Dogwood Trace Golf Course

Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg, Virginia was an absolutely wonderful experience! The greens were in excellent shape, beautifully kept, and made the round even more enjoyable. The staff was super friendly, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. I also had the pleasure of playing with a golf course volunteer who was incredibly kind and helpful — they made my first game experience truly unforgettable. I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the course, and I’d happily recommend Dogwood Trace to anyone looking for a great day of golf!

The fairways appear to be suffering from mange. Maybe forgivable given the amount of rain and snow this year. Greens were punched and dressed with some crappy mixture of sand, gravel, and WOOD CHIPS! No joke. Need a broom to putt. They need to either manage the money better or find a new greenskeeper.

Lovely day of golfing at a nice course, just a little busy and slow play.

I left a club on the 1st hole. A specialty club only ordered on line. Came back next day and found someone had turned it in. This speaks to the character of the clientele that play Dogwood..to whoever turned in the club. I salute you sir.

Enjoyed the course very much. Started on 10 since maintenance work was being done on front 9. Chemical application meant cart path only on front. Wasn't that bad for us seniors. Loved the greens! Thx

For early spring, the course is in great shape. Bunkers have received attention and the fairways are pretty green. There are a few wet areas but that is expected from the recent rains.

Playing front nine was a little slow. Playing back nine was painfully slow. There were two groups of four that decided to join together for the last hole. They had no regard for pace of play.

As someone new to the game of golf, I count myself blessed to have found this place.

The staff is tremendous, from pro shop the grounds any and everyone I have interacted with has been welcoming. Highly recommend asking about lessons in the pro shop!

I consider this my home course. There are very obvious improvements over the past year. The staff are always great. Course was in solid shape for early January. Dogwood is the only public course left in our area and gets a lot of play. Unfortunately many of the golfers who come to Dogwood don’t practice basic golf etiquette. Please fix your divots and abide by the cart rules! I highly recommend Dogwood Trace!

The cost did not justify the experience. There was no mention of the changes to hole 2, where they are currently renovating it to transform it from a par 5 to a challenging par 4. Locating golf balls proved to be quite difficult due to the tall rough.

This course needs a full time marshal bad! My wife and I got stuck behind a twosome that played at a glacial pace. We were all on the same tee box twice but no offer to play through or join them. Just foul looks.

Fairways mostly good, greens mostly beat up and unrepaired by public play, sand traps untouched by maintenance staff, so they were compacted by the recent rain. Tee time was 8:32 am, so greens should have been in better shape.

I used to love playing here; it's not a crazy layout, but it's a fun experience with some getable holes. Now it seems like the worst golfers in the world gather around here and make the pace just terrible. I have seen people drive up on the green, I have seen people take 20+ minutes on a hole. Just a lack of etiquette from a lot of people I've seen golf here.
