From the practice green you can see parts of over half the holes on the front nine. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/15/2017
Moved surprisingly well
Previous visits (other than the last 2), pace of play was slow. The last visit we moved quickly.
A couple of spots under repair, but nothing to harm your game.
Traps aren’t consistent.
A variety of tee placements, if never played there check with starter and the posted placards.
Beautiful Day Beautiful Course
The course was perfectly maintained. Reviews about rude staff had me worried, but the pro shop person, starter, bartender, and cart girl couldn’t have been nicer. The only complaint I have is that we had to play from an alternate tee box for one hole because the sprinklers were on and no one was there to turn them off.
Mediocre Weekend Golf
For the price, the course conditions are subpar and neither bottle of sand was full in the cart.
Golf
Course not in the greatest shape. Tee boxes were beat up. Fairways were quite awful and a lot of dead spots or even marshed/wet spots.
Their greens? phenomenal. fun - all greens were firm, not too many hits held on the green. Greens were fast. Coupled with the wind, this course is tough considering there aren’t that many trees. The bunkers were garbage.
Pace of play - ishhh - Played a round at Herb-Cent yesterday, same groupings, was 5-5.5hrs. Played in 4hrs20mins - okay-ish.
I stress pace of play, 4hrs or less / no marshaling. A lot of lax golfers anymore and lax club rules as long as the tee times are coming in. Sick and tired of hearing music on the golf course as your course allows it. The group in front of us was blaring it.
Please, return golf to the gentlemen’s game.
Played better-in-shape golf course in PA for the same price, or 1/4 price less.
Fair course, good conditions, well-kept
Tough round given that with so much rain the week prior, it was tough to drain. Pace of play was excellent (as a threesome we finished in 4:10 and that was mainly because of my horrible display of chipping). Some areas of the grounds under repair but enjoyed the round and look forward to returning!
This course has great greens
Bristow’s greens are the best; firm smooth fast and true! Fairways are very good too. I’m not a fan of their dirt vs sand bunkers. Very inconsistent. Some were somewhat soft, others rock hard. Staff was very friendly, and they had a starter!!! I didn’t have to go out to the range and/or practice green yelling someone’s name to find my playing partner for the day. Please keep the starter; like most decent courses do. Layout is somewhat mundane with the back and forth over the little creek on the front nine. I, and I suspect most players enjoy the back 9 more. Still a nice course for a reasonable price.
Love this course
The course is in great condition but unforgiving. Much more difficult than it appears.
Good course, but not optimal for females
This course has no on course restrooms. So while the men simply step behind trees women have no real options.
Glad I Came Back
I have not played this course in 20 years. Should not have waited this long. Really fun layout. Greens were in great shape. Fast but fun.
Afternoon golfers beware !
If you play in the afternoons, be aware that a full hour before sunset the management team goes hole to hole commanding golfers to bring in the carts 45 minutes before sunset or last light. I know of no golf course that does this. Asking golfers to bring in the carts a full 45 minutes before sunset ensures that afternoon Golfers will never be able to finish 18 holes. If you’re planning to play a late afternoon round, you’re better off going to another course that allows you to play until at least sunset. The summer months is when we look forward to playing 18 holes in the afternoons. Bristow‘s policy on this is very arbitrary and unfair. Combined with the fact that they have no pace of play monitoring, afternoon players are often stuck behind extremely slow carts ahead of them with little hope of finishing the round, even if they starte. a little after 3 PM. very unfortunate. Owners and upper management of Bristow Manor need to address this situation before they lose a lot of clients.
Decent Course, Weird Layout
Bristow Manor is a decent golf course with an interesting layout. The course conditions were average, as many fairways were patchy and the greens had just recently been aerated (which they did not tell us).
My main issue with this course was the layout. Every par 5 on the course has a creek/waste area that sits between 230-350 yards from the tee basically forcing you to hit a hybrid or something to stay short. I wouldn't have minded if it were only 1-2 holes but it was all 4 par 5s. There were also a few par 4s that were gimmicky which added to that sentiment. It felt like they wanted there to be risk/reward on a lot of holes but then never gave you a chance to actually risk anything.
On a good note, the staff was very nice, but unfortunately I did not see the dog everyone was talking about. The practice facilities were pretty good and the restaurant was a great place to watch the end of the third round of The Masters!
Disappointed
I was very disappointed with this golf course.
I made a reservation through GolfNow and arrived a bit early. Since there were several open tee times ahead of us, I asked if we could start earlier. However, the staff rigidly told us to wait until our scheduled time, showing no flexibility. I have never experienced this at any other golf course.
Additionally, when I went into the pro shop to check in, a large black dog kept in the office ran toward me. I was so frightened that I had to run away. For people who are afraid of dogs, this can be a truly terrible experience.
I do not want to come back to this golf course again.
Bristow Manor review
Staff very friendly, price I paid was reasonable for the area, it seemed about $25 less than usual.
Pace of play was much better than the last few times I’ve played there, it there was a backup on the back 9 which took about 3 holes to clear up.
