Bad greens..
Bad Greens. if you like playing on Bald dormanet grees this will work for you. Heck of a price break ,just not worth the time.
Mud Greens
Rock hard course grounds, thin glass, Green 70% mud that has been rolled? What grass clumps that are on the green deflect you roll. But for $10 w/cart it is more fun then going to the driving range.
Sand traps have no sand in them just soft dirt.
Beginners course
The main reason I played such an inexpensive course was because I have a 12 year old that is wanting to take up the game. The course is not in the best of shape and there isn't a marshal on the course to speed up play. Wait, there was a marshal that was driving around to visit with his friends. Saw groups of 5 playing out there as well. So many hackers out there. For the dollar amount paid it was worth it though. If you play be patient.
The Course Condition
Played the course yesterday and it was in really bad shape. There were cracks all over the ground from lack of watering, no sand in bunkers and the greens were very inconsistent and had many bald spots. I played it during our rains and the course was beautiful, but right now it's not worth playing.
This will eventually be a very nice course
The claims I read prior to going to Northcliffe are optimistic at best. SOMEDAY this is going to be a beautiful golf course. Unfortunately, the fairways are very very rough. The fairways are so rough that you had to drive the cart at slower than a walking pace on some holes. It bounced the heck out of my kidneys. The only course I have ever seen like this is Country Place in Houston. There are also some very large cracks in the ground that can swallow a golf ball and some of them are so deep that you won’t retrieve the ball. The greens are very bumpy. I almost instituted the 2-putt rule for my round. The 2-putt rule states that your second putt is always good. Go ahead and take a shot at the first putt, you might get lucky. If not, the second putt is good regardless of where it ends up. When the greens are so bad that putting is ridiculous I institute the 2-putt rule. The greens weren’t quite bad enough for the 2-putt rule. But they were close.
The bunkers need some serious work. There was virtually no sand in them. What little there was was as hard as concrete. It was almost impossible to hit a bunker shot that didn’t come screaming out of the bunker and fly the entire green. I’m a decent bunker player and I struggled to get the ball out and on the green anywhere. They need to invest in sand and ensure that the bunkers have SOME sand so that we can hit actual bunker shots. Right now it’s essentially like trying to pop a ball in the air to a close pin off of a sidewalk. That is no exaggeration.
Having said that, I actually like the course. I love the layout. There are some challenging holes. This course is not a pushover. Good mix of length and some holes have some elevation change to them. Some holes are really cool holes to play. Number 12 offers a shortcut by cutting the corner if you have the length. Fifteen is a very nice par-5 that requires a very long shot over a small lake if you are going to get home in two. If you layup, your third shot requires a delicate shot when the pin is back left. Sixteen is an odd hole. It almost forces you to just hit your tee shot into the trees and gamble that you don’t get snookered behind a tree. Going around via the fairway looks like the hole would much longer than the scorecard. It looks like you would have to layup with a short iron and have a very long second to an elevated green, something on the order of 200+ yards. Like I said, an odd hole. The front side also has some very nice holes. Some holes do require accuracy. If your tee shot strays, you usually are penalized.
Overall, I like this course. I will likely come back and play it again now that I have played it once and know more or less where to hit the ball. I recommend Nortcliffe Golf Course.
Great round
I really enjoy this course. The staff is great the price is right. The back 9 is little ruff. The back 9 really needs more water. Great course and I will be back.
Front 9 was emaculate back 9 torn up from drought
Greens were amazing all the way around the course, well maintained with amazing consistance. The front 9 was amazing with plush roughs and awesome fairways. Once we made the turn you could see the effects of the drought. Back 9 is on higher ground with out as much coverage from trees. The fairways were decent but the closure to the rough the larger the "craters" and as my son said "Canyons" that swallow your ball got. But for the price and issues mothernature gave them it was a great round of golf (no help from my lousy play) but I will be returning to this course soon.
Good price.
I came from L.A.
Take tee time throuh golf now.com.
