Wildwood Green Golf Course

About
Wildwood Green Golf Club in northern Raleigh was designed with players of all skill levels in mind, Opened in 1986, the classic layout underwent a major renovation 10 years later that made it into a challenging but playable test that welcomes everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. Generous landing areas offer some room for error off of the tee and the greens are large and inviting. There are still plenty of trees and sand traps to keep the layout interesting though. Accuracy and careful pin placement are also required to handle Wildwood Green's subtle elevation changes. The golf course finishes with one of its most difficult holes. This par 4 is a slight dogleg right with Carolina pines bordering the right edge as well as a bunker to the left. The approach is an uphill, blind shot to a deep and undulated green.

Excellent Greens
Best condition I've seen the greens in 5 years...not overly fast, very true, smooth roll.
New sand in some of the bunkers is very good...some players could learn to use the rakes. Go play WG before the leaves fall!
Excellent Greens
Greens were really true and quite quick if you got above the hole. Fairways are in good condition, rough is manageable but a lot of hard pan near the woods on #9 and 16. As is generally the story at WG, the pace of play can get brutal.....we waited an easy 25 minutes for the group ahead of us. Two groups quit after 14 holes because it got so slow. Good course, they just need to get people moving!!!!!
Very Good Conditions - Very Slow Pace
Conditions very good all round. Greens are fast and firm, fairways in good shape. Bunkers were sloppy, but it was late in the day. Use a rake, people.
Front nine pace was 2 1/2 hours. Group ahead had almost two open holes in front of them. No sign of a marshall. Fortunate that they quit after nine.
Great value for Raleigh
Out of the courses available in Raleigh this one is on the nicer end. As well it is similar price to many of the other courses which don’t have the same quality.
$8 range balls (20) balls
Nice layout challenging course. Pace of play in afternoon was horrendous almost 5 hrs. Not a ranger insight moving players along. Tee boxes with multiple foursomea waiting. But the worse part was the highway robbery from the clubhouse. $8 for small bucket of range balls no more than 20 balls in there totally unacceptable
Greens Healing Well
Only got a few holes in before the course was closed due to lightning - got an 18-hole rain check, which was much appreciated.
Just a couple of weeks after aeration, but the greens are healing well.
Great course, got rained out but got a rain check for the back even though it was a twilight round. Will definitely be back!
Pace of play was slow and 3 of my 4some left after 9.
Staff/starter/cart kids seemed arrogant and unwelcoming.
Needs better discipline. Members on the other hand were very welcoming and a nice change of pace to talk to.
Firm & Fast With a Mix of Good & Bad Manners
Late Saturday afternoon tee time. Ended up a single behind a foursome, but still finished the front in around 2 hours. Ended up joining with them (good guys) on the back when they lost one at the turn.
Course is in mid-summer shape - very firm and fast. Greens are still really nice. Most of the tees are rock hard - I might bring a hammer next time.
BAD manners from someone hitting into the green on #13 BEFORE we even left the green. Then a group of teens jumped in front of us on 14 tee. What's the rush?
