About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Golfer Reviews
The greens are terrific
South Riding is in very good condition. Greens are the best I’ve played this year: immaculate, and fast with subtle slopes. Make sure you check your putt from all sides or not only will you miss putts, but the speed will cause your ball to drift away from the hole for a long next putt. Layout is great - large variety of holes. Only negative was cart rule was cart path only. Didn’t see the need. Singles were paired up even though there were plenty of carts lined up. Not a busy day. That made pace slow as a self inflicted problem.
NEED BINOCULARS OR A RANGE FINDER TO FIND THE SIGNS
Unbelievable tiny signs identifying the holes. The absolute worst signage i have ever seen. No directional markers either to show where hole 1 is.
All good except pace of play
This being a Saturday weekend was slow. There should be an active Starter managing the tee times as the groups go to the first tee. At least space out the group much better or efficiently.
A little worse every time…
I’ve played at South Riding dozens of times and it gets a little less fun everytime. Course could benefit greatly from a Marshall riding around to enforce pace of play and course etiquette. Multiple groups driving right up on the green on 18, lots of screaming and disregard for any sort of etiquette. Fun course when it’s maintained and has a good pace. Today, was not one of those days.
Truth
South Riding needs a lot of course maintenance, basic signage, # hole signs with layout, and lots of T-box work.
The 4 of 5 star ratings on Golf Now are not truthful about South Riding’s true condition.
Not worth the money
Tee areas are terrible. Fairways were pretty good, but too many burned out patches and wet tracks. Greens good. Pace of play was slow. Starter was no where to be found, no signs pointing to the first hole. We roamed around looking for it. The layout is actually pretty fun, but the course needs work. At least 20% overpriced.
Poor conditions
First time playing the course. The course conditions were very poor resultant in an extremely slow pace of play. While I'm aware that the area has received a lot of rain recentlys-- the tire marks, overgrown grass, and poor tee boxes are clearly an ongoing issue as unacceptable considering the price to play.
Great staff, rude patrons
The course was certainly overbooked and scores of groups were queued right behind each other. Impatient and rude patrons would attempt to play through only to discover there was no room ahead and just .made the wait worse
Great layout, iffy conditions
Greens rolled well, but fairways were very patchy. Also, the rough around the greens seemed like it hadn't been mowed in a month - very tough to find balls.
Still an Amazing Course
Apparently, it had been raining for a few days, so many golfers were lined up to go out for a round. This, and the observance for cart-path only created a slow pace and backup.
Personally, didn't mind it and understood why we were where we were. Great course still
