Course Highlights
South Riding's varied and challenging layout stands out in Northern Virginia, with notably strong greens that consistently impress compared to nearby courses. Friendly staff and a smooth pace of play make for a well-run round on a course that remains a hidden gem in the region.

South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Bad all around.

I played a mid day round on a Thursday. Pace of play was great because of the day and time. The course was awful. Cart path rough, fairways over run by crab grass to the point where a great drive is wasted by an approach shot that grabs your club. The greens were marked up terribly. Super disappointed with the course conditions. The staff was super friendly. The entire place was run but some young kids. But they were trained properly to be respectful and accommodating so props to them.

Nice Course, insane rough...

Like the course, Greens run average speed and are in great late season condition. Good layout and mostly well maintained. Biggest problem is the rough. I don’t know what is done on purpose or not, but the cut is all over the place. Can’t tell which way it’s laying, it’s thick, and very uneven. Truly the toughest rough I have ever played in, and I’m not sure it’s meant to be...

Very poor conditions for price

$65 for sloppy fairways, beat up tee boxes, mowers driving in middle of fairway during play at 11am. Feels like they squeeze as many groups as possible to play so get ready to wait. The rough is extremely deep and grass clippings everywhere. Wouldn’t mind if I payed $30 to play here but $65 is crazy. Pleasant valley is right down the street, play there instead

Course needs some TLC

- Tee boxes are in bad shape, as in there is no grass what so ever on at least 5 of the tee boxes

- Couple of the fairways appear to have had a 18 wheeler drive through the course, tire tracks EVERYWHERE

- Green rolled OK but were hairy

- Worst of all......the rough was ridiculously long, and I mean LONG, this is NOT the US Open.....its as if the course super was lazy and didn't bother cutting the rough, it was at least 6-8 inches long

Above Average Experience

Course conditions were below average with tee boxes not manicured and rally patchy, fairways with different lengths of grass mixed with barren spots, and severe ground under repair spots. Bunkers were in great shape and greens were in average condition. Rough was extremely long - felt like US Open rough. Not sure why they haven’t mowed recently but rough was penal. Several times it took 5 minutes to find a ball, occasionally not finding it at all.

Pace of play was excellent with no waiting on a tee box despite a full morning tee sheet. Starter was friendly and to the point with instructions. Layout is nice, although felt like there were quite a few short par-4s (300-375 yds from blue tees). Overall, the round was good, just wish the course was in better condition.

Course condition

The course is in great condition, but they jammed too many in and the pace of play was terrible.

Good Course To Play

The course has begun to show the effects of the summer weather conditions. Several dead or bare spots on the tee boxes and fairways. Course was wet in areas and cart rule was cart path only.

Fun layout, decent conditions, great price

So. Riding is in decent shape this year. A few tee boxes are under repair, the greens are fast, and the rough is tall. It forces golfers to know their iron distances, and pick where they want to miss. A good course for golfers of all levels.

The rough was not cut and thus if you hit your ball into it there was a high probability of not finding your ball and the tee boxes were in horrific shape Absolutely not worth the money we paid
