five-somes are allowed to play!
We played on a Friday that was fairly busy for a cloudy wet day from the rain the day before (cart paths only). We were moving along great until we came up on a five-some that was taking their time and not letting anyone play through. The group in front of us finally called the pro shop and the marshall came out to talk with the five-some to let them play through, which they did - and one group only! I cannot believe the marshall allowed them to play as a five-some on a busy day. We were never allowed to play through even though we only had a three-some. Later in the round on an adjacent hole, we saw another five-some that was allowed to play. Count on a slow round since they obviously allow five-somes.
Challenging Greens
Really enjoyed the course. Fairways were good and the greens were fast. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Course was very busy, but things rolled along smoothly.
First Round of Golf Ever
This course was the first round of golf I ever played and I must say it was exciting. I have officially diagnosed myself with the (TWG) bug, that's the Tiger Wood Golf bug. I will continue to play and develop my game at this course.
Very Rude Players and Club House Cafe Staff
My experience today on the course was truly disheartening because I’ve never had any problems on this course and I’ve played there for years. Today I played with a large group and had a nice round up until hole 8, with my group of 4 there was a gentleman making gestures at us to speed up when we really couldn’t help it because of the group in front of us and other groups ahead. He kept making about letting him play through and hitting up on us. We get to hole 10 and the gentleman approaches us in the tee box and makes snide remarks to my associate about hitting up on the people in front of us. He then proceeds to call the club house to complain and ask for a marshall while we are in the tee box. The gentleman left us alone until hole 12 where he’s back at it again laughing and making rude comments my group and I are fed up but we continue playing. His requests to play through have yet to subside. We finish the round with him still making comments as we are on the last hole for our group. After the horrid experience my group and I head back to the club house. When I entered the Club House Cafe there were two ladies in that did not address me but proceeded to ask what I wanted I asked for a cup of ice and a gentleman coming in after me told her that he wanted a soda and she prepared his drink before my cup of ice. I’m pretty sure the ice wouldn’t have taken that long to prepare so I exited the clubhouse without my ice because that was truly unacceptable.
Wonderful surprise
I’m vacationing in the area and this was the third course I played and it costs less than half the other two, it surpassed the others in value, layout, and challenge. The holes varied a lot, had some nice tall trees for shade, challenge and not over bearing. Greens were cut low and very fast. Varied tee boxes for varied skills. I played the blues.
What I enjoyed the most was I had to consider carry distances and club selection. It made me think. There were hazards that came into play at times.
Being a municipal course, some areas needed some care, but they were keeping up on the watering. Staff was friendly and the pro shop was large and the bar area seemed like it would be a nice gathering spot.
I Highly recommend this course. Lots of fun.
Good, not Great
The fairways were nicely maintained, greens were fair, probably about as good as bent grass can be in this area in peak summer conditions. Parts of the course are just odd, several tees are either closed or in terrible condition due to being covered with trees (6, 8, 11, 16, 17, 18 come to mind readily) and a few holes have trees that block the tee shots (6 and 11). The 7th hole is scenic...but has a small green with hazards left and right on a 220 yard hole. It's a 400 yard walk from 17 green to 18 tee. I'd play it again, it's a fair value for the money, but overall, it's pretty "meh."
Golf in Hampton Roads
Course is always fun to play-good lay out-staff is always friendly-pace of play is good-food service is tasty.
Other courses are much better
Don't waste your money. Overall, this place is very poor. There are tons of courses within 15min of this place that are much better. The greens and fairways are bare at best with dirt in the middle of the fairway. No on repairs divots or ball marks. The staff, especially the marshals are pointless and rude. If you decide to play here, even if you can handle the previous things, plan on a 5-6 hour round cause no one allows you to play through and the marshals don't care about pace of play. Spend your hard earned money at much better courses in the area.
Will play it again soon
I play here a couple times a year. The course is in great shape. There was rain the day before and there were 3 holes that were cart path only. The greens were a little long and slow probably becasue of the wet weather. Overall the course is in great shape. The guy that checked us in and the starter were very courtious. Free range balls this time of year is a bonus.
Great course for Tournaments.
Always a friendly, professional place to play. Well kept, good practice areas. Good challenge. BC
