Nice Course, Poor Maintenance
Southwick is a fun course to play but the management does little to enforce tee times or do anything other than mow the course. The 11th hole inexplicably has a ditch running through the middle of the fairway/landing area which sucks in good tee shots. The course should spend the money to put in culverts or mark the area as a hazard (note the ditch cannot be seen from the tee box). Other tee box markers are on the ground and the traps have sand that is not raked so like playing off asphalt.
Improvements Noted
Myself and a group play Southwick approximately once every six weeks or so. Had been a while due to winter weather so we were pleasantly surprised to discover much-needed new golf carts. The clubhouse itself seemed spruced up and the course was in good condition for February except for hole #11. This hole has a drainage issue and despite attempts by the course to mitigate the soggy conditions, it is still a mess.
Always Fun
Enjoy playing Southwick periodically because of the challenging layout and reasonable price. The drainage is bad however, especially on hole #11. A perfect drive can be lost due to the inexplicable drainage ditch in the middle of the fairway.
Always Fun
Though the weather was nice (overcast, not hot), the course was soggy. Southwick is not overly concerned with driving carts over wet fairways, so that was helpful. The course is fun to play but could use some maintenance upgrades (carts filthy, debris around the course, etc.).
Great course for the price
This was the first time I have played this course. It was a bit challenging. The elevation changes add to the challenge, but if you know your distances you will be fine. The greens were receptive and even though they seemed wet from daily watering the ball still rolled quite smooth. I would definitely play again and recommend to others.
Good deal, but needs attention
Play Southwick 10-12 times per year because of the low cost and challenging holes. Played after Christmas on a cool day when the course was soggy in several places. No issue with the conditions, but the management of the course could use some effort. All the carts were dirty and not cleaned out. The 10th hole has perpetual drainage issues in the fairway that need addressed. The two tee shots in our foursome that landed in the middle of the fairway could not be found. A drainage ditch through the middle of the fairway (that is also invisible from the tee boxes) does not solve the issue and actually punishes good tee shots. A course always worth playing, but some course TLC would be helpful.
Always a Bargin
Play Southwick an average of once a month. Nothing fancy about the course, but it is inexpensive and has some challenging holes. Great golf course to go play with you buddies.
Great Value Course
A challenging course that is inexpensive and fun to play. No dress code, just play golf. Worth a visit but downsides are course conditions and tendency to allow walk in's to go ahead of tee times
It's okay.
Bumpy cart paths and fairways. Poor green quality but it is winter. The club house girls are hot but not friendly. Will play again in the spring to see if conditions improve.
Never again on Monday, Wednesday or Friday
Due to the 5 and 6 somes of Senior play, this day was unbearable. I had to jump around to get in 13 holes of golf in (4.5 hours) due to the slow play and over booking. I found out midway through the round that Seniors are present on M, W, and Friday. Now, I have nothing against Seniors, I am one myself however, when the groups SWELL to 5 or 6 players well, you know the outcome. Look for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please bring back Sourwood.
Southwick
Great course away from Chapel Hill where I live. Expected less of a course than it was especially for the price. Short course with a great many unique hole layouts. Might be viewed as a lesser course by the long bombers, but for most amateurs especially seniors or beginners, I think it is fantastic. Really enjoyed it and will certainly return. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways were average viewing it is getting on into winter. A lot of leaves in roughs and away from fairways. Greens were great. A lot of breaks and fast, something I enjoy. Need to stay below the hole if possible. Never played here before so this was a challenge especially since there were many elevated greens. A few were hit with some sort of blight, but were kept well and decent to putt. All the rest were excellent. Not much in the way of clubhouse amenities if you are the type to sit around and hoist a few after the round and embellish your great shots.
Very good layout !
Play this course especially if you're a beginner they are good people there too to take care of all your needs .

How were the course conditions?
Best Round Ever
I was happy with the course. Plus it helped that I shot the best round of golf ever.
Beautiful Scenery and Good Value
The front nine is a great run for beginners. Three nice par 3's but also a long hole or two. Even then, there are some big elevation changes to test you a bit. Two of the par 3's are to elevated greens. Course is set in rolling hills with trees and pretty views. Some water, and ponds are unusually beautiful with flowers, frogs etc. Extremely friendly staff. There are some negatives. There is no water on the course, so bring enough. There are not enough ball washers. Greens were too soft. No practice area save for a putting green, though they do allow chipping onto the putting green. These might often be enough to go down to three stars for an otherwise nice golf course, but given the extremely modest green fees and friendly staff, I think it earns four. In reference to one of the other reviews, there was no sign of any smells while we were there. Another plus, this course has visible, well-maintained yardage markers, another help for the beginning player, and a bit unusual. Even some nicer courses are letting these go, I guess on the assumption that most players have some sort of range finding device nowadays.
Hole referenced in review with drainage problems should be 11 vice 10.
