Linfield National Golf Club
About
Linfield National Golf Club is a public course that is one of the area's best values. Formerly known as Sycamore Ridge, the course changed ownership in addition to its name. Since those two major changes, the course boasts better conditions and a renovated clubhouse. The layout has a classic links design that incorporates traditional elements including water, trees, and a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The up-and-down of the golf course is one of the most challenging elements of the layout. The course is tight with a few adjacent fairways but this configuration also allows for a bit of extra room for recovery shots. Some of the holes at Linfield National Golf Club are quite narrow but it is still possible to hit the green in regulation. Though the course is only 6,164 yards, the rolling terrain will make it seem much longer.

Awful, what happened?
I've played this course many times over the years and I know the owners have been trying to improve the course but....
The back nine was closed for aeration, so we had to play the front nine twice, which we were NOT told about when we booked our tee time. To me this is a crime. If you are aerating that should be the first thing you say when you pick up the phone. Few things get me angrier, and there are courses I won't go back to because of this.
When we got on the course it was some of the worst conditions I've every played in my life. I know the weather has been rough on local courses recently, but there are plenty of other courses that are able to maintain good conditions. My back yard is in better shape. The fairways weren't much better than the tee boxes (see picture). The greens were poor and the majority of sandtraps looked like they hadn't been touched by maintenance in days, if not weeks.
When we stopped at the clubhouse after our first 9 the guy working behind the bar was on the phone for at least 5 minutes before acknowledging us, and there were no dogs left.
I'm not sure I'll be back here again until I hear from actual people, not fake reviews, that the conditions are better.
Poor greens and too many dog legs
I had really be looking forward to playing Linfield National, but the course was not in its best condition. Tees were covered with divots with many having huge bald spots. This was likely because many of the dog legs are too short to hit anything but a long iron. The course is very tight with excessive use of the dog legs and view blocks to create a course which is less about a challenge and more about guessing on club selection. Fairway bunkers don't really come into play except for the few blind shots that put them in play unknowingly. The greens where extremely inconsistent and had not be cut or rolled recently. Putting required fixing multiple divots along your line (why can't people fix their divots) which just slowed down play. Many of the greens looked more like green images of the moon and the fringe was almost completely destroyed down to the dirt. By the time we got to the non event par 4 straight away eighteenth, the only straight away hole except for the very short par 3s I could not wait to get off the course. Linfield National is close to several other courses that are better maintained and a better value for your money I would play one of them instead.
Buzzwoody,
Thank you for your feedback, though we are sorry to hear you did not have as good of an experience as expected. We hope you give us another shot soon, so we may exceed your expectations. Please know we have been maintaining the course extremely well in spite of weather lately.

What happened?
The course is horrible shape. Tee boxes are almost unplayable. The green are no great shape either, bunkers where full of water. I was told the superintendent was off on Sunday not sure how that is possible after a storm. You think the ground crew would pump out the sand traps and rake them. Also shouldn't the grounds crew cut and fix the greens in the mornings. That is a 7 day a week job. I would recommend you contact a turf supply company to assist you super seems like he is not capable of maintaining this course. I play this course on a regular basis, but until turf issues are resolved it is almost unplayable.
knewell,
We appreciate your feedback, though we regret to see you did not have as great of an experience this time around. Please know that considering how weather has affected other courses in the area, we are maintaining the course as best we can. We hope you give us another shot soon.

I play here several times a week. Great $20 after 5! It sounds like you could do a better job???? Lol . 7 day a week crews, water, chemicals, labor, taxes, continues to go up but we pay less! Be part of the solution and not part of the problem!
One of my Favorites
I like this course. It gives you a bit of everything. Water, elevation changes, narrow fairways, wide fairways, hidden hazards, etc. Unlike some other courses, you don't get that deja vu feeling on the second nine, "haven't we played this hole before". The only thing it might not have is really long distances. But overall, the course just has a great feel on a nice day.
My son and I play here about 6 times a year, fairly often in 90+ degrees, so the water stops are appreciated. They generally keep the course in really good shape and we always have a fun round in all respects. The staff has been friendly, remember us -sometimes, and ask how it went when we get in.
I definitely recommend this course. It would be one that beginners would appreciate too (from the red tees). One very good improvement would be some sort of warm-up provision -even if just a driving cage outside somewhere to get in a few swings.

Linfield National
The last time I played this course was three years ago.
The course was in great condition, especially considering the extreme heat and recent drought the past several weeks. The staff was friendly and accommodating; they were most proud of their course! All in all, a very good day out!
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are thrilled to hear you had such an excellent day spent on our course. Please join us again soon for your next round!
Do you like doglegs?
The Course is in vey good condition. However, the fairways are very close together. There are also only a few holes in which you can use your driver. The holes are still reachable if you tee off with an iron.
NESTER,
Thank you for the 4-Star review! Yes, accuracy is definitely a premium when playing our course. We hope to see you out again soon!

