Can’t beat it
For 21 dollar to walk 18 you can’t beat it with a wooden stick
As Expected
Fairways were a little longer than normal. Greens were smooth. Pace was good. Exactly what I expected when I went out.
Fair
The fairways are pretty tight, but they're kept in good condition. The greens were also in good condition as well though you could still see the punch holes from aeration. It's an average course for an average price.
Hit’em Straight Or Hit’em A Lot!
I played Sewell’s Point many times years ago when I lived in the area. I was back in town recently and was feeling nostalgic so I thought I’d give it another go.
Not much has changed in the past four years or so. The course is still pretty basic in its layout and kept in good condition. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is very flat with very little to make you think before you swing. There are few water hazards, no real forced carries, certainly no blind shots from the tee or fairway. There are bunkers but they are generally off to the side and aren’t difficult to get out of if you hit a wayward approach shot.
Speaking of wayward shots, the only real challenge to this course is teeing off. If you can’t hit it straight, you might be in for a long day. Nearly every fairway is lined with trees and some of them are pretty narrow. I lost count of how many times I was punching out from under them or looking for my ball that had gotten caught up in them. If you hit into them nearer the tee box, it can be very penalizing as getting to an approachable distance to the hole can take more than one extra swing.
That aside, this is a pretty easy course, the price is pretty fair. They had JUST sanded the greens when I arrived but other than getting sand everywhere it wasn’t a big issue.
The staff is pretty friendly and off-course amenities are standard, nothing fancy here. If you’re in town and just want to play some golf, this isn’t a bad course to do so. Just bring a straight tee shot or some extra patience!
Nice Course....not Resort quality...but nice
Sewells Point is a military course. It's pretty well maintained but if you are expecting Augusta National greens and fairways...you will be disappointed. It's a pretty "vanilla" course. Little water, little sand but if you can't hit it straight? You will find it a challenge. An excellent course to walk as there are few to no hills! I would recommend that you give it a try if you are in the area!
