The Challenge Golf Club
About
Challenge Golf Club sprawls across a scenic stretch of rolling farmland that sits alongside the Haw River. The lush hills are accented with mature hardwood forests, providing a scenic setting for a round of golf. The hilly terrain on this golf course will test not only your shot-making abilities but also your accuracy. Lakes provide even more natural hazards. Golfers can expect a few perilous carries over water. To add to the layout's difficulty, there are numerous bunkers strategically placed along the greens. The golf course is arguably one of the area's most formidable tests. Although thoughtful strategy and creative shot making will be generously rewarded, it’s not an overly punishing layout. Challenge Golf Club's final hole is a memorable par 5 that's definitely tough, but if you play it smart it could also be a great birdie opportunity.

Par three, 16th green Birdie was made Photo submitted by Geno7176732 on 10/15/2017
The name says it all
This course is fun but challenging like it's name. Fairways are good and greens doing ok but getting some bare spots. Good BLT at the turn. For the price it's hard to beat!
5 star layout, 3 star conditions but improving
Great course layout, makes you think your way around it. Course suffered significant winter kill, greens are recovering (80% grass), tee boxes still need a lot of work. Fairways in good condition but
dry, need water. Golfnow price of $25 is fair for the
conditions as of July 4, 2018.
Worth the drive
A fun layout with a variety of holes. Some elevation changes is a nice change from a lot of local courses. Too much difference in yardage from white (5700 )to blue (6400) so play a mix. Several Front 9 greens still need some work but work is being done. Fairways and bunkers in good condition. Speed of greens was about 10 which was great.
Winter kill of some greens
Winter kill strikes again. Several greens were in bad shape. Remaining greens were fine. Extremely wet around damaged greens due to watering, made playing difficult.
What a disaster- wish they would have told me before making the trip
I booked on golf advisor and the course did not note that the greens are a wreck! I drove 45 minutes to play the course and all but a few of the greens were totally dead, no grass and covered in the plugs they pulled out of the greens. Simply unplayable, no wonder the place was a almost empty. . Very unhappy with the fact they didn’t make a note of the terrible state of the greens.
Great value, wonderful staff, perfect weather
The Challenge is always a fun course to play. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and professional, especially Andrew in the pro shop.
The value was terrific, $13.59 on Golf Now with a Hot Deal, plus my $10 certificate redemption.
Condition was spotty, due to a winterkill, which has affected several courses in the area. **NOTE: The Challenge should have pristine conditions, according to management, in one month. ** I look forward to playing there later this summer.
Several scenic holes provide excellent photography opportunities.
The Challenge is aptly named. You must be accurate with all shots, using most clubs in the bag.
Pace of play was 3 1/2 hours for 18 holes on a Thursday, going out by myself.
The clubhouse and pro shop are top notch, first class.
I would definitely recommend The Challenge at Hideaway Farm to everyone.
Thank you.

The Challenge at Hideaway Farm is always fun, providing challenge, value, and friendly staff.

The value was great, with a Golf Now Hot Deal plus $10 certificate redemption for a $13.59 green fee.

Several scenic holes that create excellent photo opportunities.
The clubhouse and pro shop are top notch.
I would definitely recommend The Challenge at Hideaway Farms to everyone.
Thank you.
Worst conditions ever n only nine holes were open
Went out to The Challenge on my only day off book it through GolfNow wasn't told the front nine was not open the greens were deplorable staff was rude and I only played 9 holes and paid for 18 it would take me two free rounds to go back and play that course again I wouldn't recommend it to a cow it wasn't enough grass on it
Not bad for the money, but greens need work!
This is an interesting public course with a friendly staff and a nice clubhouse. About half of the greens were severely damaged by winter weather and need a lot of work. I played 18 with cart for $23 on a weekend. It’s a good value for the money and pace of play was very reasonable, probably beacause of all of the recent rain, people stayed away. However despite strong storms the whole week before, course was well drained and Cart rule at 90 degrees. I would play again, but might wait until those greens are fixed.
Great Layout.BUT
3rd time playing this course this year..the layout is great but that's all I can say nice about the course,,the greens are mostly dirt and so are the tee boxes.i thought it would get better as the weather improved,,boy was I wrong..they need to shut it down and REDO the whole course
Nice. but could be better
Overall, I enjoyed the course. Many of the greens were horrible. No shower facilities at an otherwise decent club. lay got backed up pretty quickly; but I still enjoyed the course and would go back.
Terrible shape!!
The brand greens are terrible.
Something is killing them real bad. Greens are so bad i feel bad for them.
Also the course is all mid and around the greens os horrible. I hope they can fix it.
Worst greens ive played in years
Greens and Bunkers need a lot of work
The greens were in poor condition, and many of the bunkers could use some repair. I'm not sure if it was because of a late spring frost, but you don't want to see greens in poor condition. The staff was very friendly.
The challenge
my concerns are the greens they could’ve been in better condition ,
Painted Greens
I like the layout just wish there was grass in the fairway and on the greens.Got behind 2 jerks the last 4holes.There was work being done on the course.I'll wait until it grows in before I go back.
WTF
Great staff with friendly services. This course has the perfect layout to be a championship caliber venue. Needless to say it’s so far gone I’m not sure why this place is even open. No sand in the bunkers, 90% painted dirt and 10% grass on greens, bone dry, 100 yards from all holes is like hitting off the pavement. No driving range. If your going to warm up, do so prior to arrival. A net and mats are your only option here. Lots of time and money needs to be invested to make this course last. Very disappointed especially with the false advertisement on their website.
Wishful Thinking
This track COULD be a championship caliber course. The layout is fantastic and offers an excellent challenge. Unfortunately course maintenance seems to be the biggest downfall. 1 green out of 18 was able to be putt on. The rest are literally destroyed. It is bone dry and there is little to no sand it any of the sand traps. The collar on most holes is all dirt leading to greens. Top dressing covers all tee boxes. Disease and lack of course management has claimed the challenge as its victim. If you want to warm up, do so prior to arrival. No driving range. 20 foot wide by 10 foot high net to hit in off mats only. A little time, money, and help and this could literally be a gem.
Deserves its name!
This course deserves the name and is a real Challenge with its rolling fairways and greens. The Bermuda greens and fairways really showed signs of the rough winter and soggy spring. The course is working hard to get them back with reseeding, which made them hard to read as well. Would love to play when the are in full repair. The pro shop staff were awesome and informative.
Wait, not yet
Many of the greens are still growing and are in rough shape currently. Give the golf course another month, maybe 2 and you will love it! Right now however it simply needs a little more time..
Don’t waste your money
This course was in horrific condition... fairways were yellow, and dead. Greens were unplayable (and dirt painted green to make it look better).
There is zero drainage, so mud was everywhere. Worst of all, the ball cleaners at the tee boxes were bone dry. Other courses in The area have had the same amount of rain, but are playable and enjoyable.
We played this course in the summer of 2017, and the clubhouse told us they were replacing the greens, well nothing has changed. Don’t waste your money here
