Manage your expectations.
Look, for me, as a 5 handicap, I LOVE the layout here. You have quite a unique 27 holes, the white 9 are quintessential Virginia, the red 9 are old school, the blue 9 are a mixed bag but great challenges.
For the uninitiated, this is an army base, not an air force base, so the golf course is not a priority. For those complaining about the greens, the greens have NEVER, EVER, been good in the 12 years I have been here.
So ya play it for the layout, not the greens.
Walking 18 for $20 bucks is hard to beat, folks.
Go. Play.
Never again- don’t waste your time
You’ve been warned… Until they replace the Superintendent that’s allowed this course to become THE worst course within a 100-mile radius of Ft. Lee, playing here is not an option. I can’t find the right descriptor to explain just how bad the greens are, and the pics just don’t do it justice. It’s almost like the grass on the greens were ~ 6” tall and the doused them in gasoline, set them on fire, rolled them out, then finished by spray painting them green! Honestly beyond words. The fact the superintendent is still employed is a reflection on MWR and the post leadership. Seriously. I’ve played 100’s of course, and can say I’ve never experienced greens like this. Obviously, nobody with the ability to enact the change needed will read this, but do yourself a favor and heed my advice and stay away!
Good condition. Friendly staff.
Overall, good day on the course. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good condition. Would recommend, course gets busy around lunchtime. Grill had fast service, good menu, reasonably priced and friendly staff.
This Course is a good value
The course has a few of fun shots to play. The course isn't overly demanding from a length perspective but does require patience and a methodical approach to score well on.
Staff completely rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Web site says call club house and they would walk you through getting through the gate. male answers phone and I ask if he can walk me through the gate pass process says he can not do it .. told to me to call a number it’s busy for a half hour straight and at 3pm it rang and rang and rang and nobody picked up. Tried multiple times till 5 .. web site says open from dusk till dawn.. needles to say our 4 some did not get through the gate to get to golf course. We play once a week all over the state .. will never book a time there again.
All good except bunkers
Course is always in great shape. Some of the bunkers need some sand in them. Other than that?
Start times
Unorganized........shouldn't make 2 players wait for groups of 4
Always a pleasure
It’s still early spring , so us golfers have to take what we can get , weather wise.that is Greens annd fairways are coming along. . The staff are always diligent no matter what their task is.
Me and my partners will continue to play there.
Worth your time
I’ve played here before during the Summer and Fall. The course is always good in every aspect.
It’s still winter. Greens are still a little hard to putt now but I’m sure will improve with warmer weather. Fairways not quite there yet either.
Built in 1948
A Gem in the rough. On Ft Lee property so you must get a gate pass before playing, which keeps the play down a little. The old growth tree on the course are beautiful, they will knock you ball down if you get too close. Greens are receptive to high launched balls, with subtle breaks. We have had a lot of rain the winter and had to play cart path only. Nice driving range and putting greens. And a great kitchen with good food. A nice Pro shop and everyone is friendly.
Same old, same old
Bunkers not tended, greens way to long. It is odd that other courses very close by have the same turf on greens and are able to cut them but cardinal can't due to weather change same applies to the bunkers, just because the weather changes doesn't mean do nothing until spring . The four different grasses/weeds are still growing in the greens and are starting to produce seeds to make it worse.
No visible change
Only reason I play course is for the military community that they forgot the facility is supposed to support. It is a shame they let the conditions of this once amazing course deteriorate to.
Changes needed
The course needs serious attention. Only course that has over grown and no grass fairways at the same time. Crab grass everywhere and getting worse. Slowest greens of any course in a 100 mile radius.
