Not what I Expected
Fauquire Springs may be a private country club but that doesn’t make it better. At check in I told the attendant that I had a 1:40 tee time paid on line. He told me the 1:00 tee time on Golf Now was the $43 on line rate and told me I had to pay him $50. I showed him the email on my phone, and he argued. Another golfer came in and supported me. He paid on line for my tee time as well. After a couple minutes of ranting, the attendant acquiesced and gave us a cart key. The course was in average condition with EXTREMELY slow greens. The rough was very inconsistent, with various types of grass and weeds. Balls in the rough gave very different lies - ball sits down, sits low with an inch of cushion underneath or sits up with 2 inches of fluffy rough below. My golf partner was a very low handicap golfer. He agreed that the rough was extremely inconsistent. My view - Fauquire Springs reminded me of Montclair GC on steroids or the closed General’s Ridge without the fun!
Obviously Not Wanted There
It was evident from the moment we checked in that we were not welcome. Either because we were NOT members or because we paid a reduced rate through Tee-Off. We drove 60 miles but arrived at 12;00 for a 1PM tee time. Were told we could NOT go off early (understandably). Exact words "No 1 O'clock". After sitting by #1 for 30 minutes with nobody teeing off. I decided to get a beer and enjoy the rest of the wait. Once inside the pro-shop I was asked "Now What". Enjoyed the course layout, elevation changes and pace of play. I made it a point to return to the pro-shop and thank them. I would not recommend.
Great course
Very interesting, picturesque and enjoyable mountain-type layout. Many elevated greens to keep your short game sharp. Greens not pristine, but they ran fairly true. One of the members complained that he couldn’t bring a guest for as little as we paid, and that was certainly true. The $43 Hot Deal was an absolute steal. And did I mention that we played in 4 hours flat? Would definitely play this course again.
Great conditions
Course is in great condition and even better considering the lack of rain we have had recently. Great course and friendly staff. Course is private club, which makes it a great deal for the money considering you can’t usually play without a member present.
Good course
Course was in pretty nice shape, and there was no waiting. You can leave your driver in the bag on all but about 4 holes if desired. Nice layout, not too challenging but just enough.
Great Hidden Gem Course
Enjoyed the friendly staff, course layout and associated challenges. Will definitely return with golfing mates to play again in the fall or spring.
Favorite Course in the area
I wrote this after seeing some guy's review from a week or so prior. This course has some of the friendliest people working for it anywhere, the course itself is in great shape, a round anytime out there is well less than 4 hours, it is very cheap to play there and the food in the clubhouse is better than what you get at most restaurants... Postage stamp green with slope on them make this a great course to go to if you decide you want to play today and get a quick round in. Try that anywhere else in Gainesville, Haymarket or Centreville and you will likely spend more time waiting to hit a shot than to drive out and have a round where you feel like you own the course. You will also spend far less here. Please fix your ball marks and put sand in your divots, this is a Private Course...
Don’t hit in the rough and you will have nothing to complain about.
If you are going to complain about the place at least spell the name of it right!
