Bare fairways
The carts and greens are the only bright spots. Fringes and fairways were mostly dirt. You can see that they are working on the course, but it needs a lot. I only played due to $23 hot deal; this and Pinetuck are neck and neck for worst course in the County. Club House is from the 50's with no updates.
greens in good shape
Greens are in good shape but they are all on hills. The ball will roll backwards on many greens. Hole 7 the pin was in the back and it would either roll back 50 yards or you’d be off the back of the green.
It’s was March
For the time of year, the courses in great Shape. The grounds crew was out planning new trees, and cutting down dead branches. The greens are in good shape and cut. They weren’t using all the tees to let grass grow. Definitely of course I like to play later in the year, now that I know the layout.
The best parts of the course were the sand traps. Luckily, I only had to visit a few up close. The sand was plentiful and pure. The greens were in good shape. I only saw one that had some repair being performed. Unfortunately, the greens were extremely slow. It appeared that they had not been cut for a while. But they did roll well for the speed they provided. The tee boxes were in good shape. The fairways were the biggest disappointment. There were areas where grass (although dormant) was difficult to find.
Spring Lake CC
Course was in decent condition, was a little dry and fairways were not the greatest. Greens were in good shape. Carts are in great shape. Recently mowed rough. Overall was a good day and will return to play again shortly.
Great design
Great value if you’re not a course snob. Designer consistently put his stamp on the greens in particular. Very large but they look small from the fairways/tee boxes. Slow greens. Pay attention to the signs or you may get lost finding the next tee box.
Better than expected
I have avoided playing this course all summer based on the history of the conditions. i was pleasantly surprised at the shape the course was in today. You can tell they have been working on improvement. Still a lot of work to do, but the greens rolled pretty nice... the fairways actually had burmuda and not just weeds and fescue.... the bunkers were very playable. Most of the tee boxes were fine... the have a few temp tee boxes because they are trying to repair the actual tee box. I would rate this course a solid 7...... its no "country club", but definitely a nice place to play and is an average golf course.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Best place to play for me outside of Charlotte. Not too far from the house, and the course gives you old school vibes with the clubhouse, but you start off with a dog leg right par 5 over water from the jump, then a downhill 200 yd par 3 next hole. The back 9 is pretty open and Hole 13 at almost 550 yds or so makes you want to pull your hair our (if you have any lol). But I keep coming back because of the price, the challenges I face on the holes and its never really super packed, so the pace of play is pretty fair out there.
Good value
We really enjoyed this course. It was in very good shape with a good mix of easy and challenging holes. The clubhouse area needs some repair. We would certainly play this course again.
I’ve seen the course in better condition
Greens were very slow. Pace of play was slow due to the course allowing 6 groups of women to play captains choice starting right before our 9 am tee time. The round took 5 1/2 hrs to play. The golf shop should have informed Golf now of this group playing I would have booked a different time.
