Not great after rain
Great Staff, Nice course, not great after a heavy rain, many holes don’t drain well.
Nice Course, Well Maintained
Playing on a Thursday afternoon the course was not too crowded at all (which is how I like it).
The course is challenging with water hazards, sand and smaller than usual greens.
Regardless of your handicap you will enjoy this course because it will test your skills.
The last couple of courses I have played in the fall leaves were all over the course. Very few on this course but that is because they had people on the course clearing the fairways. I was very happy with how the course looked and played.
I will definitely be back.
Great value and awesome experience
The course was in very good condition after the last two heavy rain storms. No signs of storm damage or lack of upkeep by the course staff. Great job on keeping it pristine. Played this course 5 years ago and I wondered why it took me this long to return. Thank you for the awesome experience again.See you next season.
Loch nairn
Got a great golf now hot deal, $12. The course was in good shape. Greens were small bore aerated and really had no effect on putting. Fairways were good, some low spots very wet, 2-3 holes were cart path only. Course was not crowded, played in 3 1/2 hours.
Challenging short course.
The course was in the best condition it’s been in all summer. The greens truly rolled out and we’re in great condition. They have one of the longest par fives in the surrounding area and the layout provides a good challenge.
Fun old course
This is a fun old course with plenty of hole diversity -- very long and very short par 4s, a monster par 5 and a reasonable length one, and some challenging par 3s of varying length. The course features water and traps galore. It plays to only 6,000 yards from the middle tees but seems longer as it has a number of uphill approach shots and is only a par 70. It has perhaps gotten a bit overgrown over the years as some trees that may have once been challenging "trouble" on a few of the shorter holes now require such accurate tee shots that higher handicappers will nearly always hit them -- and play will be slowed down. Luckily today the course was pretty empty and pace of play was good...
Course conditions are pretty much abysmal -- except for the greens which, have some dead spots but rolled true for the most part (and are challenging and difficult to read if you are not familiar with the course) Fairways are pretty much shot and tees were bare and lumpy. This probably is due in large part to the incessant rain this year -- the ground is saturated and there was still standing water in many traps as well some fairway areas even though it had hardly rained the past week!
If you are willing to roll your ball to find a decent patch of grass you can still enjoy this course. And, at $30 with cart (which is absolutely necessary given some lengthy green-to-tee walks) it was a good deal today...
Sal
Tee boxes need work, and the fairways need over seeded. A lot of bare spots. Greens rolled well and they had good speed. Over all the course needs some work ok for the $ 25 range, but not much more.
Rain Delay
Unfortunately, the recent heavy rains have taken a toll on Loch Nairn. A lot of the tee boxes have no grass, and many of the fairways have very thin grass. I hope the course can come back, but until it does, I don’t recommend playing Loch Nairn.
Could be so much better
Ok, the rain has been almost biblical, but allowing for that, this course needs some work. Tee boxes are uneven and mostly dirt. Fairways have little grass. Greens are in decent shape, but with inconsistent speeds. Cart paths are chewed up with potholes and the directional signage needs a transfusion. At least two holes should have been closed because of standing fairway water. Saw NO grounds crew working to alleviate conditions. Pro shop has little merchandise. Is $ a problem here? Won’t be playing here again anytime soon.
A Chester County Gem
I have been playing this course for over 50 years (back when it was Red Fox). The course never disappoints. It is not a long course, but the holes are interesting. The greens are some of the best munis I have played , and even better than some of the local private clubs (ie Hartefield). The staff is friendly, and a very nice 19th hole. Great value for the money.
Solid course.
Mostly tight layout with lots of water throughout. But some very interesting shots that you won’t see at other courses. It’s tough but worth the price.
Loch Nairn a good track
Played the back blue tees and seemed much tougher than the 123 slope. (I think it should be more like 128.) Some intimidating tee shots and several semi-blind approaches where the pin is just peaking above the swamp cat tails. Five par fours were in 404 to 471 range. Two of the par 3s were about 200 yards. Greens were on the small side with some significant slopes, and drop-offs next to or behind some.
Course was a bit soft from rains but the conditioning (greens, fairways, tees, bunkers) was good.
Biggest drawback: Bothersome and somewhat dangerous (believe me, I know) congestion of tees and cart paths for different holes when you first cross the road (I think beginning at hole 7).
I’d give this course 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5.
QUality course
Greens were in top shape. Requires Course management, not just long ball. Definitely will play here again
Tough course: be ready for a challenge !
Not your typical golf course that has wide open fairways and usually straight shots to the greens. Be ready for a challenge; blind shots to the green, layup shots to avoid marshy hazards, lots of trees, etc.
It was in the mid- to high 80's so lots of water coolers on the course was a HUGE PLUS for me. However,
I did not see one portable toilet out on the course. My 4 some are all over age 62, so something the management should consider. Overall, I give Loch Nairn 4.5 stars out of 5... enjoyable round of golf. I'll be back for sure !
Loch nairn
Enjoyed the round. Played by myself in 2 1/2 hrs. They had me start on the back nine and then played the front when it was less crowded. Greens were in great shape, fairways were good as well. Not a long course but has many holes where accuracy is required. Would play again, if temps are good, would walk. Friday was too warm and humid for walking.
