Olde Point Golf & Country Club

About
Olde Point Golf & Country Club sprawls across a rolling landscape covered with mature trees, sparkling blue lakes, and meandering streams. Native vegetation is abundant across the gentle hills. It is a course that is both scenic and challenging. Built in 1975, it opened to the public a year later although members enjoy guaranteed tee times. The many water features all over the course come into play frequently and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the greens. The doglegs are no easy feat either. From the championship tees, the golf course is a formidable test that requires well placed shots but the three other tees provide a gentler game that is more approachable for beginners. In addition to the golf course, Olde Point also has a grass driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

Lots of work but layout is good
About 12 greens had a couple small bare patches, all had their bumps. Areas around the greens less than 2 yds off were good and playable and they left their rough grow so the bermuda was thick. Off the fairways though you would have horrible bare lies. Off the greens more than a couple yards you were hitting out of patchy dirt spots. I cant blame it on a drought after much rain because this place has great potnetial and was really good 5 years ago. Tee boxes were horrific. Ironclad a mile down the road has better of all 3. Olde pointe is more open but ironclad is a little tighter with better amenities.
Right now dont pay more than $35.
If you golf for nice staff then you’re good to go
Course maintenance was worse than a $30 for fun course in Leland. Do not pay $44 to put on dirt greens
Not what it Used to be
We've been coming to Topsail Island for nearly 20 years, and this round was one of the worst ever. The course is in the worst shape I have ever seen it. Reminds me of Topsail Green right before they shut down. Tee boxes were hardly mowed, fairways were patchy at best, and the greens were so over grown, you could barely putt on them.
If you're fighting disease or coming back from major flooding issues, let players know and slash greens fees, until the problem is fixed. We as players can understand that, and respect the upfront honesty. Very disappointing for a course we've really enjoyed played for years. We would love to come during future visits, but most likely will not after this round.
The new carts and GPS system are great. Maybe should have spent that money on course maintenance, though.
Terrible
Greens were slow, needed cut, tee boxes were awful and had knee high grass in places & fairways needed mowed desperately. Greens were by far the worst I’ve saw, dead spots which is normal in hot conditions but you could kill the ball and it still would end up short
Mowers needed
Not maintained, the mowers were certainly broken. Mowers for all surfaces were broken. Greens were at best 70’s shag carpet, weeds and overgrowth everywhere else…. It could be worth a play if maintained.
Great goat track, but asking beach prices…
I’d avoid and spend the extra $ and play North Shore.
Do not suggest unless changes happen
Greens were absolutely horrible. Most were slow because of the length of the cut, to the point that very few putts rolled true. Some greens were half dead, that was somewhat understandable based on recent rain and supposedly the irrigation system had been out. Tee boxes were pathetic. Some had hardly and grass, but mostly they had grass as tall as the rough.
Rip off!!!
Not an enjoyable course to play. Greens bounce like I’m putting on asphalt, but still somehow have the speed of a 70s shag carpet. Many suspect tee boxes/ fairways are miles off the premier courses in the area. Practice facilities are mediocre at best, no problems with the staff/checkin experience and have heard the restaurant makes some good meals but other than that it’s a flop
Not worth it at all
The only plus for this course is that the new carts have a GPS screen that is also Bluetooth. It was cool to see the layout of each hole via flyover and be able to track distances each shot with the cart.
Our tee time was double booked and pro shop just said “whenever you see an opening, go ahead”. Which was exactly what the 7 other groups were doing resulting in a ridiculously slow pace of play.
The course itself may have been the worst course I’ve ever played. The green and fairways looked the same. Greens were so high and dry that there was never a break on any putt and you had to crush it to get it to the hole. Multiple tee boxes had grass growing over them so high they were difficult to see. I would give the course a 0/10 if I would. A “special” on Golf Now for $37 was about $57 too much. They should be paying people to play here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
This course was NOT in very good condition!
I was very disappointed with the overall condition. Tee boxes were bad. Fairways needed cosmetic attention and the greens needed mowing. The price is fair. After driving 1.5 hours, it was not a good deal for my son and me.
Best in Hampstead
Great course with awesome food at reasonable prices
Grees are terrible
I would not play this course again primarily because the greens are like golfing on the moon with small craters all over the surface. The layout is okay and the fairways do have some bare areas, but don't waste your time and money here unless you're trying to raise your handicap.
Greens need work
The fairways are decent and the pace of play was nice but the greens were in bad shape. They are super bumpy and after a while we just gave up on putting inside 5ft due to the conditions.
Driving range was no open as well which always makes the 1st few holes difficult.
Olde ( doesn’t get the ) Point
Really, really bad greens….Saturday at noon…had several groups of college kids tee off before us…we teed off 20 mins after our scheduled tee time…..looked like none of them had ever played before….played 3 1/2 holes in an hour and a half….drove off course…...asked for a 9 hole refund…she “ couldn’t “ because we paid on line…..greens are literally like putting in your back yard….i will never ever go there again…..
Course Conditions
Staff was very helpful, friendly and accommodating but condition of course very bad. Little to no grass in fairways or tee boxes and greens were very bumpy and almost unplayable. Owner says summer grass hasn’t come in and weather is to blame. However, I have played other courses in area experiencing same weather and none of the greens were as bad as at Olde Point. Was looking forward to playing there but very disappointed. It’s pretty obvious that course needs lots of attention.
