Great layout
Love the elevation changes . Live Midlothian and most courses Richmond are flatter and use more doglegs to create challenge. Here hitting off well elevated tee or fairways run uphill. Greens large and make for an easy target . Nice change of pace. Couple holes working on tee box , one par three is like 80 yards and one standard par 4 they have you teeing up at the 150 yard marker to elevated green so plays like a par three. Hopefully that will change soon so I can try both at regulation. Love the hills in the background. Water very minimum and traps not much of an issue . Really do enjoy the Course and staff very friendly and helpful. Played twice in last couple weeks and will be back soon while leaves changing color..
The Best Value In Charlottesville
Charlottesville is blessed with many fine golf courses with different style, personalities, and exclusivity. What Makes Meadowcreek a worthy selection is its value. For half the cost of other courses, you get about 75% of the quality.
That value starts with the course’s layout, which like other courses in town offer you a variety of characteristics, angles, option, challenges, and rewards. The course is easier to walk than Birdwood, Old Trail, or Spring Creek, though there are a few elevation changes that’ll get your heart rate up. They flipped the nines a few years ago and gave you the option of playing the first hole either as a par 4 or a par 3 (two sets of tees). I liked the old layout but this way you don’t finish your round with a par 3, which a lot of people don’t like.
When it comes to course conditions, Meadowcreek does two things very well: greens and bunkers. They are high quality and well-maintained. Putts roll smoothly and surprisingly quickly and the extra fine sand in the bunkers gives the course a touch of class you wouldn’t expect from the reasonable green fees. The fairways are decent as well, though I found a couple that needed moving quite badly. The rough here is very patchy and clumpy but rarely too thick to hit out of or find a ball in.
The staff is very friendly and the presence of a starter on a muni course like this is sadly not the norm. The practice facilities are good as well with separate chipping and putting greens. With the extension of the first hole the driving range has been narrowed and shifted but for most of the year you get to hit off actual grass, which is a nice compensation (mats-only the rest of this year).
With a any-day twilight (4PM) walking rate of just $10, Meadowcreek is a no-brainer to try out. Even with a cart on the weekend will cost you less than $50, which is dirt cheap for this town.
If you go now, you’ll have the added bonus of seeing some of the best fall foliage in the area!
Good but can be improved
Friendly, relaxed, easy to get in a fast round.
Overall this was a nice layout with challenging holes. Greens were in very good shape. Fairways were not in great shape with green grass patches mixed with yellowed turf throughout. Maybe in a few weeks the grass will green up better. Driving range mats should be based on concrete pads not dirt, in order to provide a smooth and solid base.
