February Golf
Had a great day! Course was in very good condition for Feb. 24th. Greens were challenging and the wind made it a true test. Can't wait to play here again. Employee in pro shop was great! Thanks for the water hook-up.
Long, but excellent course! Great condition for end of Feb.
First time playing course and pleasantly surprised course was in such good condition for end of Feb. Looking forward to playing in the spring/summer.
Great Value
This unique little gem set between the Steel belt capital of the world and West Virginia is s test for any handicap. This layout has tested golfers from USGA Open qualifiers, to the Senior Tours. It is a PGA Tour quality course that any golfer in this area should have on their bucket list. The layout comprises beautiful views, dangerous bunkers and great rewards for playing smart. It can and will bare is teeth if one tries the mythical miracle shot. A bogey can quickly become a snowman. Driving range is closed while roadway construction his on, but their practice green is large and has many undulations. Club house has nice locker rooms and showers. I always enjoy playing this course.
Uneven Tee Boxes
I have played over a thousand different golf courses for over twenty years. I normally give fairly good reviews for most of the courses I have played, but this course has a really serious issue with all of the tee boxes. None of the 18 tee boxes was flat and level. I am quite not sure they did that intentionally for drainage or something, but all of them were tiled forward and dome shaped. I don't understand why they could not make the tee boxes flat and level. Maybe there was no leveling tool at the time when the course was built. I would never go back to this course to play again even though the course conditions were excellent with a great course layout.
Challenging
What I Iove about this course is that it tests every part of you game no doubt top 5 course in western pa if not all of pa
Bunkers
Many well managed bunkers. Courses are also good. I specially recommend for a player who likes challenged course with many bunkers.
Bad Timing
Greens had not yet recovered from fall aeration - bumpy and slow on a very chilly morning.
Rough was long and wet - unfortunately, I was in there a lot - which slowed play as everyone searched for his ball.
Course layout is outstanding - great mix of challenges.
Staff, as always, friendly and efficient.
Still a very good challenge
I grew up in Pittsburgh before moving away in the mid 80's, and used to play this course when I was in high school. The tees, fairways and greens were in very good condition for a public course, and it remains a very strong challenge. We played in under four hours and enjoyed our day at Quicksilver.
Still The Best
No matter the season, this remains the best daily fee course within an hour of Pittsburgh. Period.
Even 48 hours after some heavy rains came through the area the greens are firm and PGA fast. The fairways are well manicured and the rough is fair but penal.
While the course used to host a Senior Tour event and an occasional US Open regional qualifier it remains more than worth your while.
Great Course & Value
The course was nowhere near its best as far as condition, but if you want a challenging course Quicksilver is always the way to go!!
Long Course
Very long holes, was pleased when i made it on in regulation .
Slower greens
This course is a staple for my buddy and me. We usually play it at least once a year due to the excellent greens and the course layout being able to be stretched out 6800 or 7000 yards. Course was a little dry but I don't know of anyone that would be surprised by that. Greens were a little slower than what I usually see at quicksilver but they were still smooth and at a good pace. Love this course and love it even better when I can get it for a steal in golfnow.com!
Excellent Course Value
Quicksilver is one of the finest public courses in the Pittsburgh area. It has a challenging layout with interesting greens. They keep the course in top condition and the $45 we paid to play mid day on Friday was an excellent value.
On top of it all, Jerry is one of the finest starters in the area.
Great Course tough greens
This was my first time playing this course, so not knowing the lines off the tee and not knowing pin positions made for a difficult round. However, if I was a local I would play this course regularly. The course is very scenic with tough greens. The 2 complaints I have about the course is the greens were too slow for the undulations of the green, which made difficult to lag putt. The other is not knowing what the pin positions were, the flags are the same color and there was not a pin position sheet in the cart. But like I said, had this not been my first time playing I would have had a better idea of where the pins were. Overall, I would love to play this course again knowing what I know now, especially with faster greens. I recommend this course to any intermediate or advanced golfer; you will love and respect the overall difficulty of the course. Also, if you can carry your drives at least 250+ play the blue or black tees.
Great Course!!
First time playing this course, and I was extremely impressed! Course was so well manicured and the greens were super fast with plenty of break. Great rate for such a beautiful golf course! Can't wait to go back to Pittsburgh.
Great course for a challenge
This course was in great shape and challenging. The greens were quick and the rough was thick. The only downside for this course was the GPS in the cart. For our group it was off most of the time. Also at the turn, there were 4 groups backed up which allowed for a long round. All in all, I will go back to visit this course again.
Very challenging course!
Played this course several times 25-30 years ago and loved the challenge then and now. A little too long from the white tees (6,510) for this 72 year old with a 16 handicap, but gold tees only play 5,109 and I felt too short for me. Prefer something closer to 6,000 yards! Enjoyed the round and I will return.
Rough was rough!
The course was in beautiful shape, greens fast, and the fairways excellent but the rough was way too high. Very difficult to advance the ball if you hit an errant shot. Otherwise a wonderful course!
About every 7 years......
About every seven years I give this place another chance. I obtained a huge discount, and played the course for $30. A good thing, because that's about all its worth. It just really lacks a lot of things. In fairness, the day was not so good because it had rained the night before and it was cart path only. Just not a plausible thing on this course. But, moreover, the greens were rough and more importantly, very inconsistent. You play two or three holes, get used to playing chips and high iron shots to bounce, and then one holds right in place and you have a 60 ft putt. There might have been a time when they actually put this course into decent enough shape, but the reality is there are way too many blind shots and the greens are simply of differing quality. A place to play, but may only every seven years....long enough to forget how inconsistent the greens are and how poor the layout of the course really is.
Great Layout
If you are looking to play a pro-style course, then you found it at Quicksilver. White tees are just about right for most golfers but they still have 2 sets further back. We played with 2 seniors and their tees were quite generous. Pace of play was a little slow only because the course was wet and it was cart path only. Not sure it had to be, but its their call. My main advice is to stay below the pin. The greens are fast and true!
Course is only worth $30? This course would be over $115 in Chicago, NYC or DC! While it may not be what it was when it hosted the senior tour it's still better than most and one of the best in the region! Conditions wise too.
