Linfield National Golf Club
About
Linfield National Golf Club is a public course that is one of the area's best values. Formerly known as Sycamore Ridge, the course changed ownership in addition to its name. Since those two major changes, the course boasts better conditions and a renovated clubhouse. The layout has a classic links design that incorporates traditional elements including water, trees, and a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The up-and-down of the golf course is one of the most challenging elements of the layout. The course is tight with a few adjacent fairways but this configuration also allows for a bit of extra room for recovery shots. Some of the holes at Linfield National Golf Club are quite narrow but it is still possible to hit the green in regulation. Though the course is only 6,164 yards, the rolling terrain will make it seem much longer.

I will definitely be going back here again!
It was freezing cold and windy day and I still had one of the most enjoyable mornings in a long time at Linfield National. The course itself was in great shape, and not totally overwhelming for a newer player such as myself. The Head Pro and GM there is a very nice guy and seemed to be super interested in making sure that everyone was enjoying themselves. Lunch at the bar was even good! Well done everyone at Linfield-I will see you again soon.
Challenging, fun and in good condition!
Linfield National is in much better condition that a couple of years ago. Actually stopped playing there because of previous condition. Just played yesterday and now I can't wait to go back. Deal on golfnow.com was fabulous: $25 for a 10:30 weekday tee time. Didn't score well, but really liked the challenge of the uphill/downhill and hazards. New owner very friendly and enthusiastic about the property. Wish him much success. I will be recommending Linfield to my fellow golf friends.
Average local track
Pretty decent shape for the time of year. Pace
Of play good because of the day. Greens very
Nice.
Very fun day. Picturesque, varied.
They had just moved all of the tees up to the Reds for the winter so many holes were a little short, but the course condition was good, the value very good. Look forward to going back there again.
Potentially one of the best public courses in the area
Overall, a challenging course. Fairly narrow fairways, but chances to recover from adjacent fairways. Pretty quick, undulating greens. For some reason, could only tee from forward tees which helped score, but made evaluating course harder. Somewhat slow play, but probably due to unusually high demand from great weather for a Sunday in November. Apparently the club came under new ownership a year or so ago; hopefully they will institute a good marketing play and build a following without the need to raise rates significantly. Currently, one of the better values around.
This Course Will Grow on You
If I could give 3.5 stars, I would, but I know this course deserves more than 3 stars.
I have played this course 6 times this year and many other times in the past. No matter how many times I play this course, I never get bored of it. My best round ever (78) took place here, but that doesn't mean this course is a cakewalk. Over time, I've learned exactly where to place each shot, which is part of the fun.
In general, even when you play on the blue tees, this course will not feel long. It's a forgiving course because there are several adjacent fairways and the trees between fairways isn't very dense. The front 9 is fairly wide open, but in my mind the back 9 are really fun.
Hole #1 grabs your attention immediately because you'll have to judge how hard to swing your drive (that's if you don't get distracted by the steam coming off the Limerick Nuclear Plant). If you swing too hard, your ball will take a bath in the pond and never return.
Hole #4 is a par 5 that starts with a very narrow downhill drive, which then turns 90 degrees to the right and uphill. You need to hit your drive just right so as not to waste your second shot.
Holes 6 and 8 offers nice views of the front 9. In the fall season, you can catch some spectacular foliage. Hole #8 is a well designed hole: you get to cross a pond with your first shot, ride over a scenic bridge, ride on the cart path that cuts through the fairway, hit a dogleg right approach shot onto a large green, and hope for a two-putt or better.
Hole 10 starts off with a tricky downhill drive. Way too many people pull their drive to the left after eating a juicy hot dog from the grill, so concentrate! Depending on the length of your drive, you'll either hit a blind approach shot onto the green, or a very tight shot. Basically there's a big mound on the right that separates the 8th green from the 10th fairway.
I know many people detest the par 5 hole 12, since it's the least forgiving hole, but I think it's the most interesting hole among all the courses within a 20 mile radius. You need to tee off with a long and straight drive because the fairway is only about 30 yards wide. If you are confident hitting 200 yards with your long irons or fairway woods for your second shot, by all means do it. It just means you have to carry about 180 yards, and land it on a two-tier green that's only 10 yards wide, protected by two bunkers that are 10 to 20 feet below the hole. The sensible thing is to lay it up, leaving a 110 to 135 yard 3rd shot depending on pin location. If you par this hole, hats off to you.
Hole #13 is another very interesting hole. There is a huge tree about 200 yards out on the right side of the fairway, but the branches occupy about 1/3 of the fairway. On the left side of this 25 yard fairway are big mounds that shield the 14th green. Oh, and the fairway shifts left to right. So your options are: 1) Hit a short, straight drive that lands in the middle of the fairway, 2) Hit a fade so you clear the tree and get a closer approach shot, or 3) if you really want to show off, hit a draw around the right side of the huge tree. On your second shot, you need to cross a valley and hit an uphill green. Very interesting hole indeed.
Hole 14 short par 3, but your tee box is about 60 yards above the green and across a pond. For the accurate golfers, this hole can be quite exciting.
Hole 15 demands a straight tee shot, and anything else is just trouble.
Hole 16 at the moment is a short dogleg left. When they re-grow the grass for the blue tees for next year, this hole would be even more interesting.
Hole 17 is a very long par 5, and the only time you see houses, but they don't really get in the way. At this time of the year, the incredible foliage behind the 17th green is postcard material.
Hole 18 is a scenic, long and straight par 4 with multiple side bunkers. You'll need to long and straight shots to reach the green.
Overall, the greens and fairways are in pretty good shape, but there are a number of tee boxes that require attention. They packed a lot of holes in a small space, but they did a nice job making each hole unique.
Everyone who works there is super friendly and I can only see better things to come. Trust me, the more you play here, the more it will grow on you.
Needs more tender care and a helmet would useful
Extremely narrow course. Fore is a frequently heard sound. This is due to the very small confines. It feels like this is the smallest amount of land needed to get 18 holes.
Bunkers need a lot of work. Staff were friendly
Good layout, terrible condition
This course has great potential but looks like no one takes care of it. Many fairways had little to no grass, and there was crabgrass all over.
