Brown fairways- fast greens
Great rate from golf now. Frost delay put the morning groups on the south course, leaving the west course wide open. Hard to see your white ball on the brown grass in the bright sunlight.
The greens ran fast and all the cups were not on flat ground. Very challenging. All in all, a very nice round
Only for a hot deal
I got a really cheap deal with Golf Now so I really didn't care that the course wasn't in the best of shape.
Greens were very fast (which I love) but the rest of the course was going into it's winter grass conditions.
There were many wet spots so not much roll if you hit into them. The course is long for a senior golfer but I did score well due to my short game. The greens didn't hold any balls, even those hit with a gap wedge.
I hope that when the new owners take over, that they improve the course and decrease the huge bunkers around most of the holes.
Love Etowah, but slow pace
Love playing Etowah, but the pace was much too slow. Our foursome was placed behind a twosome who were walking and a separate twosome on a cart. Both of them played so slowly, it was almost unbearable at times. Our round took 5.5 hours to play, and we just finished before the sun went down. Will definitely be back, because Etowah is a great course to get to play.
Good option to consider in Asheville (NC) area
(Writing this as a review for people playing the first time).
Very friendly staff. Pretty part of the country, of course, and some great vistas here. Played through some regulars who we also very nice and offered some tips.
Played the South then the West 9s at the 27 hole facility.
If you like dog-leg right holes, this is your place! Especially for the South nine. I don't recall any dog-leg lefts, but at least 7-8 to the right.
If you are a longer hitter off the tee (by that I mean you hit it 250+), you want to play from the back tees on the South, or just calm down on the tee and hit a shorter club and play target golf.
The West nine is a bit more practical, and open, off the tee.
Very quick greens, in good shape. The ball will hold on well-struck approach shots. big thumbs up on the greens!
Fairway conditions are just okay, but with a pretty good amount of slope, and it being November, that is understandable.
Overall, its an enjoyable, near-the-mountains type golf club and community. Its not going to win awards for design or conditions, but is a very playable and welcoming place in the Asheville area that has a lot to offer.
Beware of the white squirrel(s)!!!!
3 great courses to choose from
Well maintained greens and fairways for the price. Courteous staff.
Greens were the best thing about the course. Fairways were patchy in places, especially on the North side, but to be expected this time of the year. Nice local option to play if you find a good deal on golf now.
Etowah Valley
Course was what I expected considering the weather. Enjoyed my round. My one knock would be that I was charged more that my reservation confirmed. My reservation was for $39 for the round, but I was charged $45 at the course. Not a lot of money, but not what I was expecting.
Course was in good shape. It had rained the day before so it was cart path only but it went pretty well.
A nice layout at a fairly high elevation
I had played Etowah a few times in the past and always liked the layout. We have always been treated nicely there and enjoyed our day.
On this trip we found the course to be with mixed conditions. Greens, terrific. Fairways on the West Course, fair; fairways on North, poor to very poor. Mixed conditions of this nature tend to cause you to overstate the poor part and forget the great part. My suggestion is to play the fairways as lift, clean and place and I think you will have a good day.
The layout is a nice one. Some holes play very long and are very challenging. others demand precision approach shots.
The staff is terrific and I am sure you will enjoy your day.
Course was in good shape except for sand traps. More like gravel pits with huge hunks of stone in them. That was my only complaint with course
Wet, wet, wet
Not course fault, but cart path only! Very wet!
It happens!
Everyone was great!
Cart Paths Only -- To Wet For My Taste
Playing as a single and the first golfer out on the South Nine, I had no problems with pace of play on that nine. Things slowed down a bit on the North Nine as I got behind a slow foursome that struggled with the cart paths only rule that was truly necessary due to the soggy conditions. They let me play through after a couple of holes, and I finished my round in 3 hours 30 minutes. Not bad.
In my opinion, the South Nine was to wet for play. The North Nine only had one or two really wet places where water was standing above the soil. Most bunkers on both nines were water hazards, and many were severely eroded. All were unplayable. I used my ball retriever to get my ball from one particularly deep pond/bunker.
Greens were in good shape.
On-course amenities (drinking water, restrooms, etc.) are not up to par for a resort course. The restaurant and pro shop definitely are!
Watch for the white squirrels!
If I get a really good rate, I'd tee it up here again; otherwise, there are many local options.
Nice course
It was cart path only due to the weather so the pace of play was a bit slow. There was a juniors tourney in front of us so that didn't help things at hole 15. We were able to go to another part of the course with a separate 9 hole section, there was not a person in sight. Fantastic... played a total of 23 holes for the price of 18. Great course:)
Great place to play.
I love the course. The normal rack rate ($40 plus) is a bit steep but I'd play there anytime if it's around $30. Many tee box's, surely one fits your game. Each nine has a different feel, from flat to elevation changes. Need to move the ball left and right to score well. BIG greens, but they were rolling great!
Very nice layout
Excellent greens, nice fairways, but the rough is deep and can be difficult. Don't know who designed the course but a very nice layout. Very much like a Donald Ross course for me.
The price is fair and you can see that the new owners are continuing to make it better. Played the West/South courses.
