Pace of play is S-L-O-W
It should not take almost 6 hours to play this course. We were a twosome stuck behind and extremely slow foursome. The ranger did nothing to speed up the pace of play.
Nice course, challenging
Loch Nairn GC was in great shape in August because of all the rain we've had this summer. The fairways and greens are in top notch shape. The Tee boxes need some work but didn't affect our play. Some fairways are narrow but not as bad as I remembered from a couple of years ago. Plenty of water coolers, good thing because it was a hot day, much appreciated. We'll be back for sure....
A Bit Swampy
Past reviews mentioned how wet this course has been. That hadn't changed when I played. It had rained the night before so it was path only. You would think that would make the greens more receptive but they are cut very short resulting in hard bare spots.
They may need to remove some trees to allow sun light in to promote more growth like Penn Oaks when they had to replace all their greens.
Course is tight with small greens
The tee boxes need a lot of work. The fairways are narrow. The greens are small. This course could benefit from making a yardage book available to new players.
Cours Good
The course was in decent shape. Very tight fairways and very small greens, making accuracy and not length very important. The downside was playing behind a very slow 4-some. I was in a 4-some myself and played the front nine in less than 2 hours. We caught up to the 4-some leaving the tavern and they proceeded to tee off before us, even though we were coming off 9 and moving directly to 10. It took 2.5 hours to play the back nine.
First time at Loch Narin
The course was is good condition and the staff was friendly. The front nine was moving at a normal pace but the back nine was very slow. The greens were very fast and it was difficult to hold the greens on approach shots. But all in all it was a good day and I would play there again.
Rude
The Ranger was very rude to our group. He kept bothering us about our pace of play due to the club championship playing right behind us. Our pace of play was about 12 minutes per hole. Our group was even playing a scramble format. Will NOT play here again!
1st timer at the Loch
I was pleasantly surprised by the course. I will say that the overnight rain didn't make it easier to play. The course had the usual signs of the summer rains, puddles, summer patch issues, disease issues, etc, but didn't effect the layout. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of the holes, layout, and the condition of the greens. The price was good and they offered a Senior rate of $49 on the weekend which is very reasonable. I will try to get back in the Fall when conditions should improve. Greens were in very good shape. A nice place to play close by to West Chester where my son lives
Loch Nairn Golf Course
I like this course, plenty of challenges, tough to play for the first time and by yourself because it's difficult to tell where your target should be. Course is always in great conditions although it does not drain well after heavy rain. If U are a Senior or a short hitter then I strongly recommend to play Sr T on hole # 14 and 18 because they require forced carry shots
Not fun for the first-timer
The course is not long, but it is tight, and has several shockingly unfair greens where there is basically no way to land the ball on the green. I can enjoy a short, tight course, but this one really isn't pretty, and despite a totally dry day it had a few areas that seemed to be water-damaged. And frankly it was not in the best of shape.
Loch Nairn is a shot makers course!
A recent addition to Golfnow.com, Loch Nairn is a shot makers course. It is a scenic, interesting course, Island green, dogs legs left and right, challenging difficult par three's, postage stamp green #9 from 200 yards, lots of water hazards, and the greens are in great shape and true! From the blue tees I used almost every club in the bag. Only negatives are the White tee boxes are a bit beat up and some of the traps are not great (rake and place if necessary, problem solved). Love the atmosphere and the food is outstanding! Holes 16, 17, and 18 playing into the sunset is a nice treat if you like playing value golf late in the day.
Good value for the dollar course!
enjoyable
course is not long but fairways are narrow and tree lined. greens putted true, fairways were cut nice. A nice variety of holes for a par 70 course. could use a little better visibility of yard markers. Overall had a nice day.
Trees, trees, trees
Challenging holes amidst lots of trees. Greens are excellent.
fun round
the course was in very good shape overall. the tee boxes were a little chewed up, but everything else was in great shape, especially the greens. the course is a fun play with a variety of holes. we went out as a 2some and finished in about 3 1/2 hours. not bad for 11am on a sunday. the bar has very good food for after your round.
Great New Entry to GolfNow
I have played this course for 50 years, but not recently because they were not part of GolfNow. I am pleased that they joined, and will play it often. Course conditions were good, especially the greens which were excellent. They have a nice bar and patio with good food. They are renowned for their crab cakes.
Decent value if cost is important to you
I've been playing Loch Nairn for over 25 years, and was more or less the course I learned on. On the good side, the course provides a nice variety of holes, from straight on in front of you to doglegs, but relatively flat. The greens are a little small, so it makes your approaches all the more important. Some holes have very weird approaches, where the green is hidden, although they are trying to improve the sight lines, especially on the back 9. Water comes into play surprisingly a lot with several ponds and a stream that meanders throughout. A good smattering of bunkers keeps you honest, although they are rarely filled with sand. The worse part is the lack of yardage markers. 100 and 150 on most holes, but that's about it save for a few hard-to-find sprinkler heads. No GPS on the carts. The pro shop is excellent and the best part is the restaurant/bar - great food! A modestly priced course makes it a good value. Overall, there are better courses in the area like Broad Run or Inniscrone or Wyncote, but if you're looking for an inexpensive round to scratch that golf itch, this is the place.
