Best of what Central Virginia golf has to offer
Farmington is certainly one of the top courses in Central Virginia. The original designer took what the land gave him and made a great course out of it. The diversity of the holes is excellent in terms of elevation changes, doglegs, and length. You will never play the same club on a par three. The superintendent has made endless subtle improvements to the course over the last ten years. He deserves tremendous credit as you will find few courses in the condition that Farmington is in.
Holes 14 (view of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the tee box), 17 (great downhill par three), and 18 (great finishing hole for match play as you can decide to cut off the dogleg for a shorter second shot but risk ending up in the gorge underneath the trees) are highlights. I don't know if Farmington is the type of course that will wow you the first time you play but it is a course that you can play over and over again and never get tired of it. It is my favorite course in the Charlottesville area although I have not played Spring Creek in a long time.
