Do you like sand?
Sand bunkers are cool and all but it's out of control on the south course. Greens are great and challenging
Good course, but expensive
This was my first time playing the south course. It's got 105 sand traps with huge lips. It's quite a challenging course with some great risk reward holes. The greens were rolling well and we're pretty quick. Fairways were mowed fairly short and had some dead patches but that's to be expected after a 2 week heatwave.
Over all it's a great course. Well worth the $30 I spent to play it on golf now, but I wouldn't play it for $65-75 that they usually ask. For that sort of money id play ghost creek.
Best Golf Experience in Portland Area
As always, The Reserve is perfectly manicured and a joy to play. I can't decide whether I like the North or the South course better. Each one offers 5-star golf. Great clubhouse, food, and staff.
Challenging, but fair
I found this course to be a very good challenge, with lots of strategically placed bunkers, but it plays fair, with plenty of room once you know where to go. It's a very pretty course, and very walkable. Tees and fairways are in very good condition, greens are smooth and fast. Sand was a bit heavy from watering, but in very good shape. If you can avoid bunkers and stay in the short grass, you should score well here. The clubhouse, and overall facility is very nice, and... from pro-shop, to cart girl, to cart return, the staff was friendly and helpful. I had a fun round and a good Hot Deal rate from Golf Now, hope to play again soon.
Perfect shape with greens on the fast side.
Pretty good shape. Needs some familiarization of the course and getting used to slightly fast greens specially on a hot and sunny day.
Great day
Course is in really good shape, pace of play was just about right, staff was very friendly, weather was close to perfect.
fabulous
The only thing that would have made it better would be more bathrooms for ladies out on the course.
Best in portland
Decided to play this course on a guys golf trip. By far the best course we played. Alot of bunkers, but are in great condition so easy to get out of. Great patio for a cold beer after round. All around 5 stars.
Always a Great Experience!
I always try and play this course at least once when I travel from Colorado to visit relatives in Beaverton. Course is always in great shape, staff is friendly, and I always get paired up with interesting folks from the local area. Its always a challenge to get dialed in at sea-level when coming here from 6000 ft elevation, but several of the holes are relatively short and provide the chance to feel at home. A few, however, are too long for me to reach in regulation from the white tees, but I can usually find a good lay-up area to pitch in from with a chance to one-putt for par. The greens are big and roll great. Can't wait to play it again!
The greens
The facility in the grounds were spectacular. The fairways and greens were well-kept and was a pleasure to play on. It is so nice to hit a putt and watch it roll true. The Marshall couldn't be any friendlier, I had a great time.
playing the south side
the rain has taken its effect on the course. I play here numerous times during the summer which is great, today it was wet, muddy and the drainage system did not work
outstanding service, fun round
I would absolutely recommend playing here, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The course was a lot of fun to play even though it was a bit on the soft side, as should be expected in January. It was very playable though and the greens were immaculately smooth to putt on. It was cool playing many of the same holes that the pros played in the jeld wen tradition.Great value and an experience that I will come back for!
Play good in sand? 114 bunkers!
I enjoy playing this course every time. Its just a pleasure to get out here a couple of times a year for the challange it offers; but if you don't try to overpower it, you'll do well. The greens are among the best in the area.
terrible
The conditions on sunday where terrible it took about
4 3/4 hours in the rain. Then we had the marshall pushing us because of the whiners behind us that where not even playing properly. will never play there again
Bunker practice
Course was in excellent condition, beautiful day with good speed of play. The south course known for its sand traps makes it very challenging but fun. My only complaint would be, with all the sand traps I would prefer they groomed them every morning with the normal maintenance of the greens. Many sand traps were rough like they hadn't been maintained for a couple days and of course players do not know how to leave them after hitting out of them.
STBU
Our traveling foursome played the South course for our last gathering of the year. The greens were immaculate, fast and true. Fairways were in excellent condition. We played the blue tees which present some lengthy par fours. Course is challenging but fair.
Enjoyable Day
Course is lined with bunkers....bunkers are not all the same..some are fluffy and some are more compacted...my advice try to stay out of them...pace of play was pretty slow...but it was a very nice sunday in October. We played the front 9 twice due to the slowness. Nobody was on the front 9 once we started again. We finished our second attempt at the front 9 in about half the time as we did the first. There are a mix of people walking and riding so I guess thats just how the pace will be on a nice day. I would like to go back and play again as I heard the back 9 is more enjoyable than the front.
A true Oregon gem
This was my first time playing the South Course, and I was not disappointed. The course was in fantastic shape (no aeration yet!), from the numerous, gigantic white sand bunkers to the fast and firm greens, it's clear that this is one of the standout public courses in the metro area, if not the state. My online rate included the cart, but this would be a pretty easy walk for anyone inclined to take in the view. My only complaint was the pace of play, but the marshal claimed that he hadn't seen the course backed up like this in a long time. I will definitely look to get back on the South Course again in the future!
> 5 hours
Played at 2pm on a weekday AFTER Labor Day and it took over 5 hours to play!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yuk!
