The Challenge Golf Club
About
Challenge Golf Club sprawls across a scenic stretch of rolling farmland that sits alongside the Haw River. The lush hills are accented with mature hardwood forests, providing a scenic setting for a round of golf. The hilly terrain on this golf course will test not only your shot-making abilities but also your accuracy. Lakes provide even more natural hazards. Golfers can expect a few perilous carries over water. To add to the layout's difficulty, there are numerous bunkers strategically placed along the greens. The golf course is arguably one of the area's most formidable tests. Although thoughtful strategy and creative shot making will be generously rewarded, it’s not an overly punishing layout. Challenge Golf Club's final hole is a memorable par 5 that's definitely tough, but if you play it smart it could also be a great birdie opportunity.

very tough
enjoyed as always, course in great condition. bring spare balls
Course is in great shape
I played the Challenge about two months ago and the greens were in rough shape but they have recovered nicely. Several holes live up to the name requiring strategic shot selection with well-placed bunkers and water. Fun track to play if you don't get too frustrated!
Great layout good shape great value.
Played my fourth round there on Sunday. Just moved here in June. Love this course wish it was closer to my home. But well worth the 40 min drive
The Challenge
The course and greens are in excellent condition. We played on a Monday morning and the course was nearly empty. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They only have a driving net to practice you shots before the round (no driving range) but the shape of the course makes up for that. If this course was closer to our home we would play there all the time. A note in case you were going to get coffee or a breakfast item before your round. The snack bar didn’t open until later in the morning so don’t expect to get something before an early morning round.
good course condition
green is little bit slower than I expected but pretty nice. other than that perpect
Pleasantly surprised
Having played a few other courses in the area in the $30-$40 range and been mildly disappointed, I was pleasantly surprised with The Challenge.
The course is in great condition, especially the greens roll very well. It's not the longest course but so much fun to play.
There's a bit of a learning curve the first time you play it (like me), but it just makes me want to go back.
The course is back!
The greens are beautiful and rolling true, while the fairways and roughs were in great shape. They even cleared some trees, making the views much more panoramic. I played here early spring and was disappointed with the condition of the course, but they are back in a big way. Much better than last summer, yes (when they had just replaced the greens).
Very nice greens
The conditions of this course are the nicest of 10 I have played this Summer. The greens were simply amazing.
Course is in great shape
The course is in great shape. Greens are rolling true. Definitely worth he money.
Great Improvement!
Played this course in early spring and was disappointed. Now they have brought it back to a really premier course for the area! Great Job!
Challenge !
Nice course !
Great variety of holes , greens in great condition.
No driving range though
Making a comeback
Ok. Today was a beautiful day. After a solid week of work, I just needed to play golf, but don't want to pay an arm or a leg on a weekend rate, especially not on a teacher's salary. Saw a great rate on Golfnow for the Challenge GC. After reading the most recent negative reviews, I almost just scrapped the plan of playing golf today. Glad I didn't!
Started at 12:02 finished at 4:09 in a three some. It could have been faster had we not run into groups of foursome the last three holes, but we didn't mind. Beautiful day! THE COURSE WAS IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. THE GREENS WERE ROLLING FINE (MORE THAN FINE!). I don't know what the negativity was all about--greens, fairways, conditions etc. were better than expected. Kudos to the ground staff there.
I have played Eagles Ridge, Loonie Poole, UNC Finley, the Crossings, Bryan Park GC in August. I would go back to all those courses AND I would go back to the Challenge again if I have time to play again. If the greens were a major problem for previous reviewers, it is NOT anymore and the greens will get even better For those who remains skeptical, I hope you continue to stay away ( I am being sarcastic now), it just means I get to come back to the Challenge, have the course to myself, and play three and a half hour round on this challenging track that will continue to get better as the weather cools.
Good job to the staff at the Challenge for making the course beautiful again. I am a 12-13 handicapper. I was so surprised and inspired by the terrific condition of the course that I shot a 39 front nine with an eagle and a birdie in it. Should have broken 80 but didn't! Oh well. Will see you again.
Looking good...
I've read some negative reviews and was somewhat nervous about playing here. Grabbed a nice Hot Deal, froze a Powerade, splashed on the sunscreen and made the trip. Totally worth it! I've played here a few times in the last 10 years and have always enjoyed the layout. Conditions were not pristine but still very playable. Fairways were green and growing well and the ball sat up nicely. The greens were recently sanded but I did not notice many bad spots and they rolled true.
Don't hesitate to play here. It's all coming along nicely and I applaud their work.
this was my worst disapointing round of golf in recent years. I played this golf course a couple of months ago and the greens were not even puttable. they sais anybody around here with bermuda greens had the same problem. I play other golf courses in the area with bermuda that didnt have that problem so that was a excuse for nor covering them properly. I called one week before I booked this tee time to ask about the greens and they said they were great and have not had a complaint in 2 weeks. So I took their word for it. That was a lie. These greens are terrible. I cant imagine them being worth playing the rest of this year. If I just took a chance, shame on me. But being lied to shame on them
Fairways were in good shape for the most part. The greens went from really good to no green at all. The course looks to be suffering from winter kill and even though it is July, I doubt that it will recover this year.
Good Course layout, summertime conditions
The course is well laid out and has a lot of elevation changes. Nice variety of holes, both in layout and length. It is a strategic design and you will have to "golf your ball" to get around the course. It is not a grip and rip type course.
It's July and some of the greens are suffering, but that's to be expected in North Carolina at this time of the year.
Played here in July and August.
Overall the course us in very good condition. The name CHALLENGE is very fitting. The fairways are in very good condition. The greens have recovered from the winter kill.
Pro shop staff is friendly and warm. Clobhouse good is good and they have a good choice of beverages.
