Lake Monticello Golf Course

Always looking to try new courses and wanted to split the difference between Richmond and Charlottesville. Got paired up with a local and one of the club pros. It was like playing with a caddie. So helpful and truly inviting. Nice layout. A few forced layups which I'm never fond of but played them perfectly so made it better. Greens are beat up from the weather and were recently sanded so it was tough to get the speed or is that just my bad putting. Got off right before a league so it was a bit of a slog on a few holes but it allowed us to take our time. The course rule is Golds over 55 so thst was a bonus. Great lunch in the clubhouse. All in all a great day of golf.

The absolute worst greens conditions I've ever seen. Not sure what happened here but they should be forced to warn players how bad the greens are. Putting in the fairway would have been better. Normally a nice course but this is unacceptable. Wouldn't play here again until the issue is resolved.

We love playing Lake Monticello & make the drive from Richmond on a regular basis, but we were shocked to see the greens in such poor condition. I know the excessive heat & unusual rainy July didn’t help things. I hope the grounds crew can get the greens back to their normal fantastic conditions soon.

Lake Monticello is a great course, quiet and generally well maintained. The greens and tee boxes were not in the normal good condition for this round, but still a good experience. When the greens come back to their regular playing condition, the rating will be back up to five stars.

Only played the front but found it to be a fun course with some interesting and challenging holes like No 9. Staff were nice and helpful as we were first timers. Used the driving range for warm up.

We (3) players having VSGA cards were refused VSGA priceing at check-in, not having the booklet.. First time playing this course this year. We all had the VSGA app on our phones. This was not good enough for your representative at the desk. We all have been playing this course for the times allowed. This was very confusing as to every course we play using VSGA all accepted the app. I guess you do not need the money. I personally disagree. You have fairways that in places are totally red dirt hard packed (just in front of the greens) , This is not acceptable. I think you really need to rethink what is important to the players. I personally do not think that at a price of $79.00 a round is justified. I have played much nicer courses at a much better price. Not sure the person name who checked us in, but I assure you we will never play this course again. So in closing, I would never play or refer your establishment to anyone that I know. Even at a reduced price, this course is not acceptable. Not sorry for the bad reviews.Just being honest. (NEVER AGAIN). Will I spend a penny with you guys. In closing ( I know now why you are referred to as the Little NEW YORK).

This is an amazing golf course unfortunately everyone is not welcome so it seems unfortunately I did not get to play 18 holes only seven and that took almost 3 hours. There is no one on the course to keep pay to play up and if you are a single they will not pair you up with someone else and there were a few seniors trying to walk the course and was having a very difficult time really slowing the course down. I tried to pair up, but none of the members or locals was having that. You can read between the line it’s a shame because this is really I think one of the top courses and conditions in this area.

Have played here a few times without issues. This time had a group go in front of us, and when I asked re tee time, one guy said: "we dont have one" they were nice enough and maybe they live there, but we were a 2 some and I feel they should have let us go in front.

Also, a few of the fairways have bare ground on them, large patches of them, next to normal fairway - not sure what happened there

Nice course for the price. The pace of play was slow due to some beginners in front of us

There's short par 4s that leave you with a wedge in. Long par 4s that require a fairway wood. Short par 3s and long 3s. Slopes up and down as well as left and right. Water and trees that make you think and hit the correct spot. It's just a fun friendly place to play.
