Stumpy Lake Golf Course

About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Patchy
The staff is helpful and courteous. I usually hit the course solo, and get put together with some great people, never had a bad experience in that area. I have noticed that more dirt/sand patches are coming in on the fairways, and definitely the greens. They need more attention.
This one is for the golfers... fix your divots on the green! Its great that you hit GIR, you don't need to leave proof for everyone behind you that you did. When I spend more time fixing divots than putting, don't complain about pace of play.
A hidden gem 10 minutes from home!
I have never played Stumpy Lake because of the high greens fees and the story’s of horrible course conditions.
I played one day after a huge rain storm dumped 2” of water on the course and other then NOT allowing my ball to “roll out” it was a good day! I played with the SAME ball I started with on the first tee the whole round!
The greens were rolling true, but were definitely under repair…in need of some TLC. Most of the bunkers had standing water so we played from the grass most times, but one bunker I did hit out of was like hitting off of concrete. A technique that I have perfected by playing other municipal golf courses in the area!! I would definitely go back on a dry day to compare rounds.
Great course overall
Tee boxes and greens need some work if they were in good shape this would be an almost 5 star review minus tee times being a little too close together.
Everything was great....
Except those greens ...
Other than that, I've got nothing but good things to say
Good layout
I really like the course layout and would play here again. However the greens and tee boxes were not in good shape.
Greens
Looks like they are attempting to work on the greens. Sandy spots on many greens, patch fills show the attempts to make the greens better. Otrher than that... People need to learn to fix their ball marks, and learn to pick up their feet while walking on the greens. Just lazy human beings. Not the fault of the establishment.
Good but bad
The pace of play with terrible. We were supposed to tee off at 9AM didn’t tee off until 9:30. We were paired with a couple who had never step foot on a golf course before today. Some tee boxes were really rough some were good. Greens were okay . The course has a fun layout, fairway not in terrible shape
GOOD COURSE!
Played this course a few times and it is one of my go to. I was alone and they partnered me up with a few solos as well. Overall good bunch of strangers just trying to have a nice Labor Day Monday. I didn't eat the hot dogs but everyone else in my group did and they seem to absolutely love it, so that might be worth a try. If I was to be annoyed by anything, it would be the parking: if you are not there by 9 am be ready to park on the side, over the vegetation, end other awkward spots. I do like it here and will likely come back again soon.
Greens and tee boxes
The greens are in bad condition. They have a lot of fungus tea boxes need a lot.Of course if they would do to work would be a beautiful course needs a lot of work
Could be better
The greens are in horrible condition like a fungus took them over. The fairways were nice. The tree boxes were hard as rock. It was hard to get a tee in the ground at over half the holes.
The sheriff came to us because the group behind us said we were slow. There were clearly three groups in front of us holding us up, but he didn't look into that first. He just started blaming. That's what happens when only put 7 minutes between tee times.
The ham sandwiches in the clubhouse were great!
Maybe worth the money on weekdays or off season
I get that golf is more expensive now but for 50 bucks you would think the tee boxes or greens wouldn't be decent. Ocean view and Bide A Wee are in better shape for less money
Course is overbooking T-times!
Not sure what foursome can get prepared to tee off, hit the ball, and get far enough away so the next group can tee off in under 7 mins!! None ever! They overbook with time slots 7 mins apart, then we suffer at the Tee box, or we are all backed up turning the round into a 5+ hour round. Plus the tee boxes where in disrepair, mostly dirt due to neglect. Same goes for the Greens. If you just want to hit the ball and dont mind waiting, this will do.
