Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Good value - Exceptional greens

Stumpy Lake has worked hard to restore their greens to the high level they were known for years ago. Fairways are below average as you may find yourself with a "natural lie" unless you are in a 10 to 15 yard swath down the center. Their tee boxes appear to be the last thing on their to do list as they are deeply compacted and getting a peg in the ground is a real challenge. Overall it remains one of the best value courses in Tidewater.

Above average for the area.

I've play a few courses in the area and this is one that I've been back too multiple times

It can get crowded but most of the other people there try to let the faster players go threw. It has a few Tee boxes that are very hard and it's a good workout trying to get you tee in the ground. This is a course I will continue to play.

Always a pleasant round

First and most importantly you are greeted by a person with a friendly disposition. That in and of itself can make a round gods or bad when you walk in and if the person behind the counter is a grump (seriously the whole industry needs to get this crap in check) it will likely set your day in a bad direction if you let it. Back to the review the team there from front desk to grounds workers are top notch and don’t everything they can to make golf a pleasurable experience! Kudos to Stumpy Lakes Management for such great hires. Greens are coming in very nice and filling

well. Bunkers were pretty soft and the wildlife is abundant while you play. Never a dull day on SL. Highly recommend it.

This course is in great condition.

Stumpy Lake is a great course for the money. The fairways and greens are in very good condition. All of the holes are lined with trees, and slicers will be in the woods a lot of the time off the tee. But that's their problem, I don't slice. They have multiple tees for all distance golfers. As a 78 year old I played the golds, but next time I will play the green tees. Just a little bit more forward, but still behind the ladies tees. The greenside bunkers have nice soft sand and are well raked. The greens have a nice pace, not too slick or slow. Both the clubhouse manager and the starter were very friendly and helpful. I’m looking forward to coming back to play a round with family or friends.

Fair Price given the condition

The staff is putting a lot of effort into improving the greens and one can notice the difference.

However, it comes at the expense of the fairways. You can hit a ball in the middle of the fairway and be in rough.

It’s a fair value m if you use all the discounts on GolfNow pass. On of the cheapest courses in Va. Beach

My favorite Virginia Beach course

This is my favorite course and my go to for when I’m unsure where to play. Setup and tee time spread is great along with the driving range! Literally the only negative about the course was it was wet from the rain the last couple days.
