South Shore Golf Course

Played on a clear 35 degree day so the course was empty. There are still two greens that are unplayable due to vandalism during the summertime. Not a very challenging course but perfect for average golfers like myself.

Played a quick round on a 36 degree day in December. The course was in very good condition. I was truly amazed at how green the fairways were. Greens actually rolled pretty true as well. Pace of play…well there were only 4-5 golfers on the tract. Way better than the last time I was here enduring a mind numbing 5 hour round. High praise to the grounds keepers.

A little tip…don’t wear good golf shoes. The course is covered in goose poop. Management needs a few border collies to scare off the flocks of. geese.

Paid full price and course has temp greens on 12 and 14th holes. God forbid they blow a leaf or two. You hit your ball into the fairway and you are not finding it. Hopefully one day they figure out how to keep those SOBs who keep destroying the greens off the course.

I would have given a better rating if given a discount AND they addressed the leaf situation. The fact that we have to pay full price and deal with the leaves is a disgrace.

I played this course a few months back and two of the greens were messed up (holes 12&14 and received a discount. I played yesterday, months later, the course was still messed up we were charged full price to play the course.

So, I had a 10:15 AM tee time at South Shore this morning. I pull into the parking lot and it's packed. No spaces. As I drive past the 1st tee a see an enormous back-up. I've been golfing for over 40 years and NEVER have I seen a jammed up 1st tee like I saw this morning (see photo). It would have taken at least 2 hours or longer to tee off!!! I went into the Pro (phylactic) Shop to cancel my 10:15 and get a refund and the clerk told me that I cannot get a refund and insisted that my 10:15 tee time would be honored. Of course, that's impossible. Look at the crowd waiting to tee off. This is clearly not right. I will be contacting my credit card compound to see if I can dispute the charge and get a refund. Ya think they would have called and let folks know about the delay. I walked out without playing.

Place was horrible tee box’s was uneven and bad shape the fairway and greens had leafs covering every hole was a mission to find your ball on the fairway not alone the rough place was not worth the money two out of the 18 holes didn’t even have a green to play on. Overall a 0 out of 5

To start, the course had 2 holes that were essentially unplayable; due to vandalism apparently so cannot say much about that. But the 2 holes that were vandalized had no green, just a hole with a flag in the middle of the fairway.

Anyways, the real thing that upset me was the attendant at the front desk, the old very grumpy rude man. He chased us down to our hole at 5:40, stares at us says nothing, and we asked what’s the matter. The young gentleman was very friendly, only person responding. We asked if it was time to bring the carts back, the old man just stared at us with a very rude and nasty face. Then we asked if we can finish the hole then bring the carts back, and he responds “you can walk”. Very rude and terrible hospitality.

Luckily I used a hot deal. The fairways were aerated so vigorously that it was unplayable! Cigar size plugs covered the fairway. (Every fairway) No warning or notice. Two greens were closed due to neighborhood vandalism. In addition I was stuck behind 2 foursome's for what seemed like an eternity. The lead foursome were 4 men betting on every shot and taking 10 minutes every green to read the break! And they were playing from the tips!!! 3 shots to get near the GREEN.

The foursome in front of me must have been their wives. They had to sit and wait for the men to move along. I felt bad for them. There were 4 open holes in front of the men. I really don’t play on Staten Island much due the slow pace of play. I’m definitely not going back anytime soon. The staff are great. Greens are good…the pace and fairways are terrible.

This course had 2 greens that were unplayable, they stuck the flags in the fairway in front of greens, you could not putt, there should have been some sort of discount for these conditions

Considering two greens were damaged /closed there should be a discount relative to other courses on Staten Island.