Consider price not bad at all.
I would recommend to my friend.
Horrible experience
A friend and I played here for the first to try it out, and for the price. The clubhouse is very run down, and could use a remodel. The driving range could use some nets to protect the houses. If you are a long hitter, you cannot take anything longer than two or a three iron on the practice range, because it is so short. The fairways are atrocious. They were very hard and dry with massive cracks running to the middle of the fairways. The tee boxes were very tore up, and I have never seen greens in such bad shape. There were bare spots, and crab grass taking over the greens. We had to switch carts two separate times, because the batteries need to be replaced in all carts. With that said, the pace of play was very slow because the groups in front of us had the same issue with the carts. Until this course gets remodeled, I will never play there again.
Craters
The greens are not kept well at all, fairways are full of craters (actually lost 4 balls in the cracks), the roughs are vey very rough. I don't think they water this course but once a month. Too many old folks playing from yellow tees and hitting into folks ahead of them. I almost got hit twice. All in all $10 spent to practice, lose balls, almost get hit, and deal with terrible lies all day are not worth coming here anymore.
Fairways and Greens
The fairways are not in good shape. They are severely burned up and there are cracks in the ground everywhere that are big enough to lose a golf ball in. The greens have not been cut in quite sometime and are burnt as well. Even for the $30 GolfNow price it isn't good.
course needs attention
I play this course once a week. Not because its good, not because I play well...but because its the easiest place to get a tee time. I lost 3 balls in the cracks in the ground. The worst areas are 10 and 18. The greens all need serious help, which is funny, because last summer, the #13 green was completely re-done and it is now one of the worst greens on the course. There is some sort of fungus killing the greens, which could be treated with chemicals, and bring life back to them. And there is also crab grass growing on the greens, which makes it tough to make a putt. The tee-boxes are always tore up. It seems like there is little to no daily attention to the upkeep of the course. Many areas of cart path could be replaced, and the sand traps could all use a few truckloads of fresh sand, as they are all rock solid. The price is ok, maybe a little high for the condition of the course. The clubhouse/proshop could use a facelift, and the bathrooms are no better than a run down truckstop. If i had the money, i would buy the course and close it for repairs and TLC. I will continue to play there for the love of the game...not the course.
They charge people to play here?
All the reviews on here that talk about moguls and cracked earth and burnt greens are 100% right on. This course is a disaster right now. I mean at $20 I'll play just about anywhere, but I'd rather pay $40 to play somewhere I'll be hitting the majority of my shots off grass, not scarred dysotpian earth that threatens to swallow me, my cart, and my clubs, into its searing maw.
Northcliffe first and last time
The course grounds are rock solid dirt. Many of the places you could lose a ball in the crevices in the ground. I left with gauges in my club heads. Not to mention the staff friendliness was great when they thought I was paying 35 bucks a person, and quickly turned when he realized I booked in golf now for a much cheaper price. We went through three golf carts during the 18 holes from them dying out. Threatened with a 10,000 dollar fine for having a cooler with Gatorade. If you enjoy being threatened from the staff it's your place, if your like the rest of us you probably don't want to see play at Northcliffe. I almost forgot to include the owners will play right behind you and hit their balls right up on you, I had a ball bounce pass me in a putter shaft distance without a warning, and it was hit by the owner and a staff member.
Not a good course
The course was very hard and dry. There were cracks in the fairways also the greens wasn't up the par.there was a group in front of us playing really slow and wouldn't let anyone go around. I will not play here again. Waste of time and money.
Northcliffe golf
Grass needs to be cut& watered. tee box poor, greens horrible never played on acourse that horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This course is for the average hacker - more easy holes, a few challenging holes
Enjoyable course to play for the average person to get out for half a day
ok for the golf now price
Major cracks all over the course. Greens are very hairy.
OK conditions
Bunkers are bad, they are hard as a rock. Greens are ok. Understanding it's summer, they are at least playable. Pace of play was good for a Saturday. Overall fun day of golf.
