Red Wolf Golf Resort
About
There's no doubt Red Wolf Golf Resort is a Texas-themed facility, complete with holes named after the Harrington's bulls (they are providers of bulls for professional rodeos) and a Southwestern-styled clubhouse. As for the golf course, Jay Riviere's design has always been considered a fine layout. Take advantage of the easier front nine by scoring well on the opening holes. No. 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. It shoots through a narrow opening uphill into the sloped fairway. This one is mean -- it was formerly a par 5 -- and requires a long approach over a lake.

Doesn’t look bad in the picture but it is. Luckily there’s been a lot of rain. Give it a couple of weeks in this heat it will all be brown. Photo submitted by u480307563 on 08/06/2024

hidden gem
great place to play hidden gem i will definitely be coming back...only thing its the fall and the leaves were on the course a lot and if you weren't in the fair way it was hard to find your ball at time overall though pleasant day
Great Golf
Best bang for buck in Houston. Course is challenging and staff is great. Can't wait to go back!
Better shape than in the past but still needs a lot of work
Let me start out by saying I remember this course from the late 70s early 80s. It was a neat little hidden gem up in Huffman by the name of Lockshire to most of us. At some point it became Lake Houston Golf Club. Don't remember how many names since then. It was never crowded and always in pretty fair shape.
Fast forward to 2005 or so. It was a run down beat up golf course. Then Houston had the drought and the course became packed hard and the weeds were more prevalent than the grass. The course, as I said was just flat run down.
Played it today. It was in the best shape I have seen it in over 15 years but it still has a long way to go. For the most part, the greens were good and rolled true. Some of them had been sanded, some of them the grass was very thin and you could see lots of dirt. The fairways still have a lot of weeds and in some places the grass is very very thin.
Some of the tee boxes had very little grass on them while others were covered well. I think a lot of their grass issues has to do with the fact there are just a lot of trees around the greens and tee boxes and air circulation is an issue.
The course is fun to play. It has some great golf holes and the course has a lot of character.
Everyone working there is very friendly and helpful.
So, no, the course is not in the "best shape ever" . I remember when it was in much better shape. But, as I stated, it is in the best shape I have seen it in years. I wish them all the best and hope the weather is good to the golf course. Would love to see the course come back to the shape I remember it from years ago.
Thr course offers a fun and challenging experience
Great playing pace, very freindly personal. The course will challenge every level of experience player. Good value, enjoyed the dollar day hotdogs and drinks.
New favorite course in Houston area
Was not sure what to expect. This course far exceeded my expectations. Challenging course with good layout. Built in a subdivision but the houses are set back so you do not feel like yard about to hit into someone's backyard. Course was in great shape. Greens actually hold. Have to repair ball mark every hole. I played the whites. The Blues would have made it a different course (even better I suspect)
Can't say enough about the course. Staff very friendly. Hope this course continues to be maintained
My only complaint is the lack of yardage markers on the par 3's. I spent a long time looking for them and couldn't find them. And the tee boxes are very long so hard to guess.
If I did not live so far away I would play here every day.
Great Golf
Very nice course. Conditions great. Fariways and greens in outstanding shape. Overall experience a 10
In great shape!
Played Red Wolf for the first time in a few months. It was okay then, but GREAT now!!!
Course conditions blew me away. I always look at the condition of the sand traps to judge whether they maintain a course. Red Wolf's traps were as close to perfect as could be (based on the 5 traps I found myself in. Lol). Fairway traps not as god as those around greens, but better than those on a lot of other courses.
Fairways had a few bald spots, but less than before. I'm being picky. Rough didn't seem high, but more than a couple of times we had to be standing over a ball to find it. The rough will test you, but is not punitive.
Greens were very, very good. FAST. True. You have your work cut out for you on long putts.
Will be playing there more often now.
Nice course with great features
Greens hold very well
You can take a divot in the fairway without breaking your wrist.
Greens very well maintained groomed and roll nice
Overall very enjoyable place to play.
Good value for your money
Cart girl makes it nice
Good grill experience
Great layout of holes in wooded acreage make for available shade from the sun
As advertised
Arrived late for our tee time but friendly pro shop staff was very accommodating. Senior discount was offered and gladly accepted! Course conditions and pace of play made for an enjoyable round of golf. Red Wolf is a challenging golf course but fun to play. Look forward to playing again soon.
Great greens !
Had not been to Redwolf in a while. Greens are in great shape, the best I have ever seen them. Tuesdays and Thursdays are dollar beer, hot dogs and sodas. Overall, course conditions are the best in a long time. We were a foursome and there were quite a few twosome and singjes.
Hole 6
The course played very fast. The beer and food specials were good. They have gas powered carts which are a little quicker and seem to handle the terrain a bit better. We play this course at least 4-5 times a month. The only bad thing I can say is hole #6 has a tee box that is always bad but the greens are in great shape.
Harder than it looks
Nice course. Could not believe how affordable it was. Very challenging course. Narrow fairways and difficult pin positions. For mid August the course was in above average shape.
Yardage markers
this course needs to help its golfers with yardage markings, accurate ones, especially helpful on par 3s.having cdaddied in tour events and elite amature gtatherings the best players are rarely more than 10 or 12 paces from an accurate marking
Diamond in the Rough!!!!
We had a blast! Little far away but worth it! Can't wait til next time!
Very much improved
I haven't played this course in a year and I was very impressed on what good shape it was in. Even the greens were receptive.
Great Course
The fair ways were great, and greens were beautiful. Nice job to staff, grounds crew. Great job.
A good challenge
Greens are soft and receptive given the heat wave we currently have in the area.
Fairways are in good condition, just dont vear off into the rough or beyond.
COURSE CONDITIONS
green were better than average overall course in good shape
So good.
I was enjoying the beautiful views along the course.
