bunkers, water hazards, and holes with false fronts can get to you. So, know your distances and numbers to approaches. This course offers the thinking man a good challenge. This course sponsored the "Fred Meyer Challenge" which brought many top PGA names to the test here. So, give it a try for yourself. You shouldn't be disappointed.
Very solid course
For as wet as the week to 10 days prior to my playing the Reserve was, the course was in great shape. It as soggy in spots, but generally quite dry. The greens were in great shape, were rolling quick, and were very true. This course is one of the nicer courses in the Portland Metro area and one that I come back to over and over again because of its value for the price.
South course
A perfect day of golf at the premier facility in the area. The course lived up to its reputation with a thousand bunkers. I loved the challenge, although a bit disappointed in the fact that some of those bunkers needed more work to earn the 5th star. Never the less I'll be back for sure.
Found Great Course in Beaverton!!!
Spent a week there and excluding all the rain it was a great course and well shaped for the average golfer and above average
I think by adding more creeks and bring them in the play would make the challenge a lot better but overall it was a great course
Great Golf!
This is a great golf course. I play it whenever I visit Portland as my son lives close by. THe condition was real good. The greens were good and getting better daily. I got paired up with a really fun threesome. We had a lot of laughs and great fun.
This is a must play course. A lot of huge bunkers but real user friendly. Good holes to score low on. The food in the bar and restaurant was really good. Staff was real helpful and friendly.
Boggy
The course needs a few months to recover from rains and delayed maintenance.
smitty1
hot deal is the reason we played it. normally this track is a bit out of our price range,50-60,but we try to ply it at least twice a year.
one of my favorite courses. fast greens. promotes target golf. place your shot and you will score well.
the south course is my preference. lots of bunkers and the couse demands that I place my shots with a little forethought.
Fastest greens on the west side
Beautiful course with lots of hazards. Must bring your 'A' game to play here. Course was in excellent condition. Fast greens and challenging pin locations. You will use every club in the bag on this course. Funniest, laugh out loud, foursome play ever!!!
nicely manicured greens
Layout was pretty challenging with bunkers definitely coming into play. The fairways were still somewhat firm.