Course is smushed together. Terrible tee to fairway play. Course condition and layout sucks. I would not return to this course .

Excellent course grooming
My play went up a notch because of the course conditions: greens were fast and true; fairways in great shape; rough was properly trimmed and made me pay a price when I visited off the tee; bunkers well-placed and sand was soft.

Memorial Day Weekend
I'd played Linfield once about three years ago so I had a dim memory of the course.
It''s not a long course but does have a lot of tight holes that require good placement. As the round was on a busy weekend, there were a lot of "Fores" being yelled (the 4some before us seemed to do so on every tee). Course was in pretty good condition and I thought the bunkers were well maintained - got into 3 of them and up and down for par on two and for birdie on the third so my perspective may be tainted by them being to my liking.
No driving range but a decent putting/chipping green.
Price was good, layout shortish but challenging, condition was very good.

Mother's Day Serenity
Teed off at 9:15, finished at 12:15. Played alone with a quick twosome in front and a long forgotten foursome behind.
Cart path only due to recent rainy days and weeks, but course in good condition with little sitting ground water. Greens receptive and rolling true.
Linfield gets better each year after nearly becoming a pasture a few years ago.

Great for the money
Went on a wet day and the course was still beautiful. Great greens and great fairways. Pretty open also. Recommend.

First time Play
I played Linfield National for the first time on a Sunday afternoon using a Golfnow hotdeal for 18 bucks. This is a good course to play particularly if you can get that price. The regular tee time rates I think would over price the course, particularly given its current condition. The greens were air rated on the day that I played. Putts were makeable even given quite a few jumps on the ball. A smooth flat surface would yield quite a challenge given some of the undulations on the greens. The bunkers were ok, a bit stony but I got the ball out fine on both occasions. The fairways can be a bit tight on some holes and the dog leg holes have extreme left to right or right to left turns. The course is not all that long, I recommend playing from the blue tees for a decent challenge. My only gripe would be the pace of play was terrible. With no ranger and or starter it got jammed up. Part of the problem is some of the golfers who are very recreational didn't necessarily understand the etiquette, such as letting people play thru for a smaller group or single. There was also a group all playing cart path only on a day where there was no such ruling. Walking to the ball, then walking back to the cart to select a club, sometimes changing their mind. We have all experienced it before, and not the courses fault but a ranger can manage this somewhat. Overall the setting of the course near limerick power plant is a cool backdrop. The clubhouse seemed nice, so if you get a deal this place can be a convenient local place to hit.
u0000007429294,
We are sad to see this review only yielded 3-stars. All golf courses, including Augusta National, must aerate their greens (usually twice a year, spring and fall). What this does it allows the soil temperature to rise yielding greater growth. It provides the roots with a healthier and quicker path to new dirt. We lowered our rates to counteract this maintenance and we found golfers still found value. We can assure you the turf is healing nicely and we are ahead of schedule with recovery! We are glad you found the backdrop of the course to be nice and we hope you can come back soon to experience Linfield National in its mid-summer form. We can assure you the turf is healing nicely and we are ahead of schedule with recovery!

Great character
Early-season greens a little rough but enjoyed the character of the overall course. I would play again.

Thank you for the 4-star review! We hope to see you back again as we expect a fantastic and healthy summer.

Good Spring Golf Course
For late March, the course was in good shape with only a few areas still under maintenance. A nice challenge with many dog-legs, but hole 9 really could use something, a boring way to end the first round. I would definitely play here again as long as the course wasn't crowded.
u00000787401,
Thank you for the review! We are pleased to see the course in good shape so early in the season and we look forward to a long and healthy summer! See you again soon?

Signs of Improvement
I've always liked Linfield, warts and all. I think it's one of the better values in the area. Given the time of year, I thought the course was in good shape. They're eliminating some fairway bunkers .. all for the better. Plus. the new signs at the tee boxes are a nice touch. I think with a little TLC, Linfield (please address the bunkers!) can become one of the better tracks in Chester County. No complaints about the staff...always helpful and responsive. Pace of play usually not an issue late afternoons...holiday week no doubt a difference maker.
tpa622,
Thanks for the review! We are glad you see the value that Linfield offers! Per the bunkers, our maintenance staff is actively working hard to improve in all aspects of what they do, including the bunkers. I think you will see them improve in the coming months as we have plans scheduled to improve them! Please come back out and see us soon, summer is close!
