Been better.

I’ve been playing here for years. Always liked the course however the grass currently is far too long. Hit a ball in the 18th fairway and couldn’t find it.

Never coming back

First time playing here. When I paid $75/round I expected an above average course and couldn’t have been more wrong. I’ve never seen a course where the tee boxes where uneven dirt patches, sand traps (if you can call them that) so unkept there were weeds growing in them, branches and leaves everywhere on every hole, we had to call the course by the third hole because my cart wouldn’t start, there was no available drinks/snacks at the club house and half the holes were swarming with enormous wasps.

Jumanji Course - Beware!

This course is in the worst shape I've ever seen any course. Rumor is that when it was closed during COVID, there were people just hopping on and playing for free, and the greens were not cared for. Even so and if that's the case, there's no excuse for the condition that the course is in. The tee boxes and fairways are like cement, giant dirt patches everywhere. The greens are rock hard and bumpy. The bunkers are overgrown like something out of the movie Jumanji to the point where all you see is weeds and tall grass, and no sand. And to top it off, we played a 4:10 tee time, and all of a sudden at 7:40, the course attendant started driving around and booting us off and telling us that the carts needed to be in by 7:50. We were on the 17th hole and he didn't let us finish. But employees did absolutely nothing about the snail slow pace of play that caused us to be so backed up. And the nerve of this place to charge $50 on a weekday twilight. I definitely would not recommend this course to anyone right now. It needs a TON of work to get it back where it was previously, and for the prices they're charging, it is NOT worthwhile. Just a miserable round.

South Shore has always been notorious for that chasing you away towards the evening when you have a cart out.

I've played better

Course was okay but I won't be back. Tee boxes need work, greens need to be maintained (slow and bumpy) and cart paths are barely visible. Not to mention, no drinks...I mean, not even water.

I'll be playing elsewhere but hey, it was an experience.

Play at your own risk

The worst thing about my round was finding no one wearing a mask. No employees wearing one. No golfers wearing one. The cart I got was not cleaned. The starter did not have a mask on and had everyone sign for their cart with the same pencil. I’ve played other courses in the area, LaTourette, Dyker, and both of those courses were practicing appropriate COVID-19 hygiene. Come on South Shore, wake up and start enforcing the COVID rules.

Horrible

Course is in terrible shape. The whole entire course. For this of you who don’t understand, the greens were bumpy and slow. The fairways were dried and burnt. The bunkers were filled with Weeds and rocks.

It’s a crime that they charge over $70 to play golf on this course.

Poor Course conditions

Course was in pretty bad shape overall. Giant bee like creatures all over the place and exceptionally bad on 2-3 holes. No food/ beverage served at all. Staff was very friendly.

Would not recommend

I wouldn't recommend this course to my worst enemy. The tee boxes were in horrible shape and the greens were as slow as molasses. The fairways were patchy at best and the rough was filled with dirt spots. All of this I could have lived with but the worst part was the course was overrun by humongous bees who were burrowing in the ground. Two of the greens were unplayable due to swarms of at least 100 bees. Completely unacceptable even for a municipal golf course. The only positive was the pace of play which I finished in around 4.5 hours. The staff was friendly but could tell they didn't care much. For $50+ on a weekend after 3pm I would expect a lot more. I wouldn't play this course again unless the round was close to free.

Mike the G.M and his staff are always great!!

I have been playing this local Staten Island course for years, and have almost always enjoyed my round. The pace of play is usually quicker than other courses on the Island. And like the title says, Mike, and his crew are always working their hardest to make your experience the best it could be. Even with the Fall leaves, which the staff was working to blow off fairways, the course was in decent shape, and the greens ran nicely. I would caution that some of the Tee boxes were a bit muddy to say the least, but at this time of year with all the rain one could hardly be surprised.

Poor management

I was in a threesome on a reserved time. When I signed in I was told we had to be in by 4:30. This might not have been a problem except the starter allowed a group coming off 9 to jump the line to play 1 -9 again even though 10 was open. This backed everything up at least 20 minutes and every hole was slowed because of it. We waited on every tee and managed to get as far as 14. With our drives in the fairway, a club employee came onto the hole and told us we had to go in, it was 4:15. He parked his cart in front of the green so we couldn't finish the hole. We had no choice so we went in. WE unloaded our clubs and a different employee towing another cart approached us and said the carts need to go in, I told him to take it, we are done, He rudely turned his head and pulled away. His attitude was terrible. If this is how they treat paying customers, I won't be going back. The staff at South Shore is rude and unprofessional. The course showed some signs of neglect but it might just be the time of year and weather conditions. For me, when there is so little interaction with the staff and all of it is bad, why would I ever go back?

Slow pace of play

Didn’t tell me there was an outing. Waited 15-20 on tee box Starting on hole 2. Didn’t tell me it was busy when I checked in. Tried to get 9 hole rebate and guy said he couldn’t and told me to play the front again.
