Course Highlights
South Riding's varied and challenging layout stands out in Northern Virginia, with notably strong greens that consistently impress compared to nearby courses. Friendly staff and a smooth pace of play make for a well-run round on a course that remains a hidden gem in the region.

South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Course needs some TLC

- Tee boxes are in bad shape, as in there is no grass what so ever on at least 5 of the tee boxes

- Couple of the fairways appear to have had a 18 wheeler drive through the course, tire tracks EVERYWHERE

- Green rolled OK but were hairy

- Worst of all......the rough was ridiculously long, and I mean LONG, this is NOT the US Open.....its as if the course super was lazy and didn't bother cutting the rough, it was at least 6-8 inches long

Above Average Experience

Course conditions were below average with tee boxes not manicured and rally patchy, fairways with different lengths of grass mixed with barren spots, and severe ground under repair spots. Bunkers were in great shape and greens were in average condition. Rough was extremely long - felt like US Open rough. Not sure why they haven’t mowed recently but rough was penal. Several times it took 5 minutes to find a ball, occasionally not finding it at all.

Pace of play was excellent with no waiting on a tee box despite a full morning tee sheet. Starter was friendly and to the point with instructions. Layout is nice, although felt like there were quite a few short par-4s (300-375 yds from blue tees). Overall, the round was good, just wish the course was in better condition.

Course condition

The course is in great condition, but they jammed too many in and the pace of play was terrible.

Good Course To Play

The course has begun to show the effects of the summer weather conditions. Several dead or bare spots on the tee boxes and fairways. Course was wet in areas and cart rule was cart path only.

Fun layout, decent conditions, great price

So. Riding is in decent shape this year. A few tee boxes are under repair, the greens are fast, and the rough is tall. It forces golfers to know their iron distances, and pick where they want to miss. A good course for golfers of all levels.

The rough was not cut and thus if you hit your ball into it there was a high probability of not finding your ball and the tee boxes were in horrific shape Absolutely not worth the money we paid

Course needs attention

The course needs attention...especially the rough. Hit decent drives that should have been able to be found because not far from the fairway and the ball could not be found. Found others by shear luck after much searching. Shouldn’t have to search that hard 2-3 feet off the Fairway.

Rough

I love this course. But the conditions right now are rough. Every single tee box is destroyed. All either burnt out or not well maintained. The fairways are also in bad condition. Greens are decent. Bunkers great condition. Overall right now it’s not worth the 90$ ish for the round.

Avoid at all costs

I am literally writing this review while on the course. How do I have time to do that? Because I'm currently on pace for a 6 hour round. Waiting 10 minutes on every tee box with no course marshall to be found anywhere.

The atrocious pace of play aside, the course is in awful shape. Tee boxes are just dirt ground with no grass, fairways are dirt, and greens have weeds growing through them.

I paid $65 to play here and that was about $60 more than it's worth with these conditions.

DO NOT PLAY HERE

Oof

Tee boxes were almost entirely dirt. Rough was far too long and filled weeds/crabgrass. Pace of play was terrible especially for a weekday
