Texas Hard Pan
Was once my favorite course but last year they let it go and was in real bad shape. Took a chance and came back. To my surprise course much improved especially considering the lack of rain. Will be back soon.
Easy and well-maintained, but very dry
I had some extra time on a Wednesday so I booked a discounted tee time online, thinking that I would take a drive out to this course for novelty's sake. The course is fairly easy, though the back nine is tougher than the front. I'm playing in August, so the fairways are dry and burnt. I find this odd since the sand traps (more dirt than sand) were filled with water sitting from a lack of proper drainage. But fairways were groomed to the best they could be, considering the hot summer conditions. I would recommend that the course upgrade its irrigation system/schedule and beef up their fertilization/weeding program. All in all, this was a cheap date that I wouldn't mind repeating midweek. Played with some nice locals. Don't expect much at the clubhouse, though. This is muni course with limited resources.
Great prices, terrible service
Staff in the clubhouse too preoccupied counting money to greet customer, guy at cart pickup area stood over my shoulder as I loaded my bag into cart to make sure i wasn't "bringing any outside beer" in my ballpouch. Starter was not present at first tee box and then followed us to second tee box after our tee time had already passed to verify we had our tickets slowing our pace and letting another group pass. Upon return to put up cart same guy from earlier is making sure the balls we had in our cart weren't "range balls"-yeah because I really want your practice balls. Course was actually in pretty fair condition considering the admission rate but would gladly shell out a few extra dollars to not have to interact with the operators.
A little rough looking course but a fun layout.
This course needs some TLC but overall it is a good value for the money on GolfNow. It would be a really great course if the management could get the grass a little healthier. The par 3s are fun and the par 5s give some good scoring opportunities. The greens are very very slow.
A good bargain, decent course conditions considering area drought
Northcliffe turned out to be a pleasant surprise considering the price, $20 pp including cart, and the drought SA has had. The greens were smooth, if not fast and held pretty well for a good shot. Since I played only the front nine, I can't speak for the back, but it d be reasonable to expect the same. Also didn't partake of the libations or food, so don't really have an opinion, though there was a good crowd in the dining room. The only real issue I had was the pro shop was almost hotter than the outside and not conducive to browsing and as might be expected, the staff of one was if not rude somewhat aloof. But then so would anyone working there in that heat. Don't rent clubs unless you have to, they aren't very good or even matched for $15.00, which I think was way too high for what you get. Otherwise, you won't go wrong if you're looking for a bargain and don't mind not having some of the finer aspects a high quality course would have.
Cheap but slow play
A nice course, that is a little hard, but overall you get what you pay for. The food and beverage prices are actually normal. Staff is friendly.
Golf outing
Have played several times here. The last 2 times there is no food available for early tee times. Same excuse: Oh, my Breakfast taco guy didn't show up....
You will need a drill at the Tee boxes on 16 of the 18 holes. Horrible.
Other than that, all was good.
Food Vendor Change Only
This is the absolute best deal in San Antonio area for the money. Of course it has things that could be improved upon, however when you look at the cost, it’s a great deal. The people that work there very cordial and always friendly to work with. They are very accommodating in terms of getting you on the golf course. Do not change much, there are few courses you can walk onto after noon on the weekend and get on the course. If they start to add amenities then the price would go up and that is not good.
I would like to see a vendor offer better food options. A place to have drinks and get a burger would be nice...The current Asian cuisine is not very good and it does fit the atmosphere. It doesn’t have to be fancy but just a better bar and a decent burger...
great time
Went as a single. Was put with 3 great guys, awesome time
Good course to play
Good course to play for the money. The fairways are very close to one another. The back 9 has lots of trees to play around. The pace was slow due to slow golfers.
Great for beginners and experienced golfers
Great course that is challenging and setup well for any level golfer! The par 3s are mid range with a few twists to make it tough but playable. The par 5s give you a chance to make up strokes. The course has plenty of mature trees.
Marshall on a mission
This was my first time playing at the course, 7/9/14, and I knew I was in for a long day when this 6-some was playing in front of my group, each of them with a six pack. The course was in great condition, and the greens were true. Everyone we came across a marshal, they would inform us of things that we shouldn't do. When we would wait for our 6-some to tee off, we would seek shade under a tree, which could be a few feet off of the cart path, but the marshals said that we shouldn't be on the grass cause they were trying to grow the grass......we were on a patch of dirt.....the marshals kept hounding us on little things, but never addressed the pace of play of the other golfers.
Bad greens
Over the last few months the greens on the back 9 have been in really poor shape. Yesterday, after hitting my tee shot on one of the back 9 holes, we discovered that they had moved the hole onto the fairway and created a temporary green. Even the temporary green was in terrible shape. It was a joke. I never seen this before in my life. The staff didn't warn us about this and there was no signs warning of this. I won't be going back there for a while.
Long Hot Day
Very hot day on the course. Front 9 in much better shape than the back 9. Tournament going on and play was slow. Computers were down at check in but staff very friendly and let the starter know we did not have a receipt and all was good.
Much improved over last year
greens were generally in good shape. Took advantage of a $10 hot deal, with low expectations due to past experience. Course is in much better shape than in the past, new restaurant. Good time.
Worst treatment by staff member
Harassed by Marshall and ordered to return my cart prior to completion of our round during daylight hours. Worst of all my 12 and 8 year old junior golfers were present and we all had payed to play. Will never play this course again. Have never been treated in that manner in the hundreds of rounds I've played.
Ok course. Friendly staff
Greens are very slow and need some work. Fairways were good . Overall my son and I had a good time playing this course.
Fun course
Course was in good shape except 13th hole which was under reconstrustion
Good layout with few challenging holes
Was pleasantly surprised at how green the course was. Fairways were good, some rough areas on the back nine were bare and a about 5 greens had bare spots that affected your line, but the price was right.
Course has its challenges
When it rains there are some areas that get really muddy and stay muddy for days. Having a slice is only good on one hole.....so if you slice a lot you're in someone's back yard!!!! Greens are hard to read, they are very curvaceous...
