Worst shape I’ve seen it.
I’ve played here many times over the years and usually the greens aren’t too good. Recently they’re border line unplayable.
Respect for the Course
We had a group cut in front of us at the turn. We played the front in less than 2 hours and the back in 2 1/2 hours. They were a threesome and so were we.... they rode on the fairways when it was cart pat only but still managed to develop a two hole gap after 5 holes as we were behind a twosome on the front.
Instead of beating traffic home, I got caught in some rush hour traffic. Others were violating the cart path only.
Course
Course design was great. Could've beena really nice course. The poor condition and the greens are terrible. Will never go back until they do a full 180.
Poor choice
Check in was very safe seems like the people running it were very covid conscious
Golf course was in terrible shape very wet which could have been taken care of by power blowing the water not leaving it to puddle and collect on the fairways and traps cart paths were in very bad shape groups were bunched up on the first tee with no starter so nobody followed thier tee times roughs were not cut because of the water everywhere and greens were in bad shape some greens were OK but most were bad
Haven't played this course in a while but it will be a long while before I play again
Never playing here again
Pace of play unacceptable. They have like 2 people working the whole course. No starters to group people up. We had two twosomes in front of us and no one wanted to pair up. On a par 5 tee box we had 4 groups waiting. Mecklenburg county cannot run a golf course. Also, the course was not in good shape at all. Greens were a total mess. I won't becoming back.
Nice Layout
This course is fun! It’s not in the best shape but who cares?! You are probably not that good anyway. Just enjoy yourself for the 4-6 hours you are out there looking for your ball and foot wedging your way around 18 holes.
This course has a great layout and some fun holes. Clubhouse is definitely old school but that is what makes it fun. Friendly, accommodating staff too. You don’t get that at those stuffy golf clubs. Enjoy!
Great deal for a Sunday morning. However, it'd be nice if there was a Marshall riding around on the weekends - this is the 3rd or 4th time my twosome has gotten behind a foursome (or in the case yesterday, a FIVEsome) that would not let us through. A round that should have taken four hours took almost five.

This course needs some serious work with the cart paths. Overall decent challenge.
Neglected and dilapidated
This course looks like it’s been abandoned. Granted it’s a municipal course, it’s unfair to expect the world from a municipal course. But holy moly this course is really dilapidated. Tee boxes are patchy, some are just mud. Tons of overgrown grass means I lost many golf balls in the rough, even though I could see where it landed. The cart path was so bumpy that I nearly lost control of my cart like 5 times, and nearly got tossed out just because of how extreme the bumps were. Pace of play was horrendous, I was either waiting 7 minutes for the person in front of me to hit, or playing really really really quickly, I was not able to really take any time with my shots. Finally: the greens. They were way overgrown and looked horrible, maybe they just weren’t mowed that day but they were in horrible shape. So many bumps, hole marks, and dips made putting an utter crapshoot. The positive were that it was a tricky and creative layout, staff were friendly, and it was cheap. It’s a real shame because if more money and resources were invested properly into this course, it could be quite fun. Unfortunately for now it continues to be neglected by the city.
Public Course
The greens were terrible. They were airlified 2 weeks prior. They hadn't been mowed for days. There were large barespots. The greens should be torn up and redone. Fairways weren't bad but weren't cut. Tee boxes were bad. Received a $20 voucher for return play within the month which was nice but course needs some money to be invested in it to make it playable. The course has a lot of potential. I wish they would replace the greens like C T Myers and make it and enjoyable course.
greens were in terrible condition. they were being turned over with seed and sand
The Greens
Fairways were in great shape and the rough made it a challenge. The greens were unfortunately in very poor shape. They need a lot of work. Tee boxes could use some attention as well.

Played HLJ for the first time in many years. They have a new fleet of gas carts since I was last on site in February. The course conditions varied widely. The bermuda fairways were actually some of the best I've played all year. Teeboxes were in good shape with just isolated issues here and there. Greens were in poor shape. Bare spots and weeds were prevalent on most if not all of the greens. They really need to be redone with more hearty bermuda grass. Bunkers were in good shape. The rough was lush and thick. Balls hit offline were easily lost. Our group would often find 2-3 balls each while searching for one of our balls in the rough. Cart paths need major work, as they are not passable on some holes.
The layout of the course features several doglegs or blind driving holes where course knowledge is a huge help. There aren't many water hazards to navigate, and only a small amount of elevation change.
Hopefully Ratcliffe Golf Services is investing into bringing this course up to par with some of their others in the Charlotte area, as it has potential to be a great layout.
Good
It’s was a decent course, 33 for 18 is not a bad deal at all. It’s Covid sn right now so things are weird but the course was ok. Cart paths are bumpy and need work. Half the greens are bumpy with sand and dirt spots so putting it difficult but for some guys to go have fun it was a good time.
Several challenging holes
Good public course. Challenging holes where some are blind shots which was great fun. The first 9 holes had great greens and back 9 some were under repair.
