The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Road
About
Hollows Golf Club is situated in historic Hanover County, birthplace of Patrick Henry. The club boasts 27 holes of championship golf that are considered the best value in the area since the greens fess are good for the whole day, allowing you to try every hole if you wanted to. The holes are divided into three nines: Cottage, Lake, and Road, that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The unique layouts of all three offer enough variety to appeal to players of all skill levels. The Lake/Road combination naturally features plenty of water on the front nine. The Lake nine is routed around a large lake as well as a few small ponds. The back nine, Road, is the longest of the three nines, but only by about 100 yards. There is no water but there are some tricky doglegs and strategically placed bunkers.

Good deal for the money
Not sure the course is worth $40, the normal price. Greens need some work. Course is tight. Holes too close. Had to wait a couple tim es for the group to tee off the next hole before completing our hole.
Great course, super friendly staff
We grabbed the "Hot Deal" for a mid day round on a Tuesday. The staff in the pro shop were very friendly.
We played "Cottage" and "Lakes" both were in great shape. It was my first time playing "Cottage" and we enjoyed it.
I like the golf carts with the GPS, it certainly helped with club selection.
Slow play, squeezed in too many holes
The holes are squeezed together, and you have to wait on players on an adjacent hole before you can hit your shot. No one monitoring the pace of play, which was nearly 2.5 hours for the back nine.
A fun course to play!
The three nine hole courses play around 2900 yards each. Generous fairways in fair shape. The green were advertised as perfect, but something has happened. Cow patty sixed brown spots are in various spots all over the greens (cottage and road courses). It was still fun and I shot my normal boogey golf. Thanks for the peaches!
Great Value
You get a good round of golf at a reasonable price. Green were slow, but consistent , fairways and ruff in average condition.
New favorite in Richmond Area.
3 separate 9 hole courses let you mix and match so things don't get boring. Also, so far these are the best maintained public courses I have found in the area.
DON'T GO
Not worth the money..Course should be in a lot better shape for the value..Don't waste your time, many more choices in the Richmond area for the same price
Fun, solid course
Decent course for practicing different aspects of your game, not a lot of trouble. Decent conditions and a solid staff.
The green were in very , very good condition.
Very brisk pace of play. The greens were in fine condition. Fairways and rough were thick and full which created close to optimum playing conditions.
greens in great condition
with all the rain we've had you would expect golf courses to be in pretty good shape. The greens were in great shape, but some fairways are showing some wear. I am seeing this all of the Richmond area...strange.
Certainly a pleasureable round for $20..
Very good layout of 3 nine-hole tracts.. some charming holes with lovely Virginia countryside views. Greens are lush and reasonably quick for July. Some poa anna creeping in which alters your ball's putted path; but only the most expensive courses have escaped the annual summer infestation of the grass. Still worth the $20 you pay mid-week. Great pub and cold water every 4 holes. Hard to beat the value although a few bare tee boxes need help. Overall, solid B course for the cost.. very quiet too.
Superb Value
The Hollows is a superb value. The three nines are always in good condition and their greens may be some of the most underrated in the area. They are quick, possess subtle breaks and generally role true. Despite the lack of any stunning landscapes, the designers adeptly created a diverse array of holes many possessing conspicuous individuality. My only demurs are the attitude of one of the elderly, part-time shop employees and the frustrating fact that only about one in three GPS systems work in their golf cart fleet.
Love course, all 27 holes!!!
I am a senior with handicap around 12-14 and love the length, difficulty and condition of all 27 holes. Always folks on the course watering greens or doing other maintenance. Love the firmer sand in bunkers producing fair shots. Although I live about an hour away, it is worth the trip to enjoy the course.
Great value for the money
I have played this course for years now and with the exception of the occasional repair, this course is always in great shape. I played the Cottage and Lake 9's with three others. No complaints from anyone. I will be back!
Great time with my boys!
The course is in very good shape, the greens are very consistent, speed of play was appropriate and the staff is wonderful!
nice course
I always enjoy the Hollows. Course is in good shape except for one hole they are redoing.
Great condition Mostly
The course as a whole was in great condition with the exception of the 9th hole on the road course which apparently under repair and would have been nice to know in advance.
Course has a lot of "bang for the buck"!
I have played here before and always enjoy it. I enjoy the course and the carts have GPS in them so they can help you judge distance a little better.
Slow start.
The course was in decent shape. About what you would expect for a greens fee of $35. However, they seem to have issues with starting time management. The course has three nines but it appeared that they were starting everyone off one one nine. The end result was that our group was third in line at our appointed tee time. It took several holes before the log jam worked itself out. After that, the rest of the round was enjoyable.

You've obviously never played a really good course. Check out the Federal Club nearby. It's a 20 star if you consider Hollows 5
