South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Nice day but windy
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Greens were great, very fast. Overall, no real complaints,
Nice Round on a Nice Course
South Riding doesn't get the recognition it deserves - it's a challenging but fair layout on a course that's usually in great condition. Plenty of interesting holes and plenty of challenge, with tee boxes going back beyond 7,000 yards. A really good value on a fine course.
Fun basic course
Course is very solid and fun. Weeds were a bit out of control and greens were ok. Still one of my favs in the area. Long straight drives pay off big on the par 5’s
Very Firm Greens
Course was in very good condition. Fairways were nice and even the bunkers had good sand and were well cared for. The biggest challenge was the greens. They were really firm so it made holding shots very hard. Plus the wind was blowing so anything downwind was almost guaranteed to bounce and go over the green. The greens were very fast as well so putting from above the hole was hard. Hopefully as the year goes on and they go through their first aeration, they will soften a little. Overall, I like the course and it will stay in the rotation.
Glad to be back
The course was in great shape. Traps were very well maintained and playable. Few courses now do anything with the traps, I was very pleased. Rates have gotten so high that I can't play here very often. I will be keeping my eye out for another deal, can't wait to get back.
Wait
Waited no less than 15 minutes at each tee box took 4.5 hours to finish as a single because of how slow the pace was
The course, as usual, was in great condition. Fairways and greens did not have any leaves despite the fall season. Cart paths do need repair. My GPS was not working and I found it very frustrating because the course did have any 100 and 150 yards markers, neither were there any sprinkler heads with distances! The tees also did not have any distances marked which is very critical on Par 3 holes because the tee locations keep changing for maintenance.
Beautiful Course
I hadn’t played South Riding in a couple of years due to travel distance. I was surprised at how well maintained it is. Beautiful greens, fairways, tees and bunkers. I’d also forgot what a great layout it is. As a single, I was paired with three other singles. We all had our own carts; much appreciated in these Covid-19 times. Overall great experience. I might have to suck up the northern VA traffic issues and add South Riding to my ‘best courses to play’ list. Kudos to the maintenance staff.
A Very Nice Course and A Good Value
I played their sister course (Pleasant Valley) a couple of years ago and was similarly impressed. South Riding is not a difficult walk, although I saw only a few other folks walking on a splendid, sunny, warm early-November Tuesday. The course is moderately difficult, but fair. The conditions across the board were very good. All of us in my group agreed that the day's pin placement was quite devilish! Despite the fact that I played poorly, I couldn't be more pleased with the course and the reasonable price.
Slow play.
It would be beneficial if players were encouraged to go to their own balls and be ready to play, not take multiple selfies, limit the time spent searching for errant shots, bring multiple clubs to their ball to minimize walks back to their cart and to play ready golf.
Taking selfie’s while on the green when the group behind is ready to play was especially rude.
